A "cheap" Kings lithium will still be strides in-front of any "quality" Lead Acid/AGM in performance for those that are budget conscious. They have come along way since their early days as other budget range brands have also. Usually it's those that are told they can use Lithium as a drop in replacement tend to run into problems. Or they are not suitably fused where it's needed in their setup to protect the battery as much as what the battery is running. Do your due diligence on all the gear you run and ensure your charging solutions will work regardless if someone said it would.

Kings products do cop a lot of crap, but at a fraction of the price of name brands that aren’t as good as they have you believe, I think they are good value especially for someone starting out on a budget. I have 3 x 200A Kings lithiums and they are all fine. I have seen a number of tests & teardowns of them & they are a good build with nice prismatic cells & a decent BMS. Kings have really upped their game with their batteries lately, the 300A lithiums you can run a 3000W inverter, perfect for any high powered camper setup. Ive seen Kings inverters & batteries take a lot of abuse and still keep going.

Thanks for the video :) I got the 250w fold out Kings hard panel and it has worked great. I am considering some other Kings stuff now or pehaps maybe going with the 150ah Kickass battery box + an inverter. Currently have just plug and play power stations and I know now I can do what I want cheaper if I have the separate components. I have enough to do what I need to do now, but want back up in the instance something breaks or there's a long period of increment weather. This stuff does not have to be hard, but I find many people on the internet insist making it sound so hard. And yes punters will knock brands quality when it is - like you say, probably their setup and or how they're using it.

Ive seen the video you're talking about, and strangely his was 4 cells in series, i purchased one and also took it apart and mine was 8 cells in a series parallel configuration. Mine also tested up at 132ah before the inverter i was using as a load, shut off at 11v. What i am disappointed in is the 60ah battery, it tested to a fantastic 67ah, however it wont take a charge now, even after the jump start techniques and bench power supplies, i have determined the bms is dead. Ive had it 3 days and planned on using it to run a trolling motor this weekend

@petcuyvers yeah after they apparently tested it in store for an hour they couldn't get it to work either, so they wanted to send it away for inspection and further testing but Australia consumer law states that dead on arrival goods, you're entitled to a refund or replacement with a new item so after threatening a case with them, they replaced it on the spot and the new one is from a different batch number and works perfectly. Runs the 24Lb watersnake for a good 6 hours no trouble and tested at 60ah, once it was trickle charged to allow the bms to balance the cells. Charging at 20a the bms cut off at 14.1v so there was a decent imbalance. But at 100ma overnight, it accepted a further 7ah and now reliably charges at 30a all the way to 14.6v and yields 67.2ah

Hey mate, wondering what your thoughts are. I recently got a century 100amp hr slim line lithium. I have an existing setup in the canopy where i was running a projecta BCDC. Ive had a heap of conflicting advice. Can you run a lithium with a BCDC using the AGM charge profile? I checked out the projecta lithium charge profiles, they are almost identical to the AGM except for the initial soft charge setting, bulk, absorption and float are nearly identical. The profiles for AGM also dont exceed the voltage or amps as per century and ironically are the exact charging voltage recommended by century whereas the lithium profile is a little off the specified voltage, not over the max voltage however. Ive been running it for a few weeks now and havent had any issues, i checked the century BMS as per the app and it hasnt thrown any codes etc. Its been running the fridge for two weeks now now issue full time parked in the sun.

Lifepo4 cells/batteries are a relatively safe chemistry, I have seen a couple of vids of them catching fire after some very serious abuse with a crowbar puncturing a cell several times or multiple drill holes through a cell (Will Prowse had one catch fire doing this), but that is extreme abuse. Lithium-Ion cells/batteries contain cobalt which have a history of potential thermal runaway incidents, case in point: many EV’s catch fire. Cobalt has a nasty habit of spontaneously combusting when exposed to high temperatures & air.

I bought a 200 amp lithium from kings. I was running a ctek 250 dse. 25amp charger. The charger got up to 75 degrees (nearly engine temp). Took it straight to an auto electrician. He said faulty charger as it would get hot within 2 minutes. Replaced it but no difference. Next thing he said is your negative wire isn’t thick enough over heating the circuit. Installed new thick negative but same problem. After that we changed the battery out for another one and all fixed. Turned out the kings battery dropped a cell from factory tricking the charger into an extreme bulk charging phase. Went back to kings and got everything replaced for free. Haven’t had a problem since. My advice it’s good but be careful nearly burnt my whole car down

They don't seem to be any worse or better than any of the lower priced batteries. Got mine on special for $349 - can't argue with that. I have a 200W inverter and two 100AHr batteries. one of which is the Kings Both of them will only see 75A draw if I ever draw the 2000W from the inverter which will probably be never. I have a clamp meter so I am going to check that both batteries are equal current when at 1800W which is the heater I will use as the dummy load. If you were running a 2000W inverter from a 100AHr battery that can do 150A then sure you would need the expensive one that can do that however limiting your current draw to well under the 100A that these batteries will give will make sure the cheaper battery works OK.

