I think kingdom heats isn’t exactly a technical masterpiece but the game has heart passion a chaotically fun battle system with rewarding bosses and ultimately I have to say I really enjoy it. Weeby and fanficy absolutely but I think it’s a surprisingly immersive game . Kingdom hearts is a oddly satisfying game. I enjoy it

The kingdom hearts game series are my favorite of all time, that being said, I found your video being very realistic and correct, while I felt some things weren't fully true, well I had a different opinion than you, I still enjoyed what you had to say about what started my favorite game list and makes me appreciate fleshed out opinions of yours more. Thanks ingenious for working on an amazing take on a game I love.

With the sword you have less MP, more attack and learn more combo oriented techniques but you will also learn abilities that increase drop rates way too late like level 80 or something. The shield is the best, you get defense skills, decent mp, no Combo skills until way later but that doesnt matter and you get Lucky Striker early on which increase drop rate or rare items, which lets you unlock better equipment early or more easier and the farming becomes less tedious. The wand is probably the second best choice, you get MORE MP at the start and AT the end of the game you will have more MP and since all your special attacks and magic requires MP then this is perfect for spaming special attacks. You get Lucky strike mid way.

Kingdom Hearts was the first game franchise I fell in love with. It started when I was 6 or 7 when I got Chain of Memories for the GameBoy Advance. I never got to play the PS2 games until recently and I played both Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 and loved them. The soundtrack is the best I've heard and even has me emotional at times. And the visuals are great especially for a game from the early 2000s. I highly recommend playing Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts 2 as they are extraordinary games.

I was 10 years old when KH1 first came out. 12 years old when CoM GBA came out (The best version). 14 when KH2 came out. Almost 27 when KH3 came out. Literally grew up with Sora from childhood. No matter how old I get, I will always love and appreciate this game. Gonna play it with my kids once they get old enough ♥

Ok I am at the part of the Video where you complain about summons not being very powerful and I disagree. Simba and Genie make short work of mob fights. Simba can obliterate all heartless in the room in one fell swoop. Bambi drops tons of Mp orbs making him an effective way to replenish MP and if you play your cards right you can use him to farm elixirs. Ok I always choose the wand at the beginning. That means more Mp. More Mp means stronger magic and your summons last longer. But still summons are so dam useful. There unskippable summon sequences suck though. I give you that. I tend to summon in almost every battle and while I am normally the type that likes long fancy animations (fore example I almost never skip the execution sequences in Persona 5) even I got tired of them.

I personally never really used the block ability it was just easier and more effective to parry cause blocking stuns you and the enemy whereas parrying just stuns the enemy

Sora actually did say to the princesses of hearts that he will not return home until he found Riku and King Mickey. So the reason why Sora and Kairi where separated was simply that Sora decided not to return to Destiny Island with Kairi. In the end before Sora, Donald and Goofy meet Pluto Sora did say "We need to find King Mickey and Riku". The part with the door is confusing I agree on that one. I think I kinda know what was going on with that door but either way its poorly explained in the game.

About the items. You could use the feature called take out which is not everything you wanted but it helps mitigate the problem a lot.

I didn't start the game with casual mindset so i just explored everything and the game does a good job at giving you hints to make everything easier. had no idea it could be this frustrating for casual players lol can't deny about restocking the items tho I often just ignore the allies and let them die cuz why not xD

i disagree with the whole equipping items is tedious thing, as if you choose take out in the menu when going into the menu, it will automatically equip whatever the last thign you were hovering over and you can select that or quickly go to another item and spam equip that instead of scrolling all the way down to stock and equipping them from there.

I picked up the PS4 Kingdom Hearts All-in-One and have just completed Agrabah and decided to stop by YT to see what the general opinion of the game is now. For some reason even though the game is 20 years old, it bugs me that the story has now been spoiled for me after watching this, lol. I’m having fun playing so I guess I’ll keep going, but lesson learned for the next titles.

KH1.5 was the first game I ever platinumed and KH2.5 was the second. (Edit: KH3 is officially the 3rd!) Tinkerbell is OP and the only summon I ever used and thanks to the damage floor of a level 1 run (I'm not that crazy) Mushu becomes OP in that mode. Even in Proud I never used items after I got Cure. I appreciate KH1 for what it is, but KH2 has got to be the most solid of the main trilogy. Looking forward to the next video! (Hope you played it in Critical!)

