I always get surprised when I see a reletively small chunk and only get 0.3 at max. Honestly most of the time I try to mine from the outer edges so there will be no crust, but it really depends on hazard level. I have one friend who just hits 2 or 3 times into a vein at random spots and leaves it there every time, kinda annoying when I get 10 more extra mineral from his mess. XD

I find that by not minning in straight line, but going in a bit of a zig-zag pattern greatly reduces crumbs without adding more than one or two extra breaks. Also, the crumbs you DO left are just little bits and pieces - far less enticing clean up, and far less likely to mistake for a full vein

If you have 79 nitra and can't find any more red on the walls, that's what lootbugs are there for. :3

Every time I lose a mission because of Nitra, it's always because all the veins spawn on the most ungodly high secluded corner of the map and both the Scout and Engineer are legally blind. I've never been at 79 Nitra and lost because of that. If anything, the most common Nitra related issue is someone issuing a resupply at the worst possible place in the whole cave, far away of any potential conflict and hard to spot.

If you don't strike at the center there'll be no crust to begin with. I recommend trying to maximize each hit while also sort of going along the edge in a zig zag sort of pattern. If a tiny bit remains, just leave it.

On deep pockets: I mostly agree, but there is one niche in which I think Deep Pockets is very useful, namely if you're playing as the scout, and are on resource gathering duty. As a scout, I almost never call Molly, since the scout's mobility allows me to get back to Molly relatively quickly no matter where she is compared to me. In fact, I can get out of trouble so fast, that with some survival perks, I can pretty confidently explore idependently for resources. With Deep Pockets + the armor upgrade, the extra 50% carrying capacity means there's less of a reason to return to Molly or the base constantly while on resource gathering duty, and in general, there's even the secondary benefit of exploring away from the group, that it tends to break up enemy spawns, with some of them aggroing towards the group, but others following the scout around, which takes pressure off the team, giving that as a secondary benefit of being able to stay out longer. At the same time, I wouldn't recommend it for any other class, or for solo play.

I'm impressed you got a whole half hour out of it, but doing a lot of the basic differentiation out of what the minerals are good for would help out some of the players I run across. It is, however super weird for me to see you mining everything clean, esp. after the objectives are done. lol Especially liked the "If nothing else, listen to this" portion. It's a good takeaway.

24:00 I disagree with that one, having Deep Pockets is huge Quality of Life upgrade in terms of saving time on lower mobility classes (so anybody that is not Scout). Why? Because I can fully mine some of the bigger veins and never go to them anymore. That combined with fact that after 4 players with this perk making 10 trips in total we end up in aditional 150 (or 200 with another +5) more resources in said 10 trips which can lead in faster "map completion". Less time spend on mining is more time spend on another activities... like seaching veins for more mining! Rock & Stone!!!

Surprisingly decent take, but I think that for most of the playerbase, we just want people to make an initial path through the ore that gets ~90% of the material. Like at 14:42, I would consider that to be very neat. So long as you take a moderately staggered path through the ore, it's probably fine. Most times people have an issue is when someone goes up to an ore deposit, gets 3-4 "perfect" hits with no overlap, and leaves 1/3 of the overall deposit unmined. I think the point about nitra breakpoints is a much more salient point to players' general improvement at the game.

I agree with the sentiment, but I do think that there's a skillful middle-ground: I've gotten good at offsetting my pickaxe strikes so that the edge of the mining radius hits the edge of the vein, and then doing that alternately on both sides of the vein as I traverse the length of it, moving my next strike diagonally, instead of parallel to the previous strike, or perpendicular to it. I leave any small specks that I miss, but that generally gets the vast majority of what in a vein, and I get at least about 95% of what's in the mineral vein. If you do this properly, you're essentially using 1.5 pickaxe strikes to get the crust while you're mining, since you're still moving your mining down the length of the vein, instead of 2 pickaxe strikes and "wasting" some mining radius by mining the same spot twice, just on the other side of the vein. I'd say that I get the crust with this method, but leave any crumbs, because they don't add up to a significant amount anyway.

Sometimes I break the crust for gold and nitra and morkite cause monkey brain likes mining, but usually I just mine in a way that leaves very little crust. Also morkite and nitra are things I like to mine cause they sound so good. For the crafting minerals and phazyonite I do tend to try to mine any larger leave behinds, but it’s mostly just an issue with bismor phazyonite and croppa. In short I do mine the vast majority of the mineral veins, but in the video you mining those tiny little dots pained me, I definitely ignore those tiny crumbs, but then later in the video there’s definitely some larger crumb bits left behind that I would hit, so an in between of the two shown here

One of my most memorable games was an elimination that was insanely nitra starved, where we spent 30 minutes running around the cave with no ammo and 79 nitra looking for crumbs while being chased by a dread. I ended up dropping out so my buddy could join in my place, fully stocked with ammo, to finish the dread so my homies could get a W at least. This amusing experience would not have been possible if we were too thorough with mining.

