@@NatureSkyViews that was what i thought too until i realized putting 500 pound rectangle at the end of the bed would not be a good idea. but i've heard they intended on stacking a smaller pack underneath the driver seats which could make it possible to put whatever is left in the sub trunk. if so we'd be getting 470 miles in the cheaper dual motor instead without losing 1/3 of the bed space. win win

@@nathanbanks2354 Aluminium still oxidizes and can be especially reactive when contact with other conductive materials is made. It's why the likes of aluminium wheels still suffer with corrosion. More significantly aluminium is dramatically more suspectable to fatigue failure. Aluminium is also much harder to repair. All in it's why aluminium chassis vehicles like the VX220 have a relatively short service life. If looked after a well made steel chassis will likely dramatically outlast a alloy equivalent.

i remember a sentence from Elon 1 or 2 yr ago about cyberT, reaching 500 plus miles was and isn't a problem, but you have to stick 1 battery pack over the other like hummer, so in that way you can have approx 260kwh of power and near 500 miles of range, but now you have a 4tons of truck, heavy as fuck, slow and with less tow capacity, twice the time to charge it up, for what? a 15 min stop for a extra charging stop? not worth it! When you consider the potential to interface with a Powerwall and add 11kW of power and 120kWh of storage to your home backup by tapping into the Cybertruck pack the real value proposition is pretty amazing. 340 miles of range in a 6k+lb SS bodied truck for $80K is damn good, and it will be even less with incentives.

The towing specs did decline. The range specs are close for the rear wheel and all wheel models, but the tri-motor CyberBeast is much lower than original estimated. The prices have increased a bit more than inflation alone too. Inflation has been around 19.56% since the initial unveiling. That said, we’ve had a lot of feature leaks over the past few years. I guess people thought those would all come for free… The original truck unveiling did not have any of these features/specs: • Steer by wire • Rear wheel steering • PowerShare - bidirectional charging • 48V LV Architecture • 800V HV Architecture • Ability to charge at 350kW w/ V4 Superchargers • Rear 9.4” Screen Not sure if those additions can make up for some people feeling a little disappointed. Yeah the range extender is an interesting idea, I realize you are not an engineer but you have to look at battery size not just range. You said 4680s are supposed to be the best right?? They kinda are, if has one of the smallest batteries in an electric truck and has similar range to most. The Silverado has over 200kwh I think around 212, the cybertruck with range extender is at 170, and gets more range. I wish they would have covered this in the event to prevent this kinda of reaction. I am also confused why they dont just put the 50kwh more batteries in the cyberbeast to start. Its the flagship!

Honestly, I get the range extender thing. If they loaded up the truck to get 500+ miles, you are looking at a Hummer EV situation. Too heavy and inefficient. What I don't like, is the design of the extender. It should be a separate truck model from the start, or the 'pack' should not be lump in the back of the bed. But rather a 'sled' that just increases the load height of the bed by one set of cells. It's almost like they are forcing you to choose, have a functional bed, or have towing/range capability.

I think it will come down to reliability as I think this is essentially a lifestyle truck that will be used to show off and maybe the occasional trip to the dump or Home Depot like most trucks are probably used for. Influencers will put it through all sorts of tests in the end it will just need to meet its EPA range as well as any EV does and not have lots of mechanical issues. There’s also the unknown in terms of how well the design will work out in the real world. It’s not the vehicle for me for lots of reasons but to each their own.

Though probably a bigger negative is how unheeding such a big and heavy vehicle would be on UK roads. For example it's significantly bigger than a standard UK parking space. Bigger issue still is going to be getting it past UK safety regulations is the US ones fail on multiple issues. You would also have to deal with insane deprecation. It would certainty never be a particle vehicle. More something you buy because you want rather than any sensible racialization.

I’m very happy you brought up the 10% degradation in the first few years. This is the reality no one talks about. 500 mile range is basically 8 hours of straight driving with no stops. You could argue 6 hours and that’s still a long time. I have a Model 3 with 280 miles of range (after 5 years) and we road trip a bunch. Supercharging is not a bad deal. We have the opportunity to go to the bathroom every 3-4 hours. A 320 mile range is low, but it’s a “beast” of a truck. They have to add a range extender battery in the bed because there’s likely no room elsewhere. The hype is high. If you have a reservation to get an early model, get it. If not, wait it out. Well, start hearing much more about it in the next 6 months. I’m guessing many will complain about range, but how many people drive over 100 miles daily? Not many. The other concern is towing. My opinion is any EV truck is not worthy of towing. Not enough range for that. And in America, how many truck owners actually have a hitch ball and tow?

