In this episode I am going to discuss a range of creative careers and suggest a couple of key questions you can ask yourself.
I propose these questions because the answers will give you a good indication if Graphic Design is something you should consider or maybe you’re more suited to another creative discipline.
Enjoy

Although I do agree being able to draw/sketch is an efficient way to being a great designer, I personally believe that if you have a good understanding of the tools on adobe illustrator than you are more than capable of creating good illustrations without using pen and paper. I have found that many people who excel at drawing tangibly have had issues with understanding illustrator and how to use it properly and vice versa. Great video none the less :)

Hi Bro/Sister, glad you ask. I quited after trying for 3 months. The reason is that I found I fall into the trap that If you want to get seen by others, you have to keep producing many design every day and keep up the trends. I become stressed by working every day on it. I lost all the fun when I bega. Only my first design was sold and I earned 4 dollars. that is it. Not bad, right? @@priyachaudhary9914

I really love all the pros and cons i am definitely ok with all of the cons, pressure, working with others and such what I am afraid is that if I get instructions from a co worker or a senior that wants to SABOTAGE me in purpose then thats a problem and I hope it doesn't happen to me since there's a lot of competition, I kinda would like have a video of beware of coworker signs that may try to sabotage you and such, I know sounds weird but it does happen, anyways thank you so much you are so kind and knowledgeable

Hey man, thanks for sharing this information :) I want to progress in graphic designing as well, and its definitely not the easiest job out there.. I still wonder If I spend my time correctly by starting a youtube channel, while I could've spend time in improving my artwork or business skills instead.. and I understand that you could do all three of them.. but it "really" takes a toll on you man..

I need a bit if advice... From where I live and my limited skills, drawing is the only thing that I'm most decent at and graphic design seem like my only option for me since other art careers force me to leave home and I lack the confidence. After watching various videos ive become more and more interested, but after reolising there is a lot of verbal communication which is one of my weakest skills I feel that I'm at a dead end. Have you any advice or videos you could take me to perhaps to improve communication skills or even avoid? I would really appreciate the help. Thank you

This is a bit scary because everywhere I see and listen in this video is "its hard" and "challenging" so one not pursue it ? I have practiced graphic design on canva little bit to get handy easily. and it wasn't that tough as it sound in this video. how come one will know that he can work under pressure, and is creative or not, if he has just started.
@GarethDavidStudio
@GarethDavidStudio 2 жыл бұрын
First of all, forget Canva. That's a DIY tool for small business's or marketers who cant afford to hire proper Graphic Designers, or wont pay for one. Canva generally leads to ubiquitous design, it's goal it to make it easy, so tries to make all the decisions for you, with its templates and limited creative features. It tends to serve up solutions without making you think for yourself. Your career in design is a journey, you have to build, explore, make mistakes and grow. You will never know at the start if you're 'creative' or if you can 'work under pressure'. Most designers overcome this because of their determination and love for design. It is challenging and it is hard, but it's so rewarding and fulfilling. If it's not hard, it's not worth doing. Take your time, enjoy the process, enjoy your journey. Stay away from programs and products that try and do it for you, aim to think for yourself and come up with your own ideas and you will grow into the designer you want to be,.

@@GarethDavidStudio I've been practicing with Canva (free version) for now as I can't afford any of the Adobe ones. I don't use the templates (they feel like 'cheating'), and choose my own font/color/shapes/etc to fit each design. I would say that I am thinking for myself quite well.

It’s not a deal breaker. You could make a career for yourself without the skill in drawing, I’m sure many do, but from my experience it really does help in the design process. It helps to plan your ideas and articulate them visually before working them up on computer. You will find you make many decisions fast, especially visually through drawing. I find I cover a lot of ground quickly and rule out ideas I may have had I feel may not work. For example, I’m a freelance designer, I sometimes have only a few days to come up with ideas for brands, layouts or creative campaigns. I typically spend roughly between 3-9+ hours thinking and planning, drawing and sketching before even getting onto the computer (depending on how complex the brief). That way, when I have a solid idea (or range of) I can then work up my ideas up on computer instead of time consuming trial and error on computer to start with. I find my ideas are stronger and I cover a lot more ground quicker. It is important to keep in mind. ‘Rough layouts sell ideas better than polished ones’. Sketches and scamps can be discussion points, that you can refer to and chat to fellow designers, clients and creative directors. The vagueness of them, can be interpreted in various ways, which can encourage creative thoughts in other directions. In my experience it’s a key skill to have.
