Overview of what a salvage title is and how bikes get them. I say that Georgia allows you to 'rebuild' three vehicles a year but that's now been changed to two a year.

So is your insurance going to be the same price salvage or not?

After some searching it looks like in Georgia if you want to get a rebuild title you have to be a licensed rebuilder and fix the bike and get it inspected and pay $100. A real headache.

Only sorta true. You do have to pay the $100 inspection fee but anyone can be their own "rebuilder" for two vehicles a year in GA, no special license required. The internet is full of BS and half truths. Just call one of the inspection stations and they'll tell you the real deal.

im from NC looking at a salvage title R6, it has a ding on the fuel tank and the bike was bought from copart as a run and drive motorcycle, the seller is selling for 6.8K with 9K miles on it - I'm considering it and def will ask for wiggle room but i'd like to get your opinion about that ding on the tank if its any foul play

Just saw this. Gas tank dings suck but fairly common when bikes fall over. Certain brands have tanks that always seem to ding, I'm thinking of Triumph sport bikes in particular. Typical new replacement price on a tank is about $1k, half that if you can find one on eBay. It wouldn't worry me especially if on the sides where they ding when they fall over.

So it's not hard to get insurance on a rebuild title as long as you only need liability coverage?
@IQToms Жыл бұрын
It's not even a question they ask. Never had an issue and I've ensured at least two dozen salvage title bikes. Why would they care about the title status?

Idk. I've always heard it's hit or miss depending on what insurance company you have. It's good to know that it's not an issue tho. I've passed up a lot of good deals because of bad advice.

There are many insurance companies so some may care about title status. I've been with Geico and currently insure three salvage title bikes with Progressive and it's never come up even with full coverage. Over 20 years ago, with Allstate I think, I had to go by an agent's office and he took a couple photos of the bike.

under branded on mine it says *Rebuilt vehicle* & on the title type it says "Transfer what's that mean
@IQToms4 ай бұрын
Rebuilt means it was a salvage title but the owner did whatever his state required to have it changed to rebuilt. Usually this means having an inspection. In GA you pay $100 at an inspection station and get a form signed then submit everything to DMV. When you get the title back salvage will be removed and it will say rebuilt. In GA you must do this as you can't register a salvage vehicle. Reckon other states are similar. Usually you also have to show a receipt that you fixed something.

@@IQToms well that's how I got from the other person..not sure if the situation is a good or bad thing

It's a good thing mostly. It means someone went through the drill to have it changed from salvage. There's no downside to it being rebuilt. Where I live, in SC, it makes no difference as both brands are treated no different than a clean title.

I just bought a 2019 zx6r with 7,700 Miles for $4500. Rebuilt title cause it was a theft recovery.

Congrats. Theft recoveries are the best. I got one last year that was showroom condition. The dirtbag who stole it did a real nice job of replacing the ignition and gas cap. All it needed was a new set of keys. They key I got with it was pre-theft and only worked on the seat lock.

I agree that a clear title and a salvage title DON'T tell you the condition of the bike. However, a salvage title should not be sold for retail, and then if you're in a wreck where the bike is totaled, good luck getting the value out of a bike that has a salvage title. Do your research and you can get a good bike (clear or salvage) at a fair price.

With salvage titles it's buy low, sell low. Everyone I personally know who's made a claim on a salvage title bike has come out ahead. That's only three people but one of them was paid the full book value. Wrecking the bike was actually the most profitable day of his life. Not that he'd want to do it again.
