I wish I had money, just a normal amount of money. It's hard when you're living at poverty level and hearing people say 'It's only $300," when that is something you'd have to save for 6 months to buy. Sorry, just venting. I pretty much agreed with you on everything, especially the square coffee table that no one can reach!

Hi I am a potter! The crack you notice is an effect of the glaze and intentional, it's called a crackle and completely safe. Probably their attempt to make the peice look aged. Anything labeled stoneware, earthenware, or porcelain is ceramic, just like how something might be labeled oak and still be wood-- they are just types of ceramics. If you cannot afford to buy from a potter in your area (or it doesn't suit your style), I urge folks to thrift dishware. While ceramics are fairly environmentally neutral once they exist (compared to things like plastic or treated bamboos that might leach over time as they break down), they are reasonably carbon-intensive to make and do not break down unless intentionally pulverized. In addition the conditions "fast furniture" ceramics are produced in are very harmful for the workers and can cause fatal lung conditions/chemical poisoning. There are great ceramics at the thrift store, and you can find really special work by artisans online or in your area super easily!

As a potter, I really would appreciate advice from you. I just thrifted a butter bell that I love, but it has some cracks I didn't notice and when I keep it submerged in water the water seeps into the ceramic. Is this safe to use? I feel the water will hurt the ceramic and I am not sure it is food safe... and if you have any ideas if something like this could be fixed I would appreciate the advice 🙏 It cost me only $3 and I'm not in a position to invest a lot of money in restoring it, but it is so cute it will be a shame to throw it out 😔 Thank you!

@@aliplay5 if a ceramic is chipped or cracked, it isn't food safe. The person above is referring to crazing which is part of the glaze and not cracks in the clay body.

@juliasaldana8815 11 ай бұрын
@@aliplay5 Yes, the other rely to your comment is completely correct-- you did absolutely the right thing by checking if the water is seeping into the body of the clay. I would keep it as a decorative object and look for another one! You are still safe to store dry goods etc in there if you like.Would be basically impossible to repair unless you could find the original maker and have them reglaze it, which in itself would probably change the surface of the pot.

Same but everyone has a different style and isn’t that beautiful? How sad would the world be if everyone’s house looked the same? Also, her commentary on interior design is based on her personal opinion and preference. I often see her critiques be on how she would or would never do something. I think her couch and chairs are hideous but other aspects of her home are lovely. You’re never going to please everyone. As long as you’re challenging your style and love it that’s all that matters. You’re the one that has to live in your home, not anyone else.

hi Paige! you didnt ask but the rug you are talking about at 16:16 and also the "girly" one in the beginning with the flowers is a swedish/ scandi weaving technique called röllakan! search for röllakan rug and you will find sooooo many wool rugs with geometrical ish patterns. can be a bit pricy because they are usually vintage and always 100% wool but if you are looking for a thinner rug this is the way to go :) (dont know if the technique is originally swedish, i think craftsmen from the middle east brought the tradition here in the 1500th century or so and since then it has become incorporated in the swedish weaving tradition)

I've never considered Victorian-style decor as particularly feminine, so now I'm curious: what is considered "feminine" and "masculine" style in decor? You've said this several times and I've also seen other interior design people use these descriptors, so it's clearly a really common way of talking about design. How rigid is the definition of "feminine" and "masculine" in decor? Like "mid-century" and "Arts & Crafts" and "farmhouse"? Or more like... "modern"? At first it seems like everything ornate/colorful = feminine, everything simple/muted = masculine, but then stuff like William Morris is pretty ornate but doesn't feel that feminine? Anyway, don't want to be one of those people who say "You should make a video on this!!" but if it's something that interests you, would love to hear your thoughts if you ever get a chance!

I think the bed in particular with the floral fabric, curved edges and detailin in the wood might be considered feminine, however I think a lot of victorian furniture is super chunky/heavy and can feel very dark and masculine too. I'm really nerdy about that stuff too and I would say that there's no formula for that. It's just a matter of spending time doing it and being curious. Three things I would do to get better at searching is 1 - Going beyond the surface level: If, for example, Paige recommended an ig account to follow. You can look up for the people that this person follows. If they shared something from other creator, go and see whats that about and what that third person is doing/sharing. You'll certanly find something cool. 2 - Go find inspiration in other platforms. Maybe reading a magazine can lead you to finding a different store/product/creator and that can get you to accidently find something cool. 3 - Follow the people behind the brands. If I'm into a fashion brand, I'll go and folllow the creative director, the photographer, the makeup artist. That leads me to finding more and more cool stuff. If I read a good interior design magazine, I'll look up to the person that writes it, that directed the content.... I think you get it. I work in the fashion industry (art direction to be more specific) and I do those 3 things all the time.That's what gets me to find fresh and cool stuff for inspiration

You didn’t ask but I’m a potter and I couldn’t resist… The little cracks you are referring to in pottery’s glaze surface are called crazing. It is technically a glaze flaw, caused by a mismatch in the shrinkage rate of the glaze compared to the shrinkage rate of the clay during firing, although sometimes it’s purposeful (sometimes people even rub India ink into the crazed surface to make the cracks black and contrasty). It is not good for drinkware or dinnerware bc it’s hard to clean food out of those cracks and therefore not considered foodsafe by many potter’s standards. But it’s very common in cheap manufactured pottery unfortunately!

On the patreon - I'm based in Australia and not the US so I probably wouldn't be so interested in that resource (as I've found most smaller places won't post internationally, or if they do it's 3 times the price of the object). What I would be interested in is a subscriber WAS, because I don't have the same time zones as the US and the sale window would often be a like 3am my time. And decent international shipping prices. So yup that's me! Another patreon thing that would certainly help is specialised object design advice (AKA not interior design per say but cool things to put in a space) but I know that that is worth a lot of money.

Could you do a video about lamps. I don't understand that object...I always find them kind of not pretty. But when it's well used in a space I like them. I just don't know how to choose them.

Thank you so much for this video and for your insight! If you do make a master list, I would love to know where you get services done in LA like upholstery! Thanks for reading this.❤

Instead of the CB table try a piano stool. I have one with ball and claw feet and it’s perfect for a few books, and room for beverage. Think I paid twenty dollars for it…

5:44 Where I’m from, parents don’t often have extra furniture that they can give to you when you go to college lmao Of course rich people do, but not the typical middle class families. That’s privilege you maybe hadn’t thought about

Common, cheap furniture? Anybody can have those to spare. I just gave away a lot of cheap furniture I had to some relatives and I am not rich. Not even close.

Those Danish handles are sooooo hard to use if the slide door sticks at all your finger slips and you end up stratching the finish with your nails....very frustrating
