This guy clearly has no idea how amazon operates. But I get it, he has his own uke store he's trying to sell. If you're interested in a uke and a beginner, or even a professional, there is absolutely nothing wrong with buying from amazon. This man just said you can't buy real instruments on amazon... good luck with your store lol

And if the Sold By is the actual manufacturer/maker than it is them screwing you over, Not Amazon. Unless of course there was an inventory mix-up on Amazons part, that would be a different story. Don't forget Amazon has one of the BEST and easiest return/refund processes for any reason pretty much within a month. For Prime or Shipped by Amazon products.

Knocking Amazon doesn't help your business. Music stores like yours all over the US sell on Amazon. Mom and Pop and larger retail. It's a marketplace. Nothing wrong buying ukes made overseas. Yes Amazon sell a lot of their own products. Not everyone can buy expensive US made ukes and your own store carry models made overseas. Someone who buys a cheap instrument for the first time may step up and look for more premium items that you offer. As a seller it would benefit you to have a presence on Amazon as it helps with online exposure and Amazon customers prefer benefits and security buying from the site. I dont know what the fees are for resellers which would be a factor but many cases, all the music gear I've bought from Amazon has been from actual music stores. And that can get me to buy more merchandise directly from the retailer.

I have two from Amazon. I bought the Enya Nova U when I was first trying out the idea of taking up playing along with a Luna Mo’o. Both have been fun instruments and I have enjoyed playing them and have gotten more serious with courses since I’ve joined the ULTP family. Now because of Terry’s many reviews, courses and tutorials I have also found a uke that I am patiently waiting for! Without my getting that first Uke from Amazon I don’t believe I would have found ULTP. So, buying from there is not the worst idea.

Can’t entirely agree. I have bought 2 and was very satisfied. You can get good ukes and deals if - IF! - you know what you’re looking for and know what brands are good quality. Nothing is better than your local Uke music store of course. And I can always go there for strap buttons, etc. I have bought at Amazon and locally, with good results. I would dissuade any newcomer from just rolling the dice on Amazon, however.

I got a Kala and a Lanikai from Amazon and I think I was lucky because I had no problems, I got my Enya directly from them and it was broken and they sent another one. I got an Ohana Sopranissimo from Ukerepublic with a strap button I had requested. After experiencing both, Ukulele shops and Amazon, I prefer the ukulele shops. I like the personal touch and the reassurance that I can talk to somebody if I have any issue. I think that especially for new players Amazon is the easiest choice because we don t know much. Later on, we discover strap buttons, Low G, different strings, the set up...and eventually, we never buy from Amazon again. Thank you for this video Terry!!! When are you setting up a store in Kenya? :-) we have none.

Sorry, but I found your reasons to be more self-serving than compelling. I started with a $60 Aklot tenor two years ago and I still love it. I watched KZfaq videos and learned how to lower the action and even add a tuner/pickup. If I didn't want to try it myself I could still take it to a local music store for a reasonable fee. I think it's very reasonable to watch KZfaq reviews and buy it on Amazon.

Not a clear cut yes/no. My first Uke (kala soprano) was from Amazon (typical starter kit). My second (Kala Spruce top Concert) I got straight from Kala because I was spending a few dollars. I wanted to try Baritone, so, I turned again to Amazon for a Kala Makala, due to cost. I wouldn't be out lots of money if I decided Baritone wasn't for me. I do agree, avoid the no name brands. So, beginner and or budget, sure. If you are spending real money? No.

I bought my ukulele from Amazon. It’s made by Lohanu and it plays beautifully. There were over 530+ reviews, most were positive. The only ones that were had small issues that were corrected by the seller. They sent an email before I even received it to ensure I contacted them directly if I had any issue at all. This guy really just wants to make the sale himself, I can’t blame him but to say you can’t get a solid instrument from Amazon is a false statement.

Having said all of this below. You DO have to do all your own research on what you want, before you randomly buy something from Amazon. 1) Amazon is a platform that allows smaller companies that specialise in items, like ukuleles, to reach more customers than they could if they relied solely on their website. Amazon does not sell most of their products directly anymore, so these ukes are bought directly from music stores. 2) Music stores that sell on amazon don't only sell crap. They also sell high qualify stuff, like Kala, Enya and Cordoba, also available in your own store. 3) Returns on amazon products can be very good, it depends on the store from which you bought the item. Do your research on which stores are reliable. 4) Some stores will definitely allow modifications and special requests. This goes back to 1. There are very good stores that sell very good products on Amazon. Including ukuleles. 5) See 2. There are high end brands on Amazon. There are even stores ran by the very people who produce the ukes, like Kala and Enya. But I repeat, you have to know what you're buying, otherwise you can end up with a piece of crap. I have absolutely no doubt that your store is amazing, though? Amazin', amazon? Haha, nice pun, right?

