It’s crazy that you made this because I JUST bought myself a skirt yesterday. I think the fashion world, especially in the contemporary sense, is most definitely seeing a resurgence of gender-neutral garment pieces where you can style anything you want regardless of any preconceived notions, although judgement is TOTALLY still in the air from those insecure about self-expression in ways you mentioned. I love wearing cropped looks and anything that accentuates the male figure, but now my question is: how should the skirt FIT? What do you think is a good fit that accentuates the masculine body? I personally like the high-waist, baggy, and low ankle drop look, but rocking it skinnier and more fitted is also a look too!

I grew uo with 3 sisters and often thought sbout all their choices in colors and styles. I did use Holween as an excuse to wear skirts and even herls a few times. About 12 years ago i bought a couple of kilts as they are more "acceptable" for men but there is a vision as to hiw they should be worn. This summer at the age of 72 i decided to just start wearing skirts. They can be styled with almost any style of shoe and shirt. They're not as fussy as a kilt. Nice thing is my wife and daughters are fine with it. My wife has even picked iut a few skirts for me.

I would love to wear a skirt. I'm not gay. It just feels really fun and bad ass . But I'm to shy in public.

I've always liked seeing men in pants when they're sitting and a centurion's skirt when standing. My husband had the legs for both. If you like it wear it. Pants on women was once taboo also.

No ffeason for guys not to sear skirts. They are much more confortable and raise our fertility rate and helps incease our testerone levels and can be very masculine. Not to mention a lot of girls loves to see us in them and finds it attractive. So go for it!!!

Why not? Go for it. If folk don't like it that's their problem. It's like I don't like seeing lots of tattoos and piercings on other people, but im not going to get in their way if it makes them happy. I'm a crossdresser and regular man in a skirt and tights by the way

Thanks for making this video. I'm curious if you ever gotten flack in public for wearing a skirt and what you did to handle it. I'm a man in my 40's and dress like...a Dandy from space (?) I saw a few men's skirts at a local store and was considering rocking the look. I live in a very white collar, conservative city and most of the time I receive positive remarks on my outfits and tattoos. Though now and then someone has some negative things to say, or they just sneer at me. One of the skirts had a plaid pattern, I guess I could go for the kilt look with a dressy top.

I ain't a twink, but in our culture the Burmese men wear paso, or nowadays called longyi, no problem. Very comfortable, sorta like the sweat pants.

The simple truth is that if more guys tried skirts, they would not want to wear anything else. Goth guys have worn skirts for a long time, but I never dared before. Seven years ago I started wearing skirts and I would never go back to only pants and shorts ever again. Summer in Japan is insanely hot and humid and a skirt is perfect. I don't melt, I don't flash and I it helps with overheating. Plus they look great. Fall and winter skirts are also a plus. They look great and they are warm with leggings. I ID as Non-binary, but that isn't why I wear a skirt. I think the whole skirt hate thing is that many men are super insecure so they act out. I wear my skirts with confidence like I own the city I live in, that makes it look confident, fashionable and I mostly get very positive feedback from people. I have even been photographed by street fashion magazine staff. Now and then I get some serious hate from people, evil eyes, the usual Queer bashing comments and sadly almost all of that is from western folk visiting Japan and not people who live here. So I tend to just ignore it. My advice to guys. Buy three skirts. 1. An ankle length black skirt in a medium weight wool or cotton. Style it with Docs or vintage boots, a nice shirt and a jacket and it will not look remotely femme. 2. A midi skirt that stops at your knees. Try a kilt skirt first. A skirt that looks like a kilt but doesn't weigh so much. Show some leg and wear it with over the ankle boots to butch it up or sneakers to make it sporty. 3. Get one mini skirt. Yes, one mini skirt about 5-10 cm above your knees. If you are fit, show off some leg. This skirt gets me the most positive female attention. I wear it with boots and a t-shirt and hoodie and it reads punk, edgy and high fashion. So guys. Go for it. If you do it one month, you will include them permanently. I promise.

As a African American gender nonconforming heterosexual man who wears high heels, leggings, skirts, dresses, paints my nails, and wears makeup, I think people should be able to wear whatever they want no matter what gender they are. Why are we not finding skirts in men's clothing department at stores? Don't get me wrong, I'm okay with men wanting to wear skirts. I had a dream once where I was wearing a skirt and it was locked on tight with a chain and padlock.

Should men wear skirts? If they want to - absolutely. We have allowed it to become a taboo and so the garment has been appropriated by females. We should change that.

Historical precedence doesn't work as an argument for skirts in modern male fashion. It's the same reason why we're not walking around in togas or mail or frock coats, etc. Also the second problem with the skirt you're wearing is it's to be feminine. Lastly the biggest problem with men wearing skirts you actually mentioned yourself. We (society) ascribe meaning and connotations to pieces of fabric. Just because you decide yourself that "I'm going to wear this piece in a way with a different meaning" doesn't mean everyone else will see it that way. With all that said, should men in general wear skirts? Only if you want to tell the world you as a man enjoy wearing a predominantly feminine piece of clothing with near zero masculine context in a modern setting.
