< The United States has many problems, but most of them lack clear solutions, so they remain unsolved problems. However, one major problem that has a clear solution, in my opinion, is the US tax code. Please note that this is not a general complaint against US taxes, on the contrary, I personally believe that as a US citizen we get a lot of benefit from the taxes we pay and the IRS does a pretty good job of keeping everything in order, but it's a rail against overly complex, convoluted and incredibly inconsistent laws about how taxes are calculated that are so riddled with loopholes and free passes that they have become a pervasive injustice to ordinary Americans.
@Aless.D Жыл бұрын
< The solution: Throw away the tax code and come away with a much more simplified (but not necessarily different) tax system, mostly by removing most of the exemptions and exceptions that benefit very, very few. (In fact, although I'm no expert, I would estimate that 99% of the existing tax code does not benefit the 95% of taxpaying US citizens.)>>

Nonetheless,Singapore is genuinely convenience just like the guy in this video talk about. I can just take a card going outside for a whole day without taking a lot of stuffs. Plus the Singapore crime rate is incontrovertible low compared to the any countries in the world. Sg is multi racial & multi religious. Our National Language is Malay. Sg has 4 official languages: English, Chinese, Malay & Tamil. English is our daily working language. In schools, our children learn English as a first language and their mother tongue (Chinese or Malay or Tamil) as 2nd language. Hence, Singaporeans are bi-lingual. Singspore is not expensive to live in if you could integrate into our local food & dwelling culture. If you could rent & lived in HDB flats like 80% of Singaporeans and eat at our hawker centers, you don’t need the extra perks / allowances to your salary. At hawker centers or even some coffee shops you can get a plate of chicken rice at S$2.00 to S$2.50, local coffee with condensed milk at S$1.00. But if your lifestyle is strictly western steak, pasta at Western Restaurants & Starbucks coffee, then you will have to pay for extra costs.

Not every American could afford to live in SGP and not every inch of SGP allow more immigrant to join, unless you are an expat with substantial wages. Nevertheless, there is no street bagger and homeless people here. And easily accessing the paradise islands and highland surrounding SGP. There are 2 seasons, dry summer and wet summer...

There are great western food as well. But most neighbourhood places target markets are towards local taste of local customers. In business sense, which do they earn more from, western food to suit local taste or “authentic western food” just to suit foreigners?

Thank you for making such a nice informative video. I have been thinking about moving to Singapore, but I was just wondering how the healthcare system is over there? (I ask this, because the healthcare system over here in the U.S. is severely flawed and broken, especially with the price of prescription meds being so expensive.

I know exactly what you're talking about. My theory on Pizzas and Burgers is that a lot of restaurants are established by westerners from Europe and Australia who don't traditionally eat pizzas and burgers like Americans. The rest of the world doesn't have a tradition of specializing in all types of pizzas from flat, to deep dish pies, to NYC, doughy, etc etc. Even burgers aren't done properly by Australians, they'll make the beef very chunky and chewy (I guess to make it more steak like?). In the US, beef patties, no matter their thickness, will be fairly well ground.

What you said about Grandma's cooking is exactly right. Even the local dishes don't do justice to the dishes Grandma used to make - Curry Fish Head, Rice dumplings, Roasted Pork etc. Everything is so commercialised that the "love" is lost in the food and the only thing left is just.. ingredients, and condiments. Respect the core values of citizens of Singapore and you should be fine. We value social order over and above western (read: American) style human rights or freedom. Freedom of speech is based on the courage to be responsible for one's words or actions or both. We are western in outlook but deep down we are Asian and every bit proud of it. Singapore loves and appreciates our neighbouring countries. Please bear all these in mind.

You can request for no MSG when ordering food or just avoid place/s that have MSG pre-made food like l usually do when looking for daily meal. As for sanitation depends on what you are referring to. Two-thirds of Singaporeans have English as their "at home" language. Even still, don't use your home slang, speak slowly, and learn some of the local "Singlish" or at least the Singaporean interpretations and pronunciations of words. Food is not expensive if you eat as a local. Eat Western food and it will cost you a bomb, as almost all of it is imported. 24 to 26 degrees overnight, 32 to 34 degrees during the day- yes, Singapore is METRIC like almost the entire rest of the world- and year-round humidity averages 83 per cent. Okay. Pizza. Most of the popular pizzas use turkey meat where you would normally expect pork, for obvious reasons. McDonald's and KFC also have unique menu items for Singapore, but the usual favourites are there. #MyRights #My Freedoms #MyGuns all mean very little in Singapore. The common good is very much favoured over the rights of the individual. Boat rockers get slapped down pretty hard and fast in Singapore.
@garymoh48282 жыл бұрын
Well, daytime temperature from 32 to 34 deg, to some westerners might think that is not too "hot" because some of them live in places where the temperature could up to 40 deg in the summer but very low humidity, therefore their sweat dry up very fast. They did not consider the high humidity in SG where the mean annual relative humidity is 83.9%. Therefore the sweat will not dry up very fast.

Plenty of other Western style and not so western style places too... I absolutely loved the foodie attitude in Singapore... Will be experimenting living as a expat retired person once the borders reopen... cost of living? (just don't expect to own a car) about the same average as being on the left coast. Only negative is no long term visa offered... PR available, but you really need to be sponsored by a big business... otherwise, lots of border run trips...

Singapore treats foreigners differently. 1. You can't let your spouse stay with you unless you earn a v. High salary. During pandemic and even now, foreigners are not allowed to leave sg without risking job as per ICA. But others can do so! Smoking is allowed in HDBs! Your home gets filled w9th smoke there is nothing you can do about it.
