No. People who want to be train drivers should be train drivers. There shouldn’t be more people doing anything. If more men are applying then this isn’t a problem, if more women are applying this also isn’t a problem. Let whatever gender gravitate to whatever job they want, let’s not do the whole ‘there’s an unequal amount of people doing so and so we must now try and fix this and balance the scales’. No. Because then that just leads to a whole load of reverse discrimination where people are being hired entirely on a protected characteristic first, before actual qualification.

It’s funny to me what’s considered masculine. This job is a masculine role because women weren’t welcome in most workplaces when it was created. I worked a very physical job for a shipping company. I was one of the only women. Accomplishments were black and white, you unloaded a certain number or packages or you didn’t. I unloaded multiple trucks when many male colleagues unloaded less than half that volume. Yet the same men would say that women shouldn’t work there. They’d say it to my face as I was doing their job for them. I learned that no matter what some men are just never going to recognize what a woman can accomplish. This makes me angry still but at the same time it encouraged me to pursue a technical degree. I don’t need their approval. Sure there are men that will throw away my résumé but at the end of the day I will earn good money and live independently thanks to the women that came before me.

Why not. Let them up with the horrendous shifts like their male counterparts have for years. It's not such an issue because I do not think woman would put up with it.

YES... I use to be a train driver, its so male dominated ,but more importantly, the mindset of the industry needs to be changed. I was treated so badly when i was in the position its not funny.. Its almost like youre taking something away from them, that they have to protect it.. They dont want to let someone new in, they dont want to teach you something, for fear of them losing their positions... and they are like sheep, if someone believes something , they tell the nest person, and the rest gang up on you... I was bullied to no end, just so i couldnt enter the job... This starts from management too, they are just as scared.... Good on you ladies, wish you all the success in the world
