Remains the best camera BMD has created in the pocket series and overall imo because how it changed the market. Overall, the G2 is the best camera they've ever made imo, but the p4k you just can't beat for price, quality, etc. Such a great camera

This camera has been an absolute MVP for my remote editing work and KZfaq Videos for the last three years. Love the iq, colors and reliability of this camera. Raw is amazing, but I have been shooting all my KZfaq work in prores for a faster turnaround.

Interested to see what the next iteration of the Pocket lineup will be. They've gotten quite huge and I'm not sure the DSLR-like form factor really works for everyone given how they always get super rigged up in the end. Good luck with your channel, looking great so far!

I own two 4K's and love them. Had them for a little under a year. I bought them new and considered upgrading eventually to the 6K G2 but I think I may just stay with these a bit longer because they are great and if it isn't broke, don't fix it.

This is an odd observation, but I really enjoyed the sustained comments you made on learning curve (I.e. no/few jump cuts to trim dialogue) I actually found your thoughts really well, and refreshing to hear without being distilled in a KZfaq trend of in-out jump cuts.

i havent really touched this thing since i picked up my fx3 about 2 years ago. just started playing around with it again and was blown away. it looks so good with so much less tweaking than my slog footage. made me go back and look at some of the stuff i shot with it and im so impressed. i picked up a lumix 12-35 since i sold all my ef glass when i switched to sony. the ois in that lens coupled with the ois in camera makes it super usable handheld. gonna start just carrying it around and taking little snippets of my day. i had initially intended on using it as a b-cam with my fx3 but havent really ever needed a second camera since switching.

True. There are certain things and features that you need to shoot at a competitive level . But beyond that it's really upto the skill. And pocket 4k provides all those features. I recently came across a video that was shot using p4k and one vintage lens and it straight up looked like a movie. It was called Arunachal wonderland or something about a state in my country. And while watching it I suddenly realised that this camera costs less than the latest iPhone and is capable of results that a lot of KZfaqrs can't achieve who hop on to a new 'cinema camera' every six months. And in a couple of days your video pops up! Funny thing is, a lot of young filmmakers buy the iPhone or ipads citing budgetary reasons which actually probably is an excuse to avoid the learning curve coz I checked and realised the top iPhone costs more than a pocket 4K + vmount battery+ ssd+ a couple of vintage lenses 😂. You are absolutely right about it forcing you to get better. It really challenges you. Great assessment

I had a pocket 4k for years, Just sold it. The image was amazing! Arguably better than sony a7s3 in certain conditions.... The colors and highlight roll off were sublime. However, i absolutely hated using the camera. I hated using it on paid shoots all day. Hated traveling with it. Hated always having to have it rigged up. I love photos and cinematography as an art so i initially thought i would be ok with all the downsides. I was wrong. At the end of the day the best camera is the one you have with you and you enjoy using. And i just never wanted to take this camera with me. I replaced it with a sony a7c, which is a HUGE downgrade image wise..... but now i have a convenient camera that i love to take with me in literally any scenario. And because of that i've already captured more (artistically) with the a7c than i ever did with the pocket 4k.... just my 2 cents....

I just bought a used one for $1400 Canadian with a lens, cage and monitor! I have to say, I really love the colours that I'm getting out of it! For a camera of it's age, it's really impressive and think I prefer the image over the A7SIII or FX3, as I think the highlight roll-off looks more natural and filmic. Blackmagic really understands what goes into making a fantastic image. I just have to rig up a V-mount battery, as the stock battery life is rubbish. 😄

I absolutely agree. I just upgraded to a UMP G2 and I have to tell you, I miss my pocket... especially shooting at night (I'm still adapting to the UMP G2 and everyday it gets better) but the Pocket 4K is a beast. With the right adapter very few cameras can beat it... and all of them are way more expensive.

This câmera it's really amazing. I don't like using it with speedbooster, but with micro four thirds lens it's wasome. The 4k pro res files plays like a buther in premiere. The post production workflow its really good and the results most times are great after adapt using it

why not buy the 6K pro? if one is saving money.. but I do have three 4/3 micro lenses from my GH3 should I sell all the lenses and gh3 and keep saving up money for a 6 K pro and a lens for that or should I jus sell the gh3 house and keep the lenses and get a 4 K pocket Black Magic camera now right away? or how to think if one want to make short documentaries and short films to make money from them, and maybe start with yourutube or other platforms like Fiverr ...?

