I definitely think there should be a separate series of tournaments where they aren't used. It is interesting to see people fishing off a boat like they would an ice hut. That being said I would love to try one, I think you can learn a lot about behavior etc

Loved your video. Although I have no problem with consumers using it I do not think Livescope should be used in tournaments period. Reason-Because it levels the playing field for offshore fishing plus it eliminates the “fishing” part of the equation so one can focus 100% on “catching”. Locating fish offshore can be extremely difficult. Livescope will enable some to compensate for the lack of experience. Where do you draw the line. What technology is next? Do we not want to see the best bass fisherman win tournaments.

I use it as a learning tool mostly, it helped me realize as well that some areas I was fishing and swore there had to be little to no fish actually held decent fish. That taught me I'm simply not presenting the right baits or using the right techniques. I was also a bit disappointed in the horizontal mode, I was thinking it would be a bit nicer for shallows to truly learn the area but I've found it to not be all that helpful. A lot of the time I can't tell a fish from a clump of weeds on a grass edge and often I catch fish I never even saw on the screen.

Good show. I use a LS in my videos and fish for crappie. It's a tool that can help find fish and learn fish behavior. It's not for everyone and that's ok. I have my transducer on a pole and not on the trolling motor. While using spot lock you can still look around for fish. This is a plus while fishing a windy day or current. That Matt. One of the most honest videos on livescope! I'm not a bass angler, just put livescope plus on my hobie pa14 for trolling lake Michigan salmon and trout. Great tool to know exactly how deep my lures are. Can actually be very frustrating watching how many fish react but don't commit! For the people that want it banned for everyone, like Randy that you mentioned... I'd like to see them give up autopilot trolling motors, seams like a bigger advantage to me

I've fished with Matt several times using Live scope and I can tell you it is truly an advantage. Matt has never been a better fisherman, he knows how to use this tool to his advantage. It allows you to find fish and structure out away from your boat that with traditional finders you'd never see before. Just look at all the big fish he's caught since he started using it. It's progress and a new arsenal in your toolbox. We cannot stop progress, therefore people should be able to use it in tournaments. I know it's not traditional fishing, but nothing about fishing is traditional about bass fishing any longer, since I caught my first bass 52 years ago. Matt, keep up the good work and I'm proud of what you're doing for the fishing community...see you at my place soon for some fishing and a few tournaments.

Its as you said, people who dont own any FFS think its the end all. Its just a good reference tool. Time of day, weather fronts and lure choice still determines it all. What determines it the most is casting/fishing time and presentation. The more you cast/fish the more likely you are able to catch something. I believe a lot of people who own a FFS like myself after owning it for some time no longer bother to video game fish and just default to what worked for us before while using FFS to gain more info.

Matt. Love your channel. Yes, it should be allowed. It’s just another tool in the toolbox for an angler. I picked up a livescope last winter and have used it all year. It has its place but it doesn’t guarantee you will catch fish. It sure helps locate bait and fish but it doesn’t make them bite. I understand not everyone can afford one but you still need some fishing skills to catch them. Technology keeps changing and you do not have to keep up with the latest and greatest. I still use my Humminbird 899 and 999 on the bow and dash for 2d and mapping. It has taken me many years to save up and buy my setup. Fish with what you have and enjoy your time in the water.

My casual fisherman opinion. Does livescope help ? Yes or it would be a non topic. That being said it is just another tool available to everyone who can afford or at least has decent credit to go get one. Same would apply to everything else where there is a “pay for results” argument. The best boat, tackle and location you live are also factors. Some people would only be happy with a league where no boat can cost more than $35k, no custom baits and no rod/reels over $100.