If you want us to support small businesses just say that. I’ve purchased 4 different ukuleles from Amazon as well as strings and they all did what they were supposed to do. I’ve also returned a ukulele before and didn’t have to pay any fees Amazon has made returning products super easy you don’t even have to have original packaging. They sell literally everything you need especially for someone just starting out. I wouldn’t recommend buying a high end ukulele if your a beginner.

I gotcha and I agree Amazon is easy. Amazon also takes a large % from venders, around 30% and more. Plus when you return something from Amazon, it’s easier for the customer, but they pass on those expenses to the venders. Although expense ukes cost more they will play and sound better than inexpensive beginner ukes.

And even more great guidance all over KZfaq. Furthermore, when I called the store to ask questions before I ordered my ukelele, Terry himself answered the phone! I'm impressed with the customer service, and I'll go to Terry's store for all things ukelele.🍍

I have not had any problems with Amazon shipping or instrument quality. I bought my very first from there, but I I only wanted it to check out, if I enjoy learning an instrument at all and If I manage to pick up the very basics. The little ukulele was enough to make me want a better ukulele, which is not available on Amazon, not even in any brick and mortar instrument chain-stores. Through a lot of searching I found a business that sells very reasonably priced ukuleles, hand made by a luthier, from wood (no laminate involved) and not glued together by the thousands in a factory. They are not custom-built, the concepts are set, but because they are being hand made from natural wood, each one is unique. Is it expensive? That depends on how you look at it. I have paid £220 for a concert size (you can choose between satin and gloss finish, price stays the same) and I know I will have it for many years, if nothing goes wrong with it will outlive me. So in the long-term I have already saved money, because I would cost me a lot more than 220 to buy substandard ones from Amazon or have the more expensive ones that can be bought there, sorted out by somebody, which also costs money. A bad or substandard instrument, puts a newbie off learning it and probably for life. So don't feed the dragon :-)

I have played guitar for almost 60 years, and a friend recently gave me an inexpensive Kala baritone uke that he bought from Amazon. For the price, it's fine and it's fun to play. If I stick with it, I likely will buy a somewhat nicer uke. I like your videos.. but I did buy my uke on Amazon. For a few reasons. 1). Learning uke was my COVID project. I needed to buy online, as I wasn't going anywhere. 2) I saw the recommendation of a simple Alcott package on another channel as a good choice if you were an absolute beginner. Saves a big investment for someone who hasn't had a clue, and wasn't sure if you were buying a really damaged spendy model. 3) Couldn't have forced myself to walk into a stringed instrument store at that point, as I'm an incredibly shy person and was super insecure about the project anyway. That said I like it, people who do know about stringed instruments and ukes kind of liked mine. If I get any good at it, I might go a different route.

Its a love thing. Obviously as other subscibers have noted people have good experiences with Amazon, but do you really want to support a company that treat their own employees like dirt despite huge profits? Now needs must. I am not rich and have bought my two used Chinese ukes sourced locally from Ebay at reasonable prices. I am still saving slowly, however, to buy ukuleles made by unionised labour. Having spent years in Asia I can say wholeheatedly that the conditions people work under there are diabolical. I think that these two factors should be be considered by any player. Like I said it's a love thing.

I think you could have just said support your local music shop because most of these were some weak arguments. If you get good and want a real professional quality ukulele, then go get one after you've learned.

I bought my Snail S60C on Amazon for $475. Also charging people $700 for an electric tenor ukulele that I can buy from another website for$300 is probably the reason you had to make this video. Sorry to be such a critic as I would prefer to give you my business. But at the same time I’m not going to pay $400 more for an item just because your in the USA

It's not impossible to get something decent on Amazon and obviously, just like people who inherit a ukulele, you can go to a decent music store near you to get a set-up, strap button, etc. Of course you're not going to buy a $1500+ ukulele there - but that doesn't mean you can't get something way cheaper that is decent.

I can't agree, and this feels a little patronizing. I got an amazon uke for christmas from my sister, the Horse one. I wanted to start and see if I took to it, and I have done very well with it and will be going to my nearest professional shop for my birthday. I earned it. The Horse uke I got is a great little beginner set, many positive professional reviews are here on you tube. Amazon is just an online shop. You could sell on there if you wanted a bigger market, provide a better quality product to that market space. You'd sell more. If you can't beat them, join them.

