6:59 The ovation was a combination of the pitching battle as well as the plays that we witnessed from Arenado in that 7th inning on both sides. Stadium entertainment had also just begun as the pitching change had just taken place as the Birds threatened for the first time of the game.

People get way too worked up about All-Star game selections. They’re pretty much meaningless, especially the starters. Chipper Jones wasn’t an All Star in 1999 (the year he won MVP) because the Pirates had to have someone represent their team. He was replaced by Ed Sprague. That’s extremely dumb, but it doesn’t really matter.

Hell Yeah! Skenes for the ASG wearing the Black and Gold- I assume nike has some more cruddy ASG unis to muck things up. LOVE... San Diego Brault- working for the Buccos on PITT Sports Net! As a Dodgers fan, and as much as I love that Mookie has stepped up, the Dodgers need to go after a shortstop. Bichette or Adames would be nice. As for the fan, props on the flip. Did it when someone was behind him but yeah, moronic idea to get on the field. He got what he deserved. F.A.F.O

It's definitely hard to say, I mean, how many rookies are instantly good enough and popular enough to go to the all-star game. I've only been watching baseball since 2022 and the most surprising rookie in the ASG was Corbin Carroll, but he eas playing insane so maybe he was an outlier, my knowledge on baseball when it come to the ASG is very limited so my opinion could be completely invalid here

Mikolas 7 innings 1 H 1 BB 6 K on 84 pitches. Skenes 6.1 innings 5 H 0 BB 8 K on 103 pitches. He allowed a double before he got pulled. If he stayed in he’s scoring. The fans were celebrating a a great start to a career. Nothing more. If Mikolas went out and got pulled after one out one double they would’ve cheered him the same.

@@jackiemoon5906 that's a division rival man. I just can't imagine Gerrit Cole going into Fenway, dominating the Red Sox and getting applauded by the fans in Boston. It would never happen. The rivalry is too deep. Same thing if Corbin Burnes went into Yankee Stadium and dominated the Yankees for 6-7 innings.

@@brandondillman5841 cardinal pirates is not a serious rivalry compared to Yankees Red Sox or even cardinals and cubs/ brewers. Also cardinals below 500 for the second straight season, maybe that factors in. I’m just salty no one even touched on Mikolas having a better day.

Bryan Woo has been a lot better through 6 starts than Paul Skenes, but I didn't see a single thing from JM saying "Should Bryan Woo be an All-Star". Why is that? Is it performance that matters or just name value?

Both, that's kind of the point. The All-Star game is a way to show off prominent stars (often to a more casual audience as baseball is the ONLY sports on during that week in July)

I think if Woo kept going for another start or two he would be in the same conversation. That being said (and for as much as Woo brings something unique to the table), in the spirit of the "spectacle" discussion the guy who throws a 100mph fastball 20x a game is going to be a better spectacle for a single inning.

@@ConlanHale Except it's not both. It's purely name value. And that's the problem. The All-Star game used to be a pretty significant thing for a player to go to. Now it's just a week of laughably bad roster construction.

@@ConlanHaleit’s also a way for casual fans to be exposed to players who are better than they realized. Everyone knows Paul Skenes already, that’s not a knock against him but I would rather have the better player at the game.