@@bassmatters1012 Such a stupid response. Of course anyone in America can have it that's not the question, the question is should it be allowed in tournaments. Well it's America everyone can buy one...but they can't use it in a tournament! Why can't baseball players use an aluminum bat in MLB? Well everyone can buy one if they work for it. You're right on one thing, Boats do put some at a disadvantage and that's why they have different circuits for Jon Boats like SB fishes all the time where bass boats aren't allowed. I go fishing to relax, enjoy my weekend off, catch a few fish and have fun with friends. I've never used a livescope. I've seen a lot of it here on youtube. From what I've seen I find it a bit confusing to interpret the screen. I've seen it be used in vertical ice fishing and there it seems to be of great help. There is also a debate in the P.M.T.T. muskie tournament trail about the use of livescope. I can tell you that I remember back in the 1970's, I was a kid, that the Minnesota State Legislature introduced a bill to outlaw the use of the Lowrance Little Green Box flasher depthfinder, as it was then, like livescope now, considered to be an unfair advantage for the angler and could destroy fish populations. The bill failed to pass, of course. I still have a Little Green Box flasher tucked away in the cupboard.

Any tool in competitions is fair game as long as anybody has access to the same; so, no experimental unavailable-for-masses technology should be used unless the competition rules allow for that (anything goes). I also believe there could be competitions with different rules, e.g., no electronics, no livescope or underwater cameras, and no teleporting :-). I'm though curious about how you are using the two bow screens when you are in fishing mode. Nobody is explaining in terms of use cases... For example, when you look at the livescope screen, how are you using the second one? I'm doing a tiny boat build, and I'm getting a livescope unit, but I am not convinced that I need a second screen on the bow...

So I went threw and read some other comments so I myself could have a good opinion on the subject and not just what I know cause I don’t know shit about LS. So I agree it is just another tool in the arsenal. I mean that is my excuse when I buy a new rod and reel for every new/different lure. (I.e. slobberknocker)!!!! Because yes it may show you that the fish are there but you have to be able to get them to bite. I have watched tournaments where they sight fish and don’t catch the fish and the spend quite some time on the fish and nothing. However in my opinion I believe that since these companies are making all the items for these pros to advertise for us non pros to run out and buy, they should give something back!!!! Like free live tournament shows so we can see the product in use. It’s almost like buying a car. Hell I see millions of the same car bbt doesn’t mean I just run and jump in one you have to test drive it. Yes I know we can test use LS or spot lock but if we get to see the pros use it and we get to see it for free hell yeah. LoL. And maybe there should be a couple or tournaments where they can’t be used but then what would be use then as having to much advantage. It will be the pro with an aluminum bass boat that can get up shallower!!!!! LOL. And th is for the content and welcome back.

Pretty boring to watch livescope on TV. I think it also eliminates a ton of water, which is a powerful advantage. Takes all guess work out of exact location, which last time I checked is what fishing is all about- finding & fishing for bass. So basically it’s doing 85% of the work for angler; work that everyone should have to do on their own efforts & instinct. People are gonna support it because of sponsor/money biases & that they have success with it. But I think it’s too much power against bass & the sport is losing its unique nuances & character.

The saying, 90% active fish are in 10% of the water. Livescope eliminates the other 90% of empty water. That in itself is pretty big advantage. I have livescope and though it doesn't catch fish for me, I can save time in an area where there's no fish. At a pro level, that's the difference between $100k or $30k. it doesnt need to be banned, at all. Bass fishing desperately needs classed fishing on a professional level. different classes with different limits on hull types, boat lengths and widths, Motor restrictions based off cc's or HP. Tech and sonar restrictions for certain classes as well. B.A.S.S and MLF should be the F1 of fishing, with the best tech and boats. If bass fishing was classed out, the average joe with a jon boat, basic 2d sonar, and a few combos could compete, build sponsors, and possibly become professional without having to dump hundreds of thousands of dollars just to compete. All racing is classed out, even gokart racing has different classes, and as a matter of fact, a fair amount of F1 drivers started their careers karting as kids, just working out of their garage with their pops. Lewis Hamilton started out as a kart kid and is now one of the most well know racing drivers in history.

Reason why forward facing sonar should be ban is because it eliminate some hunting aspect of the sport. Like do we want the sport to turn into a video game? Prey can't hide anymore with LiveScope. Having rules keeps the sports interesting and I do believe boring is a valid point 🤷🏻‍♂️. The line has to be drawn somewhere. Everything needs regulations including electronics. The elites should be able to use every possible advantage. Banning something suggests that we have to make sure it's fair for everyone and that's simply not possible.

