In this video I discuss the pros and cons of buying used bowling balls while testing out a used RST X3 and ZEN Global that I found on Facebook Marketplace for just $50 each.

Glad to see a video about us bowlers that purchases used bowling balls. The majority of my arsenal is used balls. All purchased with only one prior drill. And I love what I have now: the Super Nova dull and polished. The GEM,, the Phaze II both dull and polished, the Code Black polished, the RST-X2, the Idol pearl and the only ball I paid full price for was the Hyroad pearl. That I hardly use because it’s for dry lane conditions. So when people ask me about my arsenal - I tell them I got them from EBay used and didn’t pay a lot of money. I am not a pro so why pay full price lol. Just love getting good balls at bargain prices 😎

@@reinaldogonzalez887 you’re right even if you had to get it plugged and re-drilled can you buy the low low price? You can still save a good 50 bucks maybe even more right now I’m bidding on a used radical deadly rattler on eBay Pro shop wants 210 that’s including everything so hopefully I’m gonna save about 50 maybe

I usually buy used balls that are drilled similar to what I drill with a span the closest that I can get. It's the best way to "demo" a ball i think.

Great Video!!! Most people can not get away with using the same holes, and when you have it plugged and redrilled that cost plus the ball usually adds up to 50-70% of the cost of a new ball. When you start approaching the upper end of 70% I shy away from it. However, when it is a ball that is discontinued, an undrilled ball can be more expensive than getting something in the current lineup. I have had several used balls and it has been hit or miss if they worked for me and my game, so giving the ball a try and only having $80-100 into it is a lot less risk than spending $200-250 on a new one. For me I had a used Reality that turned out to be one of my best balls ever, I also have had a used Zen that I only matched up with in certain situations. I bought the Reality, Zen and a Phase 2 for $120, then another $150 to have them plugged and drilled for me, so that is $270 total for 3 very popular balls, or around $90 each....Even at that price those balls would have cost me AT LEAST double that price had I bought them new. I had an entire arsenal that I used for the first couple of years learning how to improve, all I had to add was a spare ball...I took the money that I was saving on bowling balls and got some lessons....I agree with you, it can work.

Radical Bowling - What happens when a ball is plugged - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bt6Ul6hmscDPaKM.htmlsi=88VHFTLDyZ51wxZw Plugging a ball does matter especially for those that are switching from having a Thumb to Not because the dense weight material of the weight block where the thumb used to be is being replaced with a less dense material in Resin. The plugged ball will not roll the same as a brand new one without the plugged spot, which is good to know if someone wants to replace a ball they bought used with a new one or even another used one.

I've bought some single drilled used balls in the past and some were great for me. A few back then were a Track Paradox, Roto Grip Outlaw, 900 Global Bank Roll, Track 505T, and a Storm Hy-Road. Eventually I went with new versions of these. It's a great way to see if something works if you're not 100% sure.

I love buying used bowling balls, especially if it’s a ball that I’m not 100% sure on the ball. I purchased my first purple hammer for $60 and instantly loved it. I beat that ball up for nearly a year and then I eventually got a new one. On the flip side, I purchased a used Dam Good Verge also for $60 and I hated that ball!!!!!!!!! After a few games I knew that ball wasn’t for me. That ball sat my closet for a year or so and eventually I sold it to a friend for like $30, I didn’t even care. I’ve been on the other end, where I purchased a new ball and ended up not liking the ball. I had a brand new Hellraiser Return that I got for $160, and ended up selling it for $90. If there’s a ball I know 100% I’ll like, I’ll go ahead and buy it new. So I do think that buying and selling used balls is good for the sport

@willieyoung7070 Definitely. It's also a great way for beginners to learn to build an arsenal and learn the differences in the balls without breaking the bank. I will be adding more used bowling balls to my collection soon.

Very rarely do I think anyone should buy a used ball for the simple reason that plugging it and re drilling, radically ups the dif to new number you can't predict. So if you like that ball and buy a new one, it won't be the same and even with the same layout you will not be able to reproduce the results. And with used balls you after re drills you will never be able to get what the ball manufacturers intent. The only time I would buy used is if I have the same PAP, and span to whoever had the ball before and I'm keeping the same drill, just changing out the finger grips and pitches for myself. If you don't know what I'm referring to about dif size, Phil from radical/and Brunsnick had a guest engineer who did a deep study of redrilled balls and their plug before and after numbers.

@machinethesun9243 I hear what you're saying here. You can, however, still get a good idea of how the ball moves through different patterns and how the coverstock reacts. Also, you don't don't have to buy the ball new. You can get the ball cheap and use it how it works for you, adding it to you arsenal where it belongs as is.

@@MADEYEBowls I think in the long run its more expensive to buy used cheap balls, and pay to plug drill and resurface than to just buy new balls online. I just watched 2 people make this mistake. One was a righty one hander who was given a free lefty ball. He paid to plug, resurface, and redrill - just to get something unthrowable. Similar thing happened to a lefty two hander who was given over 10 balls over a year, that he paid to plug and redrill. After a year, he got rid of them all and bought an entire new arsenal. The other demographic who really should never get used balls are slow speed rollers who really need low to med dif balls. You put them in something that ends up with a 058 dif and they will never be able to throw that ball with any success, and they will just be very frustrated. I've made this mistake myself and I'll never do it again, unless we have the same PAP and I want the layout that is already on the ball, and its only slightly used.

@@machinethesun9243 low speed. Low Rex maintenance needs high rg. Low diff balls. I had an exotic gem. In 14 lbs rg was 50. Diff was 52 and did great with that ball I bought roto grip wild streak used had plugged and redrilll. And actually did great. With it. So i bought a new one and did not. like it at all. I know the after drilling numbers change once it’s plugged and redrilled a second. Time I think that had something do to of me not liking the one at all
