I own three chainsaws and this was the third. I got a spare battery with it. I LOVE it. It is a back saver beyond words at 8 pounds compared to my other two gas powered saws! I cut dead fall firewood on 20 acres with it and can do 3 times the work (compared to the other two) before my old back starts to complain. I have no complaints at all so far and I let the saw do all the cutting by just letting it pull itself through with next to no effort on my part. Keep a sharp chain on it and it will do what you need for smaller cutting. Battery charge time from 20% to full is one hour. PS Dealer told me not to run the battery dead as the charger may not recognize or charge a fully depleted one. I have not witnessed this but I keep at least one bar before I swap it. Just a tip from the Stihl rep.

i own the same stihl msa 120, i usually cut dry dead wood, and i did a similar test myself, havent recorded it thou. there is a trick you can use to increase the number of cuts, and that is to let your saw cool down for just a few minutes every 5-10 cuts. i usually take the time to split the cut wood while it cools down. i am not sure, but i believe this cooldown time actually allows the battery to, hmm lets say, "recuperate" a bit, if you know what i mean. i actually got about 15 cuts more using this trick, rather than cutting without cooldown time. i have no other explanation, i am not saying the battery magically recharges itself, i just believe it lasts longer when you arent draining it all at once. granted, you did have time outs between the cuts, walking over to different trees and showing us battery level, but i dont think it was enough. anyways, i love this saw, i always make sure that, every time when im charging the battery i clean the chain and bar completely, poke out the oil dispensing holes from wood dust, and add fresh oil to the max. i know both Stihl and other ppl are saying this saw isnt for cutting firewood, but for trimming the trees and branches. but using my cooldown technique i have already cut around 5 cords of firewood, with absolutely no harm to the saw. and the chain is so cheep, i recommend just buying a new chain rather then sharpening it, of course if one can afford it. if you are cutting firewood with this saw, dont go all in until the battery runs out. take your time, split some wood while its cooling down, enjoy the nature, split a cold one with a friend (split just one, never drink and operate saws). and at the end, just a little trivia, we call this saw "a little beast" in my neighborhood :) it really is. tnx for the review.

I also have this saw. 299.00, was worth the price for its light weight. Especially when you're topping off trees 30' up in the canopy, or climbing up three sections of scaffolding to cut off a ridge beam. Ever tried cranking on the pull rope while your legs are clamped around a beam? You pray it starts on the first pull. So yeah, its worth the steep price to me. But it is a battery saw, and as such you can not expect it to last forever. I leave the battery in the first notch, then slap it in when I'm ready to use it.

Thanks for the video. I'm checking into battery chainsaws because I'm tired of breathing in the fumes with the gas powered saws. You've proven the saw can cut and I'm sure keeping the chain sharp helps. But the big question is which manufacturer will continue to make batteries that fit the model I choose and at a reasonable price? I've gotten burned by drills where the batter lasts for a year and then won't hold a charge. When I go to get a new battery they cost 80% of a new drill with battery. In that case, I went with a different manufacturer for the new drill.

@@WesternEquipment Thanks for the reply. I'm looking closer at Greenworks 60v 16" due to: price, power and battery use w/ other equipment. Greenworks also has a history of continuing batteries over the years, as opposed to others manufacturers who see new battery design as a way to force equipment upgrades - I'm not interested in that kind of company.

Here's a review of this saw . it cuts well as long as it is sharp. it has great torque , no bog down, it runs about 15 min hard cutting. It has approx. 1000 battery cycles meaning full to empty=1 , In real life when you cut a tree there are several more cuts on that tree to make it mobile or burnable . this saw is made for a very small short job , with very limited tools. Its sorta made for the person that has 2 tiny trees that get trimmed once a year. It has its place , Residential. IT's Very Quiet, The Wood makes more noise. these trees are soft and dead. the harder the wood the more resistance the less the life of the charge. I killed a battery on 1 tree, but i had 2 batteries, you could have 100. there are 3 levels of batteries for this line of saws, all batteries are interchangeable , so the battery from the 120 also fits the 160saw and Stihl lawnmower, It uses 2 batteries.

Demonstration videos are good, from any brand but there is an issue with this video. Eye protection is mentioned but no leg protection such as chaps or pants. The major brands such as Husq and Stihl promote proper use of these power tools and unfortunately, this gentleman is missing his PPE on his legs. Videos such as these should promote all aspects of safety not just a demo of the saw.

Background music was really irritating. I would've liked to have heard the saw run and watch it saw. Also, why was the guy moving the saw back and forth. If you're going to do that you might as well go get a $10 bow saw and save yourself some money.

Yeah we agree the music was terrible and my impatience got the best of me and started acting ignorant with the sawing back and forth haha. Next saw video will be better!

Really wish you would have showed some cuts in real time and unedited. I don't mind the fast fwd or the music. Like would it kill you to do 1 or 2 cuts then ffwd? I want to hear it running and see the actual cut. 👎👎👎
@WesternEquipment

Looking back we should have done a few cuts live. We really wanted to emphasize the cuts and what it could handle while not making it a 30 minute long video. In the product overview video you can hear it turn on.

Well as you can see in the video it is capable of cutting trees and branches way thicker than 4". The "100 4" cuts" is a guide to how long the battery will last.