My biggest pet peeve for an RPG is it punishing you for leveling up or for leveling up early. I love the Final Fantasy series, but it's actually quite the recurring theme among FF games. Your maximum stats are usually gimped if you grind too much early game. The FF games that I know of that are guilty of this are FF1, 2, 6, 8, and 9. In the case of FF8, leveling at all is objectively considered a bad thing and actually makes the game harder even if you do get GFs with level bonuses later on.

The answer is yes. It's absolutely worth playing! (especially the sequels)

In the first kingdom hearts you can take off the auto lock so you can be more precise but to do certain moves you'll have to use the lock on like the slide in to attack

Floaty wasn't used to describe KH combat until KH 2 and beyond. I actually think KH 1 had a very rigid combat feel to it, the opposite of floaty. The "floatyness" of the combat as the franchise progressed is actually one of the biggest complaints fans have with KH overall. I really wish the later games kept the more rigid, deliberate combat that KH1 had.

just beat kindgom hearts hd 1.5 again recently. Still one of the best action rpgs out there. I love the combat so precise.

Even if I find p[laying the games a bit difficult nowadays I'll never forget first playing the series. Also the music is some of favorite in video games tying with Zelda for #1. Traverse Town and Lazy Afternoons are two of my favorite pieces of video game music ever.

I just completed a Level 1 run of KH1 - the counter to Invisibles is Stop + Gravity

Basically: Despite its rough edges, YES, ABSOLUTELY YES.

I feel this review glosses over a ton of stuff. I get it, a lot of the systems take a certain amount of engagement to figure out, but in particular there wasn't any mention of timing strikes to get faster combos, short hopping to access your faster safer air combos while allowing yourself to use it on grounded enemies, or even negative things like how finicky the lock on system is. Summons can be incredibly useful as well. Genie can effectively solo Maleficent for instance, and while the item equip is awful, staying in the order you equip them encourages you to plan, and seeing your guesses save your life on proud mode is infectious. Also the story is definitely short sold a ton, almost referred to dismissively. Granted its pacing isn't great but when it pops off it really pops off, despite some wonky voice acting. The Kairi scene is built up to from the initial outbreak on Sora's island, and I feel it was one of the beats they really pulled off. Just my thoughts, though. Needed something to type out on break.

I bought the final mix recently and after arriving at the town where the game actually starts i found myself kinda bored, though a friend of mine told me that it would get better later on, andnow here i am, hoping to hear you say that the game aged well because if not i'll be a little disappointed

One thing that is only briefly touched on in this review is just how bad KH is at teaching players its mechanics. There's a layer of obfuscation to not just the build choice at the start of the game, but also to my understanding in choosing difficulty levels and level-up timetables, and multi-step actions fiddling in the menus for things like item and ability equipping are the norm rather than the exception, with essentially nothing in the way of guidance on how or why to engage with them. Heck, even the existence of the equip menu at all is somewhat obfuscated, as immediately after the game tells the player it exists, the game spawns in a bunch of enemies, which turns the menu into the non-interactive pause screen instead. This was my first RPG, back in the day, and it put me off of the entire genre for years, for a number of reasons, but not minor among them were the little "gotchas" like realizing that the dodge roll ability when acquired didn't auto-equip, or halfway through the game figuring out what "sacrificing the wand" actually meant, and realizing that it meant I didn't have enough mana for healing, and couldn't even get more because the build choice affects the stats of the weapons in the game as well as the player, and just a general sense that the game was hostile and impenetrable, and all progress was just flailing at it until things died.

to anybody doing a proud mode run or will in the future tip number one in the maleficent dragon boss fight do 1 or maybe two combos and run away if she summons the fireballs just run to a corner in the map none of her mover will hit you and you will be able to parry the fireballs no problem the invisibles my number one tip use gravity spell it can be hard to hit but if you do it will either kill them or leave them with little to no health good luck guys oh and if you keep having trouble just search on the internet about a glitch that you can do with zero exp skill activated it can help with harder bosses for me I used it with kurt ziza and sephiroth and it got me through those bosses going through it really quick with zero exp activated you take less damage because the game will take sora as being level one so instead of being one shot one attack from a powerfull enemie will take like 1/3 of your health and your aerial combos do mad damage plus if you activate a summon after an aerial finisher you do 2x the damage with the summon that's how people in lvl 1 runs do so much damage and defeat bosses in a matter of secounds

