I started playing Morrowind for the first time ~2 months ago and I've already poured over 100 hours into it. One of the best experiences I've had with a video game for a long time.

Best advice I can impart to any player, follow the main quest and make it your priority. When the characters say "hey I need some time to do X so go do some stuff" go do faction quests or grind killing enemies to raise skills. If you wander around raiding dungeons you might find quest items and not even know it, and could sell them or store them somewhere you'll forget about and literally screw yourself out of finishing quest lines, Including the main quest. Oblivion introduced the concept of quest item and essential character protection. Morrowind DOES NOT protect you from screwing them up.

I would just say don't explore the world unless it's through quests, the game is so open you can spoil it for yourself if you go peeking around where you shouldn't :P

@@ethanwasme4307 Or, more likely, get killed. I went on foot from the starting village to the first city. I went into every cave I could find. Most of them I went in, took 2 steps and got killed in one hit because the enemies in there were far more powerful. Same with some areas of the overworld. I tried going to explore, some enemy was in the middle of a cross roads and it killed me in one hit. Too many Morrowind fans claim 'it has endless possibilities'. They never tell you that those possibilities don't happen until you're dozens of hours in. Morrowind is from the era of games where a level 1 character is weaker than the average toddler. So nevermind story spoilers or missing out on context, you can't explore early on because the game simply won't let you. Unkillable enemies are just another form of 'this door requires a specific key'.

My first time playing Morrowind I went with a strong murder hobo play style and would just randomly kill NPCs to take their stuff. 100+ hours into exploring the game and friends are talking about the story line. I’m like; what story line, don’t you just wander and kill stuff? (This was 20+ years ago when my previous games were Earthworm Jim and Mario… games where you just wander and kill shit) They tell me to go to Balmorra and find Caius Cassades, he’ll start the main story line. So, I find the town, locate his house walk in and discover his dead body, laying naked on the floor, all of his belongings pillaged by none other than yours truly. 😂 Whoops! Guess I won’t be talking to him on this character.

After spending last year discovering Skyrim because of its modding scene, learning how to mod it (and how to merge mods to bypass the limit to do it), and essentially pulling a "flowers for Algernon," on myself by turning it into practically my dream game, I've begun having thoughts of trying out Morrowind next because of hearing about Tamriel Rebuilt, and having watched this video I fear I may be closer to becoming a Morrowboomer now than ever

I started with oblivion played Skyrim then years later tried Morrowind mainly due to the fact Bethesda doesn’t seem to want to make another game and holy shit it might be my favourite 0:40. Holy crap pretty much the same story Edit: Cool to see a small channel covering this game and making a quality video I’m one of the people who like the game without quest markers but only because the game was designed for it, it wouldn’t work in oblivion Morrowind is the only Eldar scrolls game were you literally feels like a god at the end of it. Your description of the boots of blinding speed is exactly how I felt when I first got them

Honestly, in my personal opinion, openMW nowadays is just essential to play this game as well as you may. Sure, it changes somethign so purist elitists dislike it, but oh whoopdie doo... it fixes the engine, makes high resolutions a easy thing, has a bunch of optional fixes and so on. And it's free so might aswell see if one preferes original engine with code patch and optionally Graphics extender, or openMW, which has a passable VR fork, and a passable android mobile fork...

What a delightful video, thank you for the content, this game is so amazing, probably the best elder scrolls game hands down. As far as any gripes a new player could have, there are mods that can fix absolutely anything a player could want this game to be, from modern combat l, to AI voice acting for the entire game. This game can even be played on an Android phone. For anyone who's willing to actually care about a proper role playing experience, there are no other experiences quite like this game. Thank you again for the video.

Ohh Morrowind, i loved this game like 15 years ago, spent many hours, exploring all over the island.....great times. I wanna get back into it, doing a new playtrough but for that i have to mod the game and that seems like an enormous task. So many mods, almost unlimited options in regards to what you wanna mod....where do you even start. Its been putting me of for years now to play it again :)

Also, as a fun fact, Daggerfall is the only mainline TES game to have you *NOT* be a prisoner at the start, instead being a "close friend" of Emperor Uriel Septim, where as iirc Arena has your character have a bit of backstory that, after the emperor is betrayed by Jager Tharn, is imprisoned, which is where you take over though this last part about Arena is simply recalling what i've read and seen of the plot of that game as I've not played it...