Very unwise for anyone to consider using any lithium battery without using a BMS, I know they do this in the audio industry a bit & I think they are looking for big trouble in the long run. Along with a battery BMS you will also need a proper controller for DC-DC input or solar charging of course.
@evil17
@evil17 3 ай бұрын
@@MulletOnTourif the battery is half decent it should have enough protections in the BMS to mitigate such issues, fires starting due to high amp draw is probably more likely due to poor wiring, fusing, connections or components beyond the (Lithium) battery. I am not saying to do this, but if internal connections & BMS are okay, you should be able to do a quick dead short without causing any harm to the battery as the BMS should mitigate this and shut down requiring you to give it a jump start to get the BMS active again.

Yeah, there's a lot of Kings haters out there, but most of them are just hate without reason. It is now regulation (since Nov '23) that lithium batteries must be mounted in an externally vented space. For example, they can be under a bed in a caravan, but there must be external ventilation to that under-bed space.

I think you should do some research on the differences between lifepo4 batteries and the other lithium battery chemistry’s, some of the things you’ve said here are rather inaccurate. A quality agm battery won’t die after one heavy discharge either, a fullriver 120ah agm is rated for 500 cycles at 90% depth of discharge
@MulletOnTour
@MulletOnTour 3 ай бұрын
AGM batteries aren’t even close to lithium batteries. Majority will not withstand a full discharge. AGMs are damaged when discharge below 50%, in most cases. I’ve done my research and also work on the field man
@ajf9034
@ajf9034 2 ай бұрын
@@MulletOnTour I work in the field to, probably for longer than you’ve been on this earth. I never said anything about agm being equivalent to lithium, because they’re not, it’s like comparing apples to oranges. Quality agms can have a 80% dod capacity without causing any significant problems when recharged and cared for properly, I don’t know what brands you’ve been dealing with, the 50% rule is more important with flooded lead acid batteries. As with all batteries, even lifepo4 the deeper the depth of regular discharge the less cycles you’ll get out of a battery. The inaccuracy I was referring to was how you said that lifepo4 batteries would catch fire or explode.

Wow, so much wrong in the video. It's not a bcdc charger, its a dc dc charger. Bcdc is the model name one brand uses, i cant remember the brand. Second, you don't use voltage, you use energy or power. Third, they've never releases a serious lithium battery without a bms or a requirement for an external bms. So it coming with one is hardly special. The flattening an AGM down to its "minimum voltage" isn't good for it but won't destroy it. Finally, the fact one battery has performed well is no indication it's a great product.

BMS,s are not all the same. Kings will be a cheap arse BMS. A good BMS is needed for reliability, complete cell analysis and monitoring. They also do not use A1 quality cells.. There is a reason they are cheap (just like their other shoddy products). Saying "they draw a lot of power" means nothing. You should provide figures and also have you actually tested the capacity of the battery. ?

No need for the hate man, just giving people a basic insight. Yes they probably have a cheaper BMS but it’s still a BMS works the same as all the others. You probably don’t even know what A1 cell means. “They draw a lot of power” is a simple term for the people at home watching. They don’t have the best compressors in them, meaning they draw lots of current when the compressor needs to kick in. If you want actual figures let me know I can send them in

I have seen several teardowns and capacity tests on these batteries & cells. The cells look and performed perfect, capacity was always good to somewhat above spec and they generally use a reasonable quality JBD BMS that also performs well to above spec. There was one test & teardown that the reviewer failed, the battery performed flawlessly in all area’s except one terminal post was a bit hotter than the other and on further inspection was found to have a internal connecting bolt that was not torqued properly, so he failed it, even though it did pass the capacity test while pulling 200A continuously, the bolt was not that loose and was siliconed to help stop it from loosening anymore and I have come across this in other battery brands, so not just Kings. Kings probably sell 100 x more batteries at this price, so you could expect them to have more bad reviews, but not necessarily because the product is any worse than anyone else. I bought 3 x 48v Seplos “Suntorque” 5.12 kWh home batteries less than 2 years ago and all 3 have failed, these are supposed to be a quality battery & BMS with a 10 year warranty, 2 of these batteries are now at 59% & 74% SOC respectively, while the 3rd battery just died recently, suspected BMS failure, so that will cost $300 to send back for repair under warranty, while the other 2 I will test for faulty cells and they will be sent to & replaced by me. No one would expect to get the best cells in the cheapest batteries on the market, & I have to agree with MOT that you probably have no idea what an A1 cell is, as EVE cells are made for EV’s and dont come with posts or threads in their original form, which means the only batteries containing EVE cells that you could give an A1 grade are in EV’s. EVE cells do not have a manufacturers grade system other than they pass or fail for EV use, and while they can fail for any or many reasons for EV use, they are still very acceptable as a storage grade battery.
