When I first bought my house, my sump pit never had water in it. It was bone dry. Had cobwebs. Now it always has water and the pump runs a lot. I also have a bunch of water in the ground near the house where it drains. My backyard in general retains a ton of water now and is always muddy. Any suggestions?

So we got som rain sump pump was running spraying water I think one of the clamps came loose from vibration.I cleaned out the bottom of the pit just in case there was a few handfuls of broken up concrete possibly from construction.I plugged he back in after tightening the clamps on the check valve It sucked the water out fine left some in the bottom.over night it did not run again and I checked it bone dry I could see dirt. So I filled it back up and the water kept draining into the dirt at the bottom of the pit so I have no water in it is this normal or what is going on please?

My basin is pretty active right now. I put a brand new Zoeller Aquanot 508 sump pump in last year. It rained pretty heavily the other day and the temps have warmed here this February. We had a couple snow storms and an ice storm the last couple weeks. Now it's all melting along with the rainstorm and I've got tons of water going into my basin. My sump pump is running every 5 minutes or so. The basin goes down to 5 inches and back up to 11 inches every 4-5 minutes. My sump pump is super busy right now. I have an electric backup sump pump on it too just in case. I've had this house for a year so I'm learning about it now. Last year wasn't as active as this year. Lots of water in there. I have more rain coming tonight.

I just bought a house has been empty for about 6 months. and there's 3 sump pumps I'm not sure if one is a sump pit? but it smells like sewer, is there something I can do to fix that? awesome video thank you

I would say with 3 sump pumps you must have a high water table your living on for some of the year . Depending on your septic tank and leach field if you have one I’d say when the water table comes up maybe in spring or winter it could be causing your septic grey water to come up also . Just a thought .

I was doing basic maintenance on my sump (1st time homeowner and 1st time doing this): I noticed a lot of slug and iron deposits...okay, no problem I thought, after wet vac the water and lower clean water in, I came to realize the water is still dirty after pour abd vacuuming at least 30-40 in and out... Is this normal? Or am I fighting a losing battle?

Thanks for video - my sump pit actually has a few holes at the bottom edge where apparently the plastic has broken and mud and stones are starting to come up through. Do I need to replace the sump pit or can I patch the holes somehow? Thanks.

I have the same problem and I'm in the process of replacing it because of that and I keep seeing water raise up from the ground and wondering is that normal myself did you find out yet I'm trying to figure it out before the new basin is installed I'm not a construction guy just trying to do it myself
@rodneyspence7441
@rodneyspence7441 Жыл бұрын
@@yoyos2580 Hi - from what I’ve read there is supposed to be some holes in the pit to allow water to come in from the sides so the pit basin itself doesn’t raise up from the ground. I’m thinking the holes I see were purposely made there by the construction people which is why they’re about 90 deg apart. The idiots just made them too big to allow stones and mud to get through. Many new sump basins have small perforations already in them to allow water to drain in from the sides. So yes its normal to have a few inches of water in the bottom of the pit. I just use a shop vacuum to suck out the mud and stones periodically so it diesnt get up into the sump pump motor.

Ok, now how about the area surrounding your pit? The entire area around my sump pit stays wet. I have tried running de-humidifiers, and floor fans and it doesn't seem to want to dry up. The pump itself seems to run well. Just do not understand the moisture and wet ground around the pit itself

Mine is the same way. The foundation by my pump is leaking. Fortunately, it’s leaking into the sump pump so it’s not creating a puddle in my basement.

My house I just bought have a dry sump pit for months and when I check, it doesn’t have a sump pump, and when I uncover it, there’s no pvc pipe that bring water in either. All I see is a gap that run all around to the sump pit between my basement block wall and the concrete floor. Should I concern?
@TheTruckGuy
@TheTruckGuy Жыл бұрын
Maybe not concerned if it's dry, however if it's wet, then yes I would be concerned. I would monitor it closely and put some water detectors in there. Maybe have a contractor check it out and see if they suggest finishing it (you might want to since it sounds like you may have drain tile already in). However, if no water ever comes in, you might be fine doing nothing.

@@TheTruckGuy thanks for the reply…. I’ve watch many videos where they showed they purposely drill hole at the bottom blocks so the water can come in the drain around the house to fall in the pit…. Mine doesn’t have any hole because I don’t see them my drain gap between the wall and the flow is made straight out of concrete all around the basement toward the pit. I wish I know how to share picture with you so you can see what I mean.

We are potentially buying a house in VA. There is a crock in a closet in the basement, with no plumbing and no pump. It's just a crock, with a small crack in the bottom. There is water in the crock and no one can seem to tell us where the water came from or if we'll need to have the pipes and pump installed. The house backyard does have a big slope. The area around the crock is dry and our realtor dud not smell a musty smell. I am concerned about the standing water, as I am allergic to mold and my 81 yo mother will be living in the finished basement.

I'm not sure I'm familiar with a "crock." Is that like a sump pit? Is it in the basement?

The pit has nothing in it. There are no pipes going in or out of the pit and no sump pump. The previous owners claimed they never even noticed the pit, although they lived in the house for 5 years. Our inspector immediately made note of it, but now it's a mystery to everyone why it's there. We've reached out to a plumber to get an estimate to install a sump pump & the associated plumbing. We'll need an electrician too.
@TheTruckGuy
@TheTruckGuy Жыл бұрын
Yes, that is good to get a handle on for cost. However, if you are there a year and never see water either, you can probably avoid that. It's seems unlikely that there is much water otherwise you could probably tell and they should be required to dicose that. If no water comes in a year or two, you could then seal it off if desired. I would recommend putting some water sensors down there right away. Overall, you should be fine.

@@TheTruckGuy thank you. We are getting a bid on a pump install, so we can use that info to renegotiate. We can't ask for money after the fact, so now is the time to renegotiate. Thanks for you speedy replies. I don't know crap about crocks with cracks. HA! I felt like I was in a Dr. Suese movie trying to get answers...crack and crock should never be used in the same sentence. Especially if you're trying to ask serious questions. :)

My pump runs every minute or so during heavy rain and after days of no rain every 15 to 20 minutes or so. The very bottom of the crock developed a hole about the size of a quarter which allows water to enter the crock well below where the corragated piping is above. Opinions, suggestions please?! Thanks!

Snow isn't the same as rain, it shouldn't cause immediate water into your sump pit. Granted once your snow melts, you may see more water in your pit. But I'm in Minnesota and it usually isn't too bad with snow melt, heavy rain is worse.