If you use a video color chart like the calbright, it's even better you have a realy good starting point for color grading the result is realy more vibrant, of course you can desaturated and put a teal and orange grading on the final result, in BRAW it realy give you all the dynamic range to work with it , very usefull camera for small project like music video or even documentary and commercial , it's also usefull for b stock footage. Making an entire movie with it is risky, because of some downside this thing wont resist hard dust and bad weather conditions, have a limited batterie life , you need to put more accesories to have that film configuration, on low profile like a dslr camera this thing works realy fine.

I have the 4K and I got the 6K G2 recently. I've been using a 24-105 f4.0 Canon L paired with a Viltrox M2 and I thought that my lens is the culprit for the soft and yellow tint that it creates over the image. When I got my 6K G2 and used the 24-105 lens over it, mannnnnnn. What an eye opener. I understand now why you got to really have a metabones adapter for the 4K. The Viltrox M2 degrades the image coming through the lens by a significant amount. I still love the 4K for the soft images it creates, I have the meike 25mm that I still use for the 4K. I wouldn't use the 4K for night scenes tho.

I like your video, I have a7iii that I enjoy. I’ve used it for over a year. I just got a BMPCC4K but was going to return it and get the 6k. Would recommend a 6k over the 4k?

It's funny I've come across this. I already have a full bmpcc6k rigged out etc, but I came across and ebay listing for a bmpcc4k and had to buy it. It came with a smallrig cage(with t5 mount), a feelworld 4k monitor, a voiglander 17.5mm f0.95 lens, a few batteries, and even a sealed davinci resolve licence still in the box. The guy had used it twice and had it just sitting there. All of that new is close to £3K and I got it for £1250. I didn't even have to pay delivery as he just so happened to live 2 stops away from me on the tube. This is definitely a sleeper that people should not ignore even though it's not a new camera. As they say, Old but Gold.

Blackmagic Cinema are MOVIE camers, not DSLRs that shoot video. The other thing I like, besides the CINEMA asoect, is the Blackmagis OS. Once you learn the OS, you can operate ANY Blackmagic camera that uses that OS. I got my BMPCC4K in May of 2019 and I still love it. Even if I find myself getting the PCC6K Pro or BMD releases a PRO version of their new Cinema--6, I will STILL keep my 4K regardless. It, and its MFT cine DS lenses have earned their place in my gear inventory.

I find it kind of funny that the intro clip where the item is focused on, then auto focuses to the face is totally impractical for the p4k (as someone who owns one and should have gotten Sony for my needs) 😅

Interesting your point « learning curve » (even more as beginner). For me the absolute point is it’s cinema look render (quality as « texture » etc) ; i’ve seen many comparaisaon with part of all dslr fromm 800 to even 2000€, no one can get such a cinema« renderging »

Im thinking to switch to black magic design cameras cause of the BRAW. I have only 1 thing that holds me back. Is that the non flipping monitor annoying you? This the thing for my kind of work that give me the gap of 1000$ with the bmpcc6k. I want to avoid monitors . I want run and gun things with not so much weight. Thank you

I find 6k pro for only 1500 with a Lens and extra battery and Cage. Im not a pro not even a filmmaker just like to do wildlife, Mico and Travel. I saw the OG and the 4k for like 500 to 900€ so not sure if the 6k pro is too much of a camera for me??

The fact that you’re comparing a cinema camera to a digital photography camera is what every body does, the problem with that comparison is that the Blackmagic P4k is a cinema camera, and solely meant for that purpose. An Arri Alexa or any Arri cameras are all manual and don’t have any of the functions these new cameras do, and they are the cinematic standard. In fact, 95% of movies you watch today are shot on an Arri @1080p and upscale. Nor Sony or any other photography hybrid shots in raw because for the most part they can’t handle that much information. Where the BMPCC 4K can shot for hours at end, the Sony A7 series like any other photography camera, the sensor over heats and you have a max record time of 20 to 28 minutes. If you would have compared a BMPCC4k against a Red Komodo or Canon C70 C200 C700 or the like that would have been great. The Blackmagic is a dedicated cinema camera, and it functions like one. Stick to comparing digital photography cameras is you don’t know the difference. Oh yeah, Blackmagic 4K is well worth it in 2022 and 2023. If Arri is still making movies at 1080p and is the standard, Blackmagic 4K or 6 K is a great tool to use and keeps you in standard with most cinema cameras like Panasonic Varicam, kifinity, canon, red, and the like. Do your research and stop listening to these stupid video that can’t tell the difference in cameras.