The Cybertruck specs are in line with the rest of the industry. I think Tesla was smart not to put a giant battery in the truck. Chevy and RAM are going to have such a tough time making those 200+kwh batteries. My issue with the Cybertruck is that it does not make for a good work truck. Mostly because of its overall design/ shape. Which I absolutely love but it’s a super truck not a work truck. If I was in the market for a truck I would get a Lightning to do real work, a Cybertruck if I just wanted the looks and a bed, or a Rivian if I needed to get work done occasionally.

AWD version specs are actually much better aside from price. Average vehicle price has increased $12k in 4 years. With the $7,500 discount that brings the AWD version down to $63,500 only $1500 off the original listing price when adjusted for inflation.

the range is definitely the killer for me, 1. you would lose range in about a year; 2. charging up to 80% is better for the battery longevity; 3. What is the point of having a unremovable range extender that takes up 1/3 of the bed size.

Imagine your towing let's say a trailer going camping your running out of batteries after about 80-100 miles because your towing something heavy then your running out of power because your battery is dying there's a truck traveling with you now he has to tow your trailer until you get to a charging station then you get there and there's a long line of ev's waiting to charge too while the truck your traveling with had to sit there and wait until your charged. You hook back your trailer and then this happens at least twice because your traveling around 300 miles. Then you finally get to your destination unhook your trailer and the truck traveling with you is playing off-road you want play too but you struggle to go up a simple hill while the truck your with is long gone up that hill then you finally make it up and now you see a muddy patch while the other truck has drove through it already and then you think you can drive through the muddy patch too and try to go through it but get stuck and dig in so deep and your soo heavy that no one can pull you out the other truck laughing at you and all you can do is cry and say " well at least I'm faster than you!!" while it's doing donuts around you

The price should not have gone up $30,000. Battery costs are down, Tesla does not have union problems. They never had the chip problem that other manufactures had. 800 V is supposed to save money. No paint is supposed to save money.

I think that Range extender is too expensive, It should be like 10 grand max. I think with Time the price of the truck will probably drop like 10 grand and they will improve the battery density so the Dual motor might get at least 400 miles of range and like 550 with the range extender. Overall I feel that its an awesome Truck, just the safety of it and toughness and the Gigantic frame and air suspension. I like it.

If and when they improve the battery chemistry, I feel like they would rather make the battery pack smaller, thus lowering weight and increasing efficiency while decreasing the cost, rather than increasing range a substantial amount.

As somebody that has grown up with trucks being used as intended carrying cargo in the bed, that range extender is very disappointing. You go from having a 6 foot bed to 4ft, can't even safely transport 12 ft boards. Whereas with the midgate on the Silverado EV you can safely transport 16 ft no problem. With all these manufacturers making EV trucks it'll be healthy competition, I feel like in a couple of years we'll have a good selection of EV Trucks.

I think it is a similar example to a smart phone. It's not that they can't increase battery capacity, it's that they increase it slowly and force people who need it to buy additional parts. it's not that there is a lack of technology, but that there are still not enough people who can afford this car.

Hey :) I have been reading a lot about the truck, and most of my thoughts are yes get one! There are of course some things that are a no! But I especially like the mid range one, I think 0-60 in under 3 seconds is too fast for a truck haha! But all in all I say go for it. If you like it and can see yourself utilizing it, I’m sure you will though with the new house:)

If batteries improve by a lot, Tesla will probably just shrink the battery pack to improve efficiency and lower the cost, believing the range is good enough for the vast majority of customers. And they’ll continue to improve the supercharging network so hopefully it won’t matter much anymore.

Not a fan of the shape of the Cybertruck however, I am excited to see more innovation and tech push EVs forward. Hagerty already have a full review of the Cybertruck up and cinematography is epic (as is for all the videos in their Icons series). Personally, I'm more of a fan of where Lucid is going with their EVs with hyper focus on efficiency. As Efficiency is key in reducing B.O.M costs thus reducing the amount of materials, rare earth metals etc are used for manufacturing EVs. Higher charge to charge times means less charging and less wear + tear on the charging infrastructure and internal equipment inside the cars.

