My buddy gave me his Sahara 3000 after he wore it out. He locks his drag down and just horses fish in. He ended up damaging 3 of the teeth on the main gear. I threw in a new gear set and now the reel feels brand new. Paired it with a rod and it’s ready for this season now.

I've been fishing Shimano reels in salt water for 20 years. I've had Shimano's from the older Sahara, Symmetry, and Saros reels. Now I have 3 different Stradics (FJ, Ci4+, and FL) and a baitcaster the Tranx 200. I've never had a Shimano fail on me.

Nice smooth spinning reel. Just watched another review showing this reel is almost identical to the Nasci except the Nasci has water seals where this one doesn't. 98% the same reel...different name.

Won’t fish anything but Shimano. My favorite reel is a $45 1st gen Nasci 2500. From 100 schoolie bass in one session to 13 lbs blues to jumbo porgies. Fantastic reel. Don’t get me started on the Stradics, Twin Powers, and Stella. Only fish Shimano rods as well. I have issues.

Awesome! I had a bunch of shimano rods, some of the best rods I’ve ever owned. But...it got too expensive to replace. I broke a ton of rods every year for a couple years straight. Depleted my shimano arsenal

Hey man! I’m gunna do a year end video of the gear I used this year shortly, however, if you’re able to find some holiday sales for the latest model of shimano nasci, 2500-3000 series, I’d highly recommend those as well. They’re basically the step up from the Saharas. Good luck!

I think the new NASCI is one of the best reel from Shimano. I love this reel. I use it with Shimano SEDONA spinning rod.

@@GetReelBassFishingthe Sahara and Nasci have the same part numbers for all parts except the winding handle and the water proof washers on the handle bearing, main shaft and the drag cap. They’re the same reel except the Nasci is much more water resistant and Saharas are advertised as not for salt water despite the dude fishing with one in the ad is in a salt water estuary! 😅

How is the BassX for bucktails and small metals? Thinking about upgrading my beach fluke rod

Depends on the action. This one, I’ve used 3/4 oz bucktails. Depending on the thickness of the hook on the bucktails, this rod may not work. I use this rod with lighter wire hooks and it’s awesome. I’ve thrown 6inch SPs with 5x strong trebles on it and it works great. A 1/2 oz bucktail may be a good size with this rod though too.

Shimano is one of my top brand when comes to fishing gears, I know it may sounds a bit biases, but that just me, plus I just pick up the new 2022 model of the Sahara reel

I would not recommend that. Even the 4000 is a little small. I have a 4000 size on a 7’ MH rod and I think an 8ft would be the longest I would put it on.

My problem is this I love Shimano I have Shimano Corrado‘s I have the bantam, I have the Corrado OK I have the 70 HG and the 150 I fish all Daiwa reels bait casters on my tournament legend Saint Croix bait caster jerk bait rod and I have me a jig and worm rod both by Saint Croix I have a Tutuila 8 to 1 gear ratio

Who would think an $80 reel is trash? A $20 reel sure but you’re taking almost $100 lol. Sure reels get a lot more expensive but that’s novelty/luxury.

Wait, a $70-80 reel only has 4+1 bearings? And look at that bail wire, it’s so thin and flimsy. I don’t think it comes with a piston / clicking bail system. For $70-80 you can do much better. The Quantum Throttle($60) Lew’s Mach I (50-60) PFlueger President ($60) hell the $40 PFlueger Trion is better than this reel.

You go and copy and paste this, I’ve seen this comment, word for word on another channel. 😅 I didn’t comment then but I will now. Since when was bail wire that important, it is not used to catch the fish, the line guide does the heavy lifting. No one has complained about it ever failing! What is wrong with 5 bearings? One on the handle and the rest on the pinion and main shaft, that’s enough. Cheap Chinese reels have 10 ball bearings, do you think they’re better?

@@teeanahera8949 actually, if you look up reviews, people complain that the bail wire bends really easily and the reel is actually 3 + 1. It’s four bearing system. So that mean you have a bearing on either side of the main gear, and two supporting the pinion gear, one being the anti reverse gear. So you don’t get a bearing in the line roller or handle. And you can buy this exact reel with 2+1 bearings, same frame, bail, spool crank arm, stronger gears for only $30. That reel is the Shimano Siena. The Sedona and Sahara are rip offs. They are the exact same reel as the $20 FX and $30,Siena but with weaker gears and one more bearing. Thats not worth $60-70 more.

@@teeanahera8949 and yes, you’re correct I did copy and paste this comment on a few videos. I want people to be aware that Shimano is ripping you off. You can buy the $34 Ozark Trailer OTX reel that is far better than the Shimano Sahara and Nasci. I have own the OTX for three years now and feels just as good as the day I bought. I can not say that about the Sahara I bought around the same time. That’s why I don’t own a single Shimano anymore.