It also shows the flaws in having multiple endings in an Elder Scrolls game. The Warp In The West book in later games show this. Apparently they all happened, but also none of them happened, because of wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff. And then players get mad when their decisions 'didn't count' because it wasn't what future games chose as happened. Take Elder Scrolls 6. Assuming it is set after Elder Scrolls 5 (I don't see why it won't be as all games in the series have been set after each other). Who will have won the civil war in Skyrim? Will it still be ongoing in order to avoid that becoming an issue? Will the game be so far removed that the Skyrim civil war is a complete non-issue and thus it's never brought up? It's like when Fallout fans say they want a New Vegas 2. The different endings means there is no way they can make a sequel that takes that into account. The NCR winning will be a completely different outcome to Caesar's Legion winning, which will be completely different to Mr. House winning. Or they could just take the coward's way out of 'oh but after the battle of Hoover Dam this thing happened which meant that the actual battle didn't matter in the end' which no one will like. Mass Effect fans realised this in Mass Effect 3. Sure you get a lot of choices in that series, and they do carry over into later games due to how it was designed. But there is the key issue: your decisions don't really matter. Did you save the Rachni Queen on Noveria? Cool, she shows up again in Mass Effect 3, because you spared her life. Did you kill the Rachni Queen on Noveria? Oh well, that extinct race magically appears again in Mass Effect 3 anyway. That's what I think the main complaint with the ending of Mass Effect 3 was. It was the realisation that none of your choices ever really mattered.

I'd say the best way to explore morrowind is through its quests, try fight the urge to explore without a quest telling you to; otherwise you're going to miss a lot of the lore of the areas you're ransacking xD

The thing is, most (not all, obviously, the game does have its real flaws) of the "flaws" newer fans see with the game aren't flaws at all but that newer player not understanding the rules and systems in place with the game. No, you cant pick the battlemage preset class and then take the dagger from the census office and expect to hit anything... this isn't Skyrim, if you're not proficient with that weapon type you're not going to hit, as one example of many. A small animation of a deflection, or of a dodge would obviously do wonders in some regards to that (one of the biggest complaints I see about pre-Oblivion combat is "my weapon hits them but I miss") but without conveying the reasoning *behind* the reason these new players miss. Like I said, the game has its flaws, and I expect plenty of people who fully grasp the concepts at play behind the combat still loath it and are put off of the game by it and/or any number of things (including the aforementioned actually issues) but I feel like a lack of understanding of the basic character building and how each stat or skill actually effect combat, especially coming from Skyrim, and to a lesser extent, Oblivion is what puts off most new players, at least at first.

Pitch-Perfect. I genuinely enjoyed. Remember how much people complained about the walking speed in camp in RDR2? They are NOT going to like Morrowind. I have to confess that I would recommend all new players install the Combat Fix mod. The dice roll just feels too unnatural compared to modern games. But TBH, the thing that drives me nuts in MW the most is the sound of spell-casting. It sounds like someone held a microphone up to someone dragging their nails across a tightly stretched piece of slippery vinyl. I have yet to find a mod for that. Please tell me that you've played Gothic?

well its like you said its mostly in the comments, most youtubers I've seen sight the same problems for being a legit reason to pass on playing morrowind, this community has elitists of all types, the other day I was downloading some mods on nexus and some guy simply asked in post "does it work with openmw?" and he got berated by a bunch of no life having scoundrels just for playing openmw and not using script extender, even going as far as calling him selfish for even expecting it to be possible, that's just the world we live in, lots of no life having, self-hating, scumbags.

barely played morrowind this year and wow it really is amazing bethesda stopped making expansive and immersive rpgs after morrowind and oblivion, the other games are good but took out a lot of rpg elements
@henryhunter9643
@henryhunter9643 8 ай бұрын
Because the RPG elements, when handled poorly, can ruin the game. The last time I played Oblivion, I did most of the Arena, several quests and killed almost every goblin and rat in the sewers. I had gained several levels before even starting the main quest. And when I got to Kvatch, everything destroyed me. Because I had played the game wrong. I'd gained levels but I hadn't done it the right way. I also hadn't been dungeon diving to get the leveled loot. I'd played the game, I'd used the freedom it gave me, but I did it wrong. Morrowind is very much the same. If you know how the systems work and how to abuse them, the game lets you crack it wide open. But if you don't and try to enjoy the freedom the fans claim the game has, it simply won't let you. You have to play the game a certain way.

You say those boots triple your movement speed at 660%? 🤨 Not sure where you went to school but last I heard triple movement speed would be 300% 😂😂 Perhaps those boots have a 10% speed base line bonus and if that was true it would be 330% but there isn’t anyway tripling ANYTHING in the universe gives you 660% it’s impossible 😂😂…….🤔 but then again if you can find Hermes boots like in god or war 3 then my point would be completely invalid so maybe the boots your are referring to is Hermes?Buy even with those fast boots you can triple them but it’s only gonna be 300% so I hope the hell you aren’t a banker 🤨. 😂😂Sorry bored here can’t sleep was hoping talking about % then I would conk right out but nope……besides nothing puts me to sleep faster than putting one of those Michael Myers’s Halloween movies 🍿 don’t believe me look at this….Putting Halloween movie in now music started playing oh look there is Jamie Lee Cur ….🤤🤤🥱🥱😴😴 ZZZZZ