1st question is he just wants u to buy a uke from his web he mentioned a car what do u mean like they have car Carriers. 2nd question he was laughing about the discription but the seller put that down there not Amazon. 3rd yeah I can get on his back for that but they give u a tuner and you can just ask for another. and question 4 my uke from Amazon has strap buttons. 5th question it doesn’t madder about the brand how does that supposed to madder. Don’t listen to this guy go buy your self a uke from Amazon but just read the discription.

I bought a very nice starter uke on Amazon... an Enya Nova U. I still play it a lot and take it travelling. I don’t think buying ukes from Amazon is a bad thing if you’re looking to get a decent starter uke.

The Kala Waterman Soprano at $40 caught my eye, and hilariously, it offers the option of being sold with humidifier despite ABS construction. That's without shipping, though. It does say a lot that the lowest price bracket is "Under $200". I'd assume since the ukulele is seen as a "toy" instrument only to be strummed lazily, it's hard for "designer" items to be sold as compared to shiny pipes and fiddles.

Oh, it's not a real opinion video, it's to advertise his brand. Gotcha. See if I knew that at the beginning I wouldn't have thought you were full of it the whole time. Because: 1) amazon is a distributor, not a store. 2) the stores that Amazon ships for have the same opportunity to check for imperfections before the product leaves their store as any other company. 3) there are Chinese brands for everything, that doesn't make them bad options. 4) Your point about lack of customization on amazon is a non-point as Amazon isn't a store its a distributor for stores. In saying that, there are ABSOLUTELY stores that do customization on Amazon for all types of products! I bought a personalized glass statue for my mom last year from Amazon and it came out exactly how I wanted. However if I'm on amazon looking at instruments I'm not looking to get something custom. I wouldn't expect that from Sweetwater or Guitar center either. If I want a custom instrument that's when I talk to the person or company that makes it. Not the distributor. 4) you contradicted yourself when you said "there are no high end brands" by saying "there might be a couple here and there". Make up your mind, people already clicked on the video, you don't need to bait them again. Your store looks great! I would love to buy an instrument from you but lack of honesty about competition and unnecessary pride doesn't look good when other big successful instrument brands like gibson, fender and yamaha sell instruments on amazon too.

Yeah, cool story! You're utterly wrong, but cool story. My first uke was a plastic korala from Bax, they pull it off the shelf and send it, they don't check. Thomann does exactly the same. Both music companies sell Flight ukes (and no one else in my region). Amazon would spend exactly the same amount of attention to it. What causes the huge B-stocks is this "iT sHoUlD pLaY oUt oF tHe bOx!" nonsense. You don't drive a car straight from the factory, it requires setup, same goes for instruments, regardless of the price. Is it a fact our local music stores are disappearing? Yeah, it's horrible and we should support our local shops. My local shop is a custom shop and can't deliver what I want, so they get it after I receive it, to set up and maintain. They supply strings, amps and many other things, including advice and good laughs. After you spend an odd 350 on a uke, you might as well spend the extra 30 to have it done up (including new strings). If you have any issues, they'll customise it, if you have that type of cash. Frets hurting you? Don't like the pick up? Want a cleaner sound? They'll fix it. The chop shop knows what they're doing and they're friendly, but their work comes at a price, eventhough they often have quite well priced (standard) products. Your experience depends on your wallet size. Whining about amazon is not a good look. Instead of talking trash about the competition, you should focus on why you're a good choice. Checking a box before sending isn't a skill, though. You could charge extra to have it set up by a luthier before sending it, but I would still prefer to get it as is and see the difference the (local) luthier made. A luthier is worth his weight in gold (even the fat ones), but regular shops will unfortunately disappear, as we're more and more buying directly from the company (sometimes through amazon). The main reason I don't buy from amazon has more to do with amazon working conditions than the actual product, which is the same as you would buy elsewhere, as often they don't even come from amazon itself.

Incredulity and insinuation don't make for a good argument. Facts are critical. When it's time for a "real" instrument, the consumer usually seeks out reputable shops. In the meantime, entry-level instruments can serve as a low cost start. There are some ukuleles that are adequate for the entry-level experience. Not all of those online instruments are bad. The insinuation is that if a ukulele is offered on "Amazon", the instrument is of poor quality. This insinuates that brands such as Kala must be pushing poor quality productions- I highly doubt that, though. We should also consider that the sellers are not highly fluent English speakers, hence the awkward descriptions and grammar. Basically, do the research about the origin of the ukulele. Some sellers actually have an instrument factory you can tour online. Of course, the Amazon reviews can be read with either good faith or serious doubt. In other words, do your research before buying.