Actually, for the nitra thing, once i was in an elimination mission, we had 1 last dreadnought to beat, and we had 79 of nitra. We were 3 ( 1 of us was trying to reconnect to our server ). We were there for 1 hour and 10 minutes. At the end, we actually did it, but my God, that was wayyy too long. Im not saying that you should get everything, but still...

Okay but its still pretty satisfying :) so i will continue doing so But on a serious note, ive started just mining in Zigzag pattern as it usually just gets me pretty much everything with like a couple more swings than going straight

the way i like to mine gold is to do two normal swings as im moving past it and a power attack while still moving forward.

A lot of the reason I mine the crust is OCD. I can override if I'm in combat but if I have the time to spare - as an admittedly slower, more methodical sweep n' clear type of player - I will try to clean out a good portion of it just so it's not messing with my bizarre sense of what 'thorough' is.

OCD reigns supreme over all

With the permanent minerals (especially the ones used for crafting) think of it as cumulative over say, a day worth of playing. Crusts are usually worth around 1-3 of the respective mineral. Say you mine around 5-8 veins per mission, that’s anywhere from 5-24 of the respective minerals you’re missing out on. Now say you play 8-12 missions in one gaming session then you might start to see just how much you’re missing out on. So I’ll always try to mine as much crust for “permanent” minerals as I can. Of course it also depends what your priority is, you might be trying to speedrun to grind for XP, or just want to complete missions for assignments and are less worried about the minerals you gather.

Me I always pick veins atleast decently clean because I just hate seeing them

I try not to leave any 'crust' unmined, but i only actively clean up the crust when its the upgrade minerals or the purple cosmetic mineral (phazyonite or something?) so i can get that little bit extra for the hazard bonuses to make the most of. nitra and secondary objective minerals i grab what i need for objectives (since extra minerals dont seem to give extra payouts) or keeping 2 or 3 resupplies stocked up (closer to 4 for deep dives) since sometimes i have the extra resupplies purely to practice the 'supply drop kill' on dreadnaughts (which helps if im on a weapon loadout not exactly built for big single target kills, 'glares at rando-weisser')

21:29 The main reason I often don’t break the whole vein is because it would fall and scatter all over the place into all sorts of little nooks and crannies, making it nearly impossible to find it all (Hollow Boughs anyone?). If I leave it on the wall, I know exactly where it is and can come right back to it.

I have a serious and genuine question: have you ever tried a "minion build"? I mean, beast tamer on engineer with the rival tech swarm grenades and hawkeye turrets in solo with bosco. Counting the grenades and turrets as one unit, you get 4 minions (granted, the rival tech bee swarm has a timer and Steeve can die, but still). How effective is such a build in solo play? Which weapons, mods, overclocks, and perks would you bring to such a build? What are the weaknesses of the minion engineer? At what difficulty does such a build break down? Which modifiers are good and bad for this build? I've searched youtube and google, and the most I found was just people talking about managing Steeve.

You play game for fun yes? Mine them all make you satisfied yes? Then there's no reason not to.

I usually play driller do I drill up the crumbs just cause I hate to see them lmao. It’s just distracting sometimes and especially nitra when you’re desperately running around trying to get enough for a supply. I just take everything that’s possible even when unnecessary most of the time. Obviously not efficient but unnecessary. Won’t get crumbs for morkite and oil though

On the topic of Deep Pockets just wanna bring up that it can be really handy to run on Scout. Especially on larger caves, it’s a lot quicker to zip back and forth than to wait for Molly to climb all the way up to a vein on the ceiling, so it can be worth it to run Deep Pockets when you get a 50-60 mineral vein, preventing yourself from having to take a whole ‘nother trip back and forth from the vein. I think it’s also a useful perk to run alongside Pots of Gold, seeing as if you’ve got that beer you’ll be getting ludricrous amounts of gold to the point where that extra 20 storage will actually make a decent time difference. And gold with POG is definitely worth mining, haha

I comfort mine. I don't know how much extra XP it nets me for minerals mined and I don't really care, I just feel pleasure when a cave is stripped clean and knowing that I've squeezed everything I could from a mission. That's why I main Driller with Mineral Bags and Deep Pockets, with EPC for mining and C4 with carve radius, and Cryo Cannon so I can comfortably give up Born Ready. And that's why I hate Point Extraction, because I'm usually not fast enough to mine everything.

I failed an edd on the last lesson after getting to the end of the cave 2 morkite short and since then it's been the only mineral I always 100% mine

I usually use the top and bottom or left and right on ore so I always get the crust

i leave crumbs for when we have either down time, the next time im passing through or when i get bored as we set up a bunker, gunner or scout dont have much to do other than kill bug run around and mine minerals

The only time I completely mine everything is for nitra. Had multiple occasions where the cave gens aren't favorable and only gives you enough nitra just before a swarm hits.

I've always found the mineral bag size upgrade stuff to be the most helpful with some slight variance control personally. So if you come up to that nitra vein that's only worth 35 nitra in a tunnel, and you deposit it and then leave that tunnel and find 45 on the wall in a cavern, you don't have to back and forth that second vein. Deep Pockets tends to be major overkill though, and in team play or as the scout in particular it's often pretty minor even in the best case.
