She said you should start with cs50 Python, and then move directly to week 6 of cs50 which is the week they explain python, then follow the next weeks to learn html, css, javascript, sql and flask. She doesn't say anything about the prior weeks of python in cs50. As a non programmer, I just started cs50 and completed 2 weeks of the course and I can say that it explains a lot of things about how computer works and programming languages and I find it to be a strong point 0 start for everyone who doesn't really understand how programming works. I am interested to learn python for my goals (automation testing), but I find following the cs50 course first really explanatory for some gaps that might appear along my learning/coding journey. I hope I can finish it since it's my 2nd attempt at following the course, but I sure believe this is the best route to understanding programming and then going nieche to a specific language/s of interest.

When you are learning how to code, Python help you focused on how the logic of programming works. C, on the other hand, has a difficult syntax that might be confusing

No actually, in CS50X, the programming fundamentals are taught through C, when you take CS50P, those fundamentals are taught through python so you don’t need to learn C. But C is a great start in my opinion if you want to know a little more about what is going on behind the hood of all the comfortable things python has to offer. So basically when you take CS50P, you can skip learning C, but C gives a better understanding of the programming world than python. If you do CS50X and CS50P after that, you would understand what I am talking about. But if you want to just get your job done, python is well established to do so.

I did CS50x up to week 6 exercises and realised it would probably help to know more about Python before completing this module. So, put the main CS50 on pause, did the CS50P course and then picked up CS50x again.

How and where? I would like to get a certificate at the end of the course, but for me that is available only if I pay the fee of 219$ for the verified certificate. For the cs50 python certificate the fee is 249$.

I'm currently following this module advice and structuring it as follows: CS50 After Week 5, Begin CS50PYTHON. Complete CS50PYTHON, Pick up on week 6 of CS50. I assume the only "downside" would be the repetition of some foundation learning, but in my book it could only help to go over key concepts and review.

It has nothing to do with your intelligence. What you're experiencing is psychological, just get past the resistance phase. It's part of the experience.

Use chatgpt for very theoretical questions and you can use a very non technical language it will understand.

Django is much more complex so unless you have a specific use case requiring Django you should start with Flask

@@NickRoeder They did also say they had a lot of prior experience. I do to, and I reviewed CS50 and was able to get through it in about 2 weeks though (I could play it as 1.5 speed).

Both are free, you only have to pay that much if you want the accreditation, but it's optional.

(cs50x) Only "tideman" was super challenging actually. With python it starts super easy. Of course it depends for everyone but just wanted to share it.

It starts with c language and then it goes to python, JavaScript, SQL and more

CS50 covers some basic Web dev but CS50 is an introduction to *Computer Science* and how computation works. Its a great foundation because even if you only want to use Web Dev, understanding underlying science and engineering of Computation will make that far easier and make you a much better developer.

Learning C really put me off that course

c should always be the first language tho, i started with python and i coded so much with it but when i took cs50 and started learning c, i found that there were alot of mistakes i have been doing and learning c taught me a whole new perspective. I feel like c as a language is really good for beginners as learning c means you are able to learn any language almost instantly. you should listen to cs50 podcast on why they chose c.

C is the first language that you learn on any university. Its Computer Science class, not programmimg bootcamp. By the way, the CS50 first tool was Scratch to get students into thinking like a programmer in the first place.

Free. You can pay for a certificate tho. But you don't have to pay for a certificate. I know it sounds wierd but it is what it is.
