Insurers only don’t pay the vat if the policy holder is vat registered. Private policy holders only pay their excess

Ricky. Why is it we never see videos with diagnosing and repairing problems? We only see what is coming and why, as well as engine builds. Would be really nice to see an Audi R8 with an issue being fixed from start to finish. This would be interesting, as the rest of the video seems just a very brief overview...

On diagnosis, I’m wondering whether only some of it is immediate. For example, Ricky will know the top X reasons for symptom Y. He knows what is wrong and just needs to confirm it formally. Some issues, it might be Z, A, B or other. In my tiny niche of 70s Japanese two stroke bikes, sometimes diagnosis is improved by sleeping on it. Wouldn’t make good content 🙃

I'm glad I watch two of your favourite KZfaq channels Ricky, CEE in Australia and Jim's automotive in Denver Colorado. ( Jamsie on line). At CEE,Kurtis is a great all round machinist, fabricator, welder and genius at everything he does, his lady, Karen is one great videographer and editor and shows Kurtis's skills to the best of her ability and her ability is great. Jim has had his own engine shop for the best part of 34-40 years and is now working with his son, teaching him everything. Because he is meticulous at getting an engine clean, and I mean clean before he starts measuring up the parts prior to working on anything his son calls him the 'Cleaning guy'😂😂 but the cleaning guy does the crank grinding, and he really knows his onions ! And of course I'm subscribed to RE Performance because you lot are at the top of your game too Ricky!😢

Ricky you might of got charged VAT by your insurance company because it’s a business policy I could be wrong mate but Iv not had to pay VAT in the past.

Yes same. Someone crashed into my wife the other year on an audi a1, slight wing damage but nearly 3k repair bill. No bill for her

My vehicles are for the company which is vat registered so yes I have to pay vat. Even when someone else admitted liability. But if I had not been registered for vat there insurance would have coughed up full invoice price

Nige 'pinderwagen' has the right idea but he'll put the time & effort in getting his R8 developed into anything Audi Motorsport would be happy with ! I'll say this with knowing the work that's gone into golf from the very early days I keep window shopping for cheap R8s, Mrs would kill me😮😅

Great insight as usual, got the wife to sit down and watch it to as she longed for an v8 R8 as an upgrade to her Mk2 TT quatro, however I feel its back fired on me now, as rather than wanting a £30k v8, after what you said she wants a £60k v10!!!!!😂

Howsit Ricky! Question: I am intrigued by the valve stem guide clearance/wear issue. Why do you think both valve guides have worn (Inlet/Exhaust) on one side of one cylinder at the same time while the rest of the cylinder's are still good/in spec??? Keep up the good work dude! Kudos to you and the boys seeing how much work you've got on! Keep er lit!

Hi Ricky. Loving the videos. Looking at taking my first steps into Audi RS ownership. I’m looking at B7 RS4’s. What do I need to look for in key jobs that should be done or may need to be done when buying one? Also, you mentioned in this vid about getting an inspection done on expensive cars prior to purchasing but who do you recommend to pay to inspect a car such as the B7 RS4 and roughly how much do inspections cost? Thanks in advance.

I’ve never found that with the vat on insurance Ricky unless the clients are vat registered, but as you say it might me different policy’s What really stands out to me is how much Audi parts are! They just seem overly expensive compared to Bmw and Porsche bits!

I bought a 15 plate RS 4 one of the last V8s kept it for 3 years it came from Audi dealer who I have bought all but one of my 6 Audis from they replaced all the brake discs and pads and fully serviced it great car loved it but ended up chopping it in for a new Q3 sport back as the last service cost £2k and the advisories on MOT was new exhaust, 2 weeping shocks etc it only had 34k on the clock but the bill was mounting as much as I loved it it had to go. Prior to that I had S3 on a 16 plate I wish I had kept that as an A to B it was the quickest car I have owned, but I was in the end worried about the car jack factor that they attract which showed in the insurance cost the RS4 was half the price to insure with the same insurance company.

