Khabib was my favorite fighter of his generation, but he was a weight bully and retired early. Not only his resume is too weak, for all-time great status he definitely had to prove himself at 170. If Jon Jones got Sergei Pavloviched within a minute of fighting Tom Aspinall, I would STILL, as an Aspinall fan, say Jones is among if not the greatest. No one could fight all the people he fought, and never lost until then. That's why the legacy talk bugs me. If he loses, in relative old age and extended mileage as a fighter, to a mutant like Tom, that takes NOTHING from him. If he beats him, it will mount glory atop glory for him.

I don't think being undefeated makes anyone the best. There's many variables involved. In fact, losing builds character, and if you can come back after a loss and win a championship again. That proves to me that someone's internal fortitude is greater than someone who's never lost. Cheal Sonnen is a pretty damn good fighter. In fact, he's got the biggest balls out of any of these fighters. Who takes on Fedor? When you weigh 185 pounds? Uncle Chael is a beast. I have mad respect for Uncle Chael even if he's neurotic. 🤷

Even though jones has better stats then GSP I’d still have to give GSP the GOAT status. Unlike jones he never tested hot during his MMA/UFC career. Also never did any party drugs or had any unsanctioned altercations outside the octagon that ended up involving law enforcement. GSP also never trashed talked and avenged his “L’s” in style. Just behaved and acted like a true mix martial artist. I just believe one’s mentality and lifestyle in and outside of the cage matter in goat conversations. That’s part of the reason Jiri is one of my favorite new fighters. But no hate if you have jones as the “goat” and are just a numbers guy I understand both have done exceptional things in MMA.

Beating a legend doesnt make you a legend you can only become a legend by beatiing his accomplishements. Jon has nothing more to prove there will always be a new guy on the block who we think can beat him, first it was Gane then when he failed we started clinging our hopes on tom if he crushes tom we will find someone else. At some point Jon has to retire and at this point its whenever he wants.

Jon has the greatest legacy ever. Legacy and GOAT status are essentially the same. Khabib is an example of how people misunderstand the term GOAT. He may be the best fighter of all time but he’s not the greatest. Greatness includes legacy, and his legacy is one of fighting mostly marginal UFC fighters until he fought Conor, Dustin and Justin. Thats so much different than Jon Jones’s laundry list of all time killers, including Uncle Chael. Legacy isn’t about skill as much as it is about history. Khabib’s history excludes him from GOAT status, despite perhaps being so much better than his contemporaries.

IDK. It feels to me that part of being a top athlete is knowing when to leave. Staying around until you rack up a bunch of losses at the end of your career definitely hurts your legacy. Occasionally we forgive it, for instance we pretend like MJ never played for the Wizards or we try to remember how he was the best player on that team in his 40s even though the team wasn't that good, but more often than not we tend to forget. Ferguson is a good example. He went from the longest win streak to the longest loss streak with every fan begging him to retire so they can only remember when he was on top but couldn't get the title fight to go through.

If you are over the age of 35, and this applies particularly to boxing, you are past your prime, and your record in fights after 35 should not affect your overall legacy. For example, Roy Jones Jr., is easily one of the greatest boxers of all time. Before his 35th birthday, he was 49-1, and the one loss was DQ. After age 35, he was a pedestrian 17-9. It's hilarious how as soon as someone loses they go from being a great fighter to a fighter who is totally devoid of skill and talent in the eyes of fans haha. People forget that if you argue that a certain fighter is trash, then you also essentially are saying that everyone who lost to that fighter is also trash because how could they possibly lose to someone so unskilled and untalented.

Its hard for anyone to compare to jbj, been at the top for so long, never been dominated for a whole fight, never even been nearly knocked out that i can remember, hes pretty special by any measure in such a dirty business, in answer to your question, if he lost his next fight i wouldnt take it back, imo.

If Jones looses his next or never fights again I still have him P4P No. 1. That status is based on what he did pre heavyweight, he was already the GOAT.

I like Khabib but can some explain to me. When speaking about Goats it comes down to title defenses Like rings in NBA & NFL. Khabib has 3 defense in 3 years. Jones, Anderson, GSP, Izzy, Volk and other have more defense. 29-0 when the first 22 fights are vs absolute no body’s.

Many pepole was talking about Jon Jones would lose at HW. becuse Ciryl Gane is so good, even Ciryl was in chock how fast he lose to Jon Jones and he is the current HW champion. The are great figters like Aldo,Spider Silva, GSP, Mcgreor. The list goes on. Diffrent era diffrent Champs. The best part is if the kids has more legends to look up to then they have diffrent role models.

If we are to accept that Henry Cejudo is the Greatest Combat Sports Athlete Of All Time, Gold medal in the Olympics and the Youngest American to win gold at Olympics (at the time) as well as a 2 Division UFC Champion, then surely that would make Henry the Greatest Of All Time also, or, are we saying that there's a distinction between the two.

GSP beat one eyed Bisping, but Chael beat two eyed Bisping, think about it. Goat discussion is very close between Khabib and Jones to me, Khabibs dominance was ridicilous but Jones had a ridicilous amount of title defences. So maybe a loss could change my mind but not entirely sure, Jones was very dominant much of the time aswell.

Everyones different. Couture won the belt at 45, but some people fall off in their early 30s. Jon is fine though, dominated Gane after not fighting for years. When he trains and doesn't screw around during the fight he's still the same, but fighters are getting better. His issue is getting older combined with hardly ever fighting. I mean he didn't fight in 3 years and before that he had over a year between his last few fights too. It's amazing he can do that. That alone makes him the GOAT. Fighting hardly ever could catch up with him though, and guys are better than they were early in Jons MMA career, mma is an evolving sport. Most guys can't do that and keep winning at all like Jon has been able to do.

The fact he does coke and party the week before and still wins the fight makes him even better. Imagine how good he'd be if he lived a life like khabib. Jones must only be tapping into 70-80% of his potential with how he goes about things so he's just so much better than everyone else and it shows
