Hi doctor 🏥 I'm planning to studying medicine. But to know I'm a veterinary doctor I graduated 2 years ago. I am one of the top three in my batch (3rd). In the first three years I studied (Anatomy, Biology, Histology, Physiology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Toxicology, Parasitology, Pathology). And in the last 2 years I studied (Internal medicine, Intrinsic medicine, Infectious diseases, Zoonotic diseases). We studied these sciences generally not deep. In the end I want you to tell me if all these sciences are going to help me in medical school or college or not. If it will not what I have to study before going to study medicine. I wish you reply to help me

I have a serious question. So to give a little context, I’m almost 20 years old, I live in Ontario, Canada, I’m someone who is studying programming at a community college and also programming on my own sometimes. I think I may be able to do coding as a career but I don’t know if it’s what I want in life. My grades in high school were not very good to be honest, I’m not really a hard worker (trying to change), and they were regular courses, no AP or nothing. I didn’t take Physics, Biology or Chemistry in Grade 11 or 12, I have been thinking about myself becoming a doctor one day, time and time again, but I just don’t feel like I can do it. And I know not everyone can do it, and there’s the “everyone is different” thing, but I don’t know. I feel like I would need to develop three things: 1: Dedication and Hard Work, 2: Be able to memorize a lot of information while understanding it at the same time and being able to apply it and 3: A passion for the specific field of medicine I would pursue. I was thinking I could maybe audit a few undergrad science courses for free sometime in the future (probably after community college) and see what it’s like and if I can actually do it or complete the high school prerequisites and then start undergrad. The only official credential I have is a high school diploma and hopefully this community college diploma will work out. Anyway, I would really like any advice. Thanks.

Hi! I think you touched on the most important 2 things (and really the only 2 things) you need to become a doctor. A passion for the field, and the drive to work hard. The passion actually produces the work ethic. But that’s really all you need. Everything else will come along the way as long as those central concepts are strong. I suggest exploring the field a bit more (through those science classes you mentioned, watching KZfaq videos on it it, etc.) to see if it is something you are extremely passionate about. And then base your decision off of that. Not necessarily if you believe you’re smart enough (because I am sure you are). I hope this helps!

If a person doesn’t want to pre-study, they gotta start considering why they’re so interested in pursuing a career in med school.
@EvolvingMedic
@EvolvingMedic 4 ай бұрын
I think some people find it helpful, and others find that it will cause them to burn out. I don’t think pre-studying dictates how students perform/study while they’re in med school.

@@EvolvingMedic well it’s representative of their interest/passion in the subject as a whole. Maybe they do well, but if they really aren’t able to spare an hour once in a while, they probably won’t have much passion later on.

absolutely love this content! question, is physiology taught more from a clinical or "book based", fact perspective? for example, would you learn that ossification is the process of bone growth, or would a more integrative question be asked during exams? thanks as always!
@EvolvingMedic
@EvolvingMedic 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Albert! I’m so happy you’re enjoying these videos! In terms of what you learn, you will often learn both the basic science behind things as well as how they correlate clinically. In terms of questions you can expect on exams, there are a few first order question that you may see, like “what does X do.” But the majority are more second or third order questions that are clinically based. For example: A 50 year old man comes in with XYZ symptoms and a history of XYZ, what’s the first line treatment you would employ? So you have to first determine what’s going on, then know the preferred treatment for whatever is going on. These are the types of questions that will be on your big tests like step 1 and 2. I hope this helps!

Did you have a basic understanding of anything before going into med school? minus the pre-reqs you can do during a pre-med, or did you go in "dry" lol I have anxiety thinking about all the specifics like anatomy which you talk about.
@EvolvingMedic
@EvolvingMedic 2 жыл бұрын
That’s a great question and a super common feeling! I definitely felt that way too. I didn’t know anything outside of what I learned in the pre-reqs. So completely dry lol. Some people will have more knowledge in some things than others based on personal experience or interests (i.e. students with masters degrees or spent time scribing, etc.), but things fore the most part even out over the first year or so. And you definitely aren’t expected to know anything