I managed to get a 30k r8 with 80k miles but it had new magride all round, new brakes all round, new ps4s, clutch done, ac replaced oil cooler and lines done, walnut blasting and mrc stage 2 all within the previous 6000 miles which was a bit of a bargain!

I paid exactly the same got 400 back for r8 plate so 29600 at 80k and 1000 miles just before I got it the owner had over 10k of work new clutch fly wheel , air oil separator , coolant pipes and oil cooler , service new oil for transmission , new oil sump and seal and also another bill for furhrrr 3k in 2018 for 2 new ECUs so I rekon they can be had if you keep looking

I think the 30k thing is just a matter of perspective. What happens is that the number is misleading. A 30k R8 costs 40k+ to run properly. Different brand and scale of budget, but I was facing the idea of selling a car for 20k that needed 10k+ in repairs that I knew of..... A car that is worth maybe 35k in excellent condition.

Hi guys great videos. To do a twin turbo build on an R8 gen2 is there a particular year that works best?, as the car will be ecu tuned for the upgrade presumably it doesn’t matter if it’s a performance or not ? And can you twin turbo a spider or would you not recommend it due to the extra torque when launching? Cheers

If the intake and exhaust valve guides are only bad on one cylinder does that indicate something else is up in that cylinder? Fuelling perhaps?

Ricky, you showed the play in the valve guides. What are the symptoms of excess play. I`ve replaced guides that were outside of spec when I`ve had heads machined and seats 3-angle cut, but if you leave them what`s going to fail. Smoke from burning oil, valve fatigue / failure ?

Question; so the 5 cylinder CEPA engines are cast iron and sound far superior to the aluminium block DAZA’s (unpopular opinion) do the V10 engines from gen1 to gen 2 vary in block material thus resulting in one sounding better/more unique than the other?

Should the statement now be ‘don’t buy a 30k R8 unless you’re prepared to throw 10k at it’? I can’t see that a 40k advertised R8 isn’t going to need a penny spent, but the 30k one will be tip top having had works completed. I’m budgeting around 35k for purchase with 10 on top for expected works and feel that should get me a half decent V8 manual.

Couldn't agree more. High side suck I went big for my first crash on the street 180 kph Exiting a corner and the headlight goes out. Started breaching I thought I was trailbreaking through the corner. Turns out the moment I hit the brakes. I went in a straight line off the road. Reartire slipped into the ditch Probably because I was using too much break on grass Was thrown off did Half rotation landed on the back of my neck And the top of my shoulders Then did one or two flips And landed on top of my head Is first impact broke my neck C7 Second Got my back t2 t3 t4 Dragged the five hundred + pound bike out of a ditch the next morning screaming in pain because the doctor said I was all good......They didn't take any x rays😂

I don’t know how you an say an R8 is reliable , you always got them in for repair , that’s without Audi dealerships,I remember a much earlier video you did on the subject put me off buying one for 45K , I think you need bottomless pockets to maintain them ,also I like to tour😅 Europe and don’t think I would feel happy expecting a breakdown , I’m glad I bought something else instead, good party

It was from the old days when mechanics had to work in dingy pits ,before they had lifts, it was so you could feel if your head was gonna bang on the exhaust or driveshaft as you manouvered underneath the cars vans or even horses they had to work on back in the olden days.

Cheap Audi's. there are no cheap used Audi's......there is no such thing as a good buy. Buy an old truck with your money, it can flatten any Audi.

Agree with the DFV engine, I’d say the most famous engine of all time . Let’s just say you’d like my coffee table made from McLaren MP4 engine from 1982 😁. Next in line would be the BDA / BDG . Better buy than an old R8 ? Obviously a Range Rover Sport TDV8 just the turbos cost more than the vehicle but it’s paid for and at £2400 squids who gives a Damn , tows Bute and still get the look of a Mancunian’Dealer’ 😵‍💫🥹
