Being a CNA during nursing school allowed me to skip inpatient care all together and go straight to outpatient, been here for 10+ years.

As a CNA it’s definitely challenging especially when the nurses don’t respect you or what you do but if push through it is great patient experience and you learn a lot about what nurses do and their scope of practice .

Being a PCT has gave me so much patient experience before nursing school I’m so glad I made the decision! It’s better to know what you’re getting yourself into! Especially working with such great nurses that love teaching and mentoring me!

Volunteer, volunteer, volunteer! At hospitals shelters etc. It gives you experience you will need if you're not able to work due to school.

Not going to lie I'm very happy I wasn't a cna or pct. My class thought they knew it all and have very bad habits to break. 2 of them failed because of it.

I’m a new subscriber 🙂 I want to become a CNA before applying to nursing school. However, I’m already a sophomore in college and I just can’t afford to pay for the CNA classes as well. I did get to shadow 2 nurse practitioners and 2 medical assistants for 7 weeks. Honestly I loved the experience. I think shadowing a nurse is good before applying as well, especially if you can’t become a CNA/PCT

Congrats to reaching 20k..I was a HIGH SCHOOL ENGLISH TEACHER before I became a nurse..I was taking nursing classes at NIGHT..Teaching from 8-330pm and then nursing school 5pm-9pm 4 days a week..I did better in my class than those that were CNAS and LPNs..I think most of them had the mentality of thinking since they were already in the field, they knew more about Nursing than some of us that was working in a different Career field.

diamond baithey I went into nursing because I had a seizure from sinus infection which caused encephalitis on my brain..by the time my roommate got me to the car and flagged down police, I had 7 seizures..I was declared a "vegetable" by the ER DOCTORS because my brain had loss over 70% of its oxygen..Well I was in a coma for 6 months and Through GOD GRACE, I WOKE UP..fast forward..I heard everything that went on the entire time I was in coma but I couldn't respond..My nurse I remember from that hospitalization treated me so nice even tho I couldn't respond, she would always come talk and read to me..After my hospitalization, I had rehab for 5 months to learn how to write, walk and talk again..That whole situation made me go into NURSING because of the TREATMENT I got as a patient from nurse BEVERLY..HER entire BEING made me want to make a difference in someone else's LIFE...THAT'S my story

It like you make all the videos that I need to see. Honestly I became a CNA/PCT before starting LPN school and it honestly discourage me and made me believe I would not be a good nurse because CNA work is so hard and draining. I’m still trying to figure out if I’m in the right field . Don’t get me wrong I love helping others and seeing other smile and I know a LPN and RN job description is different from a CNA job description but I’m still trying to see if I’m the right fit .

I’m in the same boat as you I’ve barely been a CNA for 6 months and i came to the conclusion that it’s not going to be for me you are right it’s very hard and draining and I work nights so it takes a big toll on me many people say transfer to day shift and the pay for day shift is not worth it for all that hard work I’m still trying to figure out if I want to stay in the medical field or look for other career options

I know many nurses who were not CNAs before nursing school. I know this because I lived on the medical campus of a tier 1 research university. The other thing being a CNA & an RN are two totally different jobs. I believe just because you don’t like being a CNA doesn’t mean you won’t like being a nurse. It depends on what you want to do.

Great video Mercy. I’ve been so MIA. Congrats on 20k. I work as a CNA now in long term care and I have mixed feelings about it. I don’t love it but I don’t hate it. I know I want to be a nurse for sure but sometimes that CNA job has me contemplating my whole life. I love helping people and comforting people but at times I don’t know. Anyway I just snagged a job as a PCA in a hospital which I’m happy to see what that entails and the experience I will gain.

I work in a hospital too any difference between long term care and hospital ? Are you more inclined to become CNA now ? Or still feel the same ? I’m also stuck on what to do.. don’t hate it but don’t love it lol

I’m a CCMA currently. Plan on going to nursing school. In Kentucky I believe they require you to have your CNA for a year first.

I was thinking about doing the CNA program first. It is less expensive and then I can still get a taste of what it is like to be a nurse and work in the medical field in a certain sense. Then I could always go back to school, but work as a CNA while in school for an LPN or RN .

I start nursing school in a few weeks. About a month and a half ago, I applied to be a PCT so I could go ahead and start getting patient care experience. Unfortunately they called too late, about a week after I started a different job. Not gonna lie, I'm a bit bummed about it. A PCT I happened to talk to yesterday suggested quitting my new job and taking the PCT position 😂

Thank you so much for this video, came in at the right time. I was studying to be a nurse in college but when I got pregnant for my first child I had to put school on hold. Its been almost 7yrs now and planning to do something nursing related. I dont have the time for college right now because of the kids, but wanted something quick that could still give me some experience as well. A friend told me cna, then your video came up too, thanks alot.

Wow😧we have same lifestory.. I choose to do PCT for 7 years now, I put nursing school on hold because I got pregnant & married the year I start college, now I’m start looking for fast track nursing school, I can’t go to college who require 8hrs classes. my kids holding me lil bit because I want to give them all my attention as mother💓

Vivian E..aww, Yes try to get your CNA license first, It’s worth it. I am glad i choose to be a CNA at first. Now I’m working in hospital as PCT, i see what I can do if I go back to nursing school again. All my Caring, amazing NURSES I work with my UNIT pushing me to go back to school. They really motivate me. I am grateful for those support from them..

Mercy Gono BSN, RN she is an actress, comedian, and singer. She actually just released and album called Moods of Cancer, and I love it! You should check out a song on there called Vacation, it’s a hit. But you can always just look her up on google or Instagram to see what she looks like, and hear some of her comedy. I’m a CNA now in a hospital and like some of the other comments said I don’t love it but I also don’t hate it. I do my job well and my patients love the care I give I just don’t know if I want to be RN. My charge nurse tells me I should because it’s basically the same thing I just pass out meds I keep the same schedule and I get paid more .. she wants me to do it and I’m considering it but I wonder .. is it my passion? Not really lol idk I’m stuck

Medical assistants don't work with patients as much as a cna... more administrative and back office duties. CNA is the way to go for beginners