Then only range miss was the Tri motor. The RWD is 250 miles like they claimed at original launch and the AWD is actually better at 340 miles vs the 300 they said at launch. The 0-60 are quicker on the AWD and Tri than originally stated.

they should've instead of using just a normal shutter for the truck bed they should've made it out of 8kw solar panels (as an option) so help maximise the range to at least over 500 miles. if NIO makes a truck I'm afraid it could outsell the Cybertruck as NIO has already designed a car with over 1000KMs of range (580 miles range).

YES... The specs are terrible! I have two reservations for the Cyber Truck and I'm on the fence as to whether or not I'm buying the trucks. The reason I'm on the fence is complicated, but the loss in range and increase in price are the two largest factors that are causing me to second guess if I should buy the Cyber. My current truck is a Chevy Silverado 2500 HD Duramax with a custom built 52gl fuel tank that gives my roughly 550 miles of range while towing, and the current version of the Cyber won't have anything close to this... I cannot imagine needing to pull over to charge the Cyber Truck every 200 to 250 miles. Additionally having to pay roughly $120,000 for less truck than the original $70,000 was supposed to get me is a tough pill to swallow! Let me explain... I reserved the Tri-Motor and was expecting 500 miles of range, but now we are looking at $100K plus the range extender and I still don't get to 500. I only use my truck for towing, and/or picking up supplies, so spending more than $120,000.00, for less truck than was premised at 70K? Unfortunately I don't think there will be a C.T. in my future.

If the range extender can double as a power wall while it sits in your garage waiting for the next big road trip. That would be better option than a 500mile battery in the truck. Just need to install a 1ton crane in garage to lift it.. 😂😂😂

I think that if you do a numbers comparison - it's disappointing. But when you watch the reviews, see the ACTUAL performance, think about all the advancements and innovations that are unique to the truck, it's even more apparent as to why it took so long. The range being less than 400 is a bummer - NGL - but they're not selling this to the outlier crowd. They'll have more customers almost never going beyond the range of a single charge than they will those who roadtrip. That's just facts.. Heavy/expensive batteries being lugged around for no reason 99% of the time is a bad idea - look at the Hummer EV. I'm keeping my trimotor preorder.

I appreciate your comment. you are right on some of the advancements and innovations. super cool! Towing and camping with the sub-400 mile range will be tough, would have been a game changer for sure in the EV Truck space. But if they are building this car for the G-Wagon type crowd that never leave asphault roades and don't do roadtrips, it is a great vehicle.

I honestly don’t know what the deal is with this obsession about more range, especially with the amazing supercharging network, never had issues with long trips driving the model Y, stopping for 10 minutes at a super charger to top off another 100 miles never seemed to be an issue for me. For me the dealbreaker would be the price not the range.

Range while towing, or carrying a heavy load in a truck bed are an issue here. Roadtrips though, saving 30 mins at chargers is a big deal with more range.

I think your impressions was a little off. Sadly I think with the current battery tech, Tesla probably had to balance the price verses the range. Increase range means increased price and weight. If they were shooting for the federal tax credit then it had to come in under 80,000 for most of the trucks sold. The range extender to me is a little bit of a cop out. But I guess whatever works. But I think with the new tech in this truck, Tesla’s next and updated vehicles could easily go over the 500 mile range mark.

I agree on the specs being below expectation. To have a new battery pack that is supposed to be better than all the rest and a try motor variant that was supposed to have 500+ miles of range which now is showing only 320 is very disappointing. at least make it 420 or something this way the extender would put it over 500. I do think, however, there is a chance that range will increase with software updates, and with the new battery pack being supposedly better than all of the rest, there might be less battery degradation, then previous vehicles, and there might be software updates that will increase the range over time, but I definitely think you need to lead off a little better than 300 and something that's worse than the model three which is a fraction of the cost. I do, however, think that Elon does have something obviously as usual so we might see better range sooner than later. All things considered, and with the price being astronomically higher than originally announced. Still plan on keeping my reservation.