So, I've been watching a but of your content, and the hollow knight April fools video sent you here, and I must say, I respect and appreciate how objective you are, and it's interesting to see a perspective from a more casual player. I've played Kingdom Hearts since 2008 and found myself agreeing with a lot of what you were saying, you pointed out its faults but also praised its best parts, and while there are certain things I disagree with (can't say I've ever heard anyone call Kingdom Hearts 1 floaties, usually it's the later entries like birth by sleep and dream drop distance) I still was impressed and really enjoyed the video. I watched some of your other content as well, you know how to be really objective with stuff especially metroidvanias. So let's just say you've gained another subscriber, can't wait to see more Kingdom Hearts videos if you end up doing them, the later entries get a lot better and improve on the systems of Kingdom Hearts 1.

While your review is thorough and I agree with exploring all aspects of the game (both good and bad, which I also understand is subjective); I do feel like you were nitpicky about many things. My review on this game will always be a little biased since it was a big part of my childhood as well as growing up watching Disney movies like most, if not all 90's kids. This game is honestly a masterpiece. Not flawless...but still a masterpiece. You have to take into account the target audience here, which definitely wasn't grown ass men in their 30's. I'm not sure how old you are, but who else would you try to reach by throwing in Winnie the Pooh and Little Mermaid in a video game?. For it's time and considering the audience it was trying to reach, it did the job and did it well. Kingdom Hearts brought a mashup of characters, worlds & concepts people never thought would come together at a certain point in time and everything was so well executed (though I'd agree with you about the voice acting). Subjectively, I give this game a 10/10. Objectively, I'd give it a solid 9/10 for many reasons. A couple things that I appreciated about this game is the complexity of the story; especially for kids who played it at my age. As "kiddish" as the game may seem for having Disney cartoon characters, good luck following the story and timelines with ease, especially as a 12 year old. I've done a lot of reading and watching videos to put the pieces together. Don't get me started on the soundtrack....I knew that shit was gonna be fire as soon as the Title Screen started. It felt magical...like I was about to step into something I've never experienced before...and it was exactly that and more. The tutorial was also pretty solid. One thing that will always stand out to me was the ending cutscene with Kairi on the island discovering the drawing Sora made of him giving her a paopu fruit literally bringing me to tears. This was as captivating and intriguing as a game could get fresh out of the 20th century for kids my age at the time (I was about 12). Overall, this was a good review and I'm not mad at you for it, but boy do I wish I can experience this again for the 1st time.

I just wanted to comment on this because it's a false statement on 20:30 invisibles don't appear in any world except end of the world and olympus collosseum on the hades cup new enemies appear in every world after you retreat from hollow bastion with kairi at this point in the game invisibles haven't been introduced so they won't appear in any of the worlds now for an easy way to defeat the invisibles wait for an attack and after that attack animation use gravity and that should take him out to low hp so he can be finished with one or two attacks

I can get why you don't like the command bar to me I got used to it and I don't mind it as much

I see why you only get certain abilities at certain times. Think about if you had guard on the first boss. It would have been WAY too easy. It gets stunned anytime you clash. Blocking makes it easy and there's no risk

Quick point on the summons: Mushu does incredibly disgusting amounts of damage. Like, SO MUCH damage. He and tink are the good summons.

I played this game for the first time (on normal mode) this year and streamed it for one of my friends. I can say without a doubt: yes, you should play it. It's very fun. Ursula's fights are terribly designed, you can't skip cutscenes - which is awful, and the gummi ship maker is terrible, but everything else is great. Additional context: I'm 23, and this has become one of my favourite franchises in less than a year. P.S.: screw Chain of Memories.

Yes you should! KH was the first game I've ever completed besides Pokemon Crystal at the time. My older sister went to London to see my grandparents for summer vacation so I got to borrow her PS2. I was in Kindergarten at the time and I remember being blown away by the game. KH was the reason I put in so much effort in learning to read just so I wouldn't miss out on much. KH is an amazing game and I would highly recommend buying the KH remastered collection. I got it for $20 and that was a bargain considering you could play through every KH game.

I’ve tried playing kingdom hearts multiple times now, but could never really get into it. Which is a shame Bc I love Disney and I love final fantasy but idk just didn’t do it for me. Now that Sora is in smash it’s giving me the urge to try and complete it again