I don't get it. I don't see anything on your screen that looks like fish. Just a bunch of colors, I don't see your bait on there moving, or any fish moving to your bait. I need to see one of these in person being used but I don't have any fishing friends or anyone with a boat. I do have a pdl kayak and a Garmin Echomap UHD 93sv with GT54, which so far has not helped me do anything whatsoever let alone find a fish anywhere lol. I am computer and video game savvy also......

Should b banned 1 not all can afford it, In return it's not far playing field for everyone 2 there is going to be biggr limits like we never seen b4 and the biggest 1 is all the poachers are now going to take over their limits, not everyone plays by the rules

With that logic do we ban boats since they cost 100k now? Live sonar has been around for a couple years now and neither tournament weights or limits have gone up.

Love your channel, but I can’t stand the “ just cause you can see them doesn’t mean you catch them” reasoning. It’s infinitely easier to catch fish when you know they are there, exactly how deep they are holding, how they are reacting to each retrieve speed/style. At what point should we just allow under water cameras? Also, spectating tournaments where people are staring down at a screen trolling around and not even casting some of the time is brutal. Fishing will never be mainstream until it is watchable. Live sonar is making it worse. I say all this as someone who plans to use it. If it was banned I’d be fine with it, but as long as it’s allowed I’m not going to handicap myself.

I appreciate the comment and your stance especially as someone who is going to buy it and use it. Your point on underwater cameras - they would actually be way less productive than livescope. You need near crystal clear water to see even a few yards with a camera under water. While livescope isn't giving you an in person view, when you read the graph it can actually tell you way more than a camera ever would and in situations that would be useless for a camera. To your first point on "seeing them"....yes you can do all of those things, but by the time you do, and haven't caught any fish, and have run through every bait in the boat - the days over. 🤣

I do agree on making the elites more watchable though! I think they should be livestreaming their screens if it's a deepwater event so you can see what the pros are looking at atleast.

@@SBFishing that’s interesting about the camera. Obviously I’ve never used one, but does it make sense that the cameras are banned but live sonar isn’t?

Does 2d sonar not show you where fish are? Your reasoning that it makes tournaments boring is as bad as “ just cause you can see them doesn’t mean you catch them” . The moment graphs were put at trhe bow, anglers were staring at them. Seriously, what is the angler supposed to do uo there to make it more enjoyable? Do you want to be staring deep into their eyes as opposed to their backs? Not one thing has changed about watching tournaments in decades. Angler is fishing at the bow with a cameraman in the back. Live is more effecient at locating fish when you are at the bow and nothing more. Every perosn who has a negative comment about it has never used it which is hysterical. Its like taking fishing advice from sone who doesnt fish.

Tactialbassin had a short clip in one of their videos about that. When used as a trailer it gives the bait a totally different movement, Wide wobble to tight wiggle.

Just because you see them your not gonna catch them my a&@,😂😂😂and catching 1 out of 100 that you see is also not true , just a fact that you can see them is a huge advantage real good bass fisherman don’t need a forward facing solar, or live scope they should be able to catch by knowledge, but one day I still wanna try it out.

Nobody would be fishing 18 -20 foot of water normally. U can't use livescope shallow in weeds. But tells anglers where the fish are in deeper water. Or open water. No work put in other than looking at screen before casting. Takes all the competive tournament anticipation out of watching tournaments

Live scope has made guys that were not that good really good. Guys that have paid their dues and found fish the old fashioned way are having to play this game to keep up. I have watched your videos and you are better now than you were before on Occoquan Reservoir because of live scope. Is it fair to the guys that did it the old fashioned way? I am not a fan of it. I think that you should catch your fish without watching how they react to your bait.

Fishing shouldn’t be about looking at screens and chasing fish around all day. I can’t tell you how many times i turned on bassmaster live and everyone was staring at their screens with dropshots or jerkbaits. Thats just plain boring. Fishing should be about experience based instinct and intuition that tests the minds and skills of the angler. Having livescope is like knowing what pitch you had coming every-time you went up to bat. Sure, you won’t hit every pitch even if you knew what was coming, but you will have a much higher batting average over time just as in every fish wont bite if you use livescope, but there will be times where it makes the difference. I’m fine with regular electronics, but livescope shows how the fish react to your bait and their live movements. There are guys on tour that couldn’t fish in the elites without it. Thats sad.
