Might want to consider looking into software that enlarges the image like ON1 Resize or a similar software. The software can enlarge and sharpen the image without creating artifacts.

Thanks! I think the title was confusing. Of course you can make excellent prints from 35mm. It has been done for decades, also by geniuses such as Cartier-Bresson. The question is what do be aware of with the digitalising and printing process. In the past, it was the paper itself that was photosensitive. I have very limited experience. Only from MFT in JPEG directly to 15x18 in an album by a lab. The results very good. B ut I don't know what scan I need from 35 negatives.

Hey there, yeah you may be right on the title haha Yeah it's all about the quality and size of the scan. I look forward to printing more and trying things out to see how far you can push when it comes to print size and paper etc.

my personal thoughts and everybody can do the own way ! I shoot film since nearly 40 years and i shoot digital since 2003. i print the digital photographs and i do all analogue things in my darkroom. Developing film, and exposure on photopaper , BW and colour. Wyh not " printing " film? to shoot with film means for me that i want an analogue procedure, an analouge look, an analouge finish. scanning, maybe change the look in PS ! to give the film a digital look ? what for? thats not logical for me. crazy world, people try to emulate analouge look on pics with filters in PS or useing LUTs and when they make analouge photographs they scan and finish it in digital ways. even when only changing sharpness it is to much for me, it has to be the sharpness of film, the sharpness of an enlarger ( analog) , the sharpness of the photopaper, not more.... greets BM

Hey there. I totally get what you are saying and to be honest it does make sense. The process has definitely changed and does take away somewhat from the whole film experience. I think the main reason is just speed. I would love to try the darkroom process at some point but with how work is currently shared online it would be impossible to do everything this way. Film for me is definitely a slower more satisfying process and that's just me doing the actually shooting process. I think digital is getting to a point where it is almost to easy which may be why people are getting back in to film again. Who knows haha Cheers for sharing your thoughts 👍

yea i agree with you. I do all processing analoge! Just yesterday i spend 4 hours in darkroom to print out photos of my film. Whats the point shooting film and then scanning with dslr camera to get digital output! Nonsence! Shoot digital in the first place!

I think most 100 iso films are somewhere in the 20-25ish MP range. I assume if the lens is good quality you can get a rather large print. might be grainy but then again viewing distance is a factor.

Cheers for the info I didn't look in to it in that much detail but the print looks great and could definitely be printed bigger, as you say viewing distance is important.

What do you ask for when scanning your film?
@MacnTeensVisuals

I just get high res tiff files. I don't ask for any particular look. The lab I use has just got consistent results that I really like.

I shoot 35 mm a lot. I easily print at 24”x30” with really great quality, especially when you flatbed scan.

I think you are seriously short changing the image. A scan on a PM tube spot scanner would not add noise or digital artifacts. Though pricey, an analog scan or a proper darkroom print will bring out a lot more of the true character of the film.

Hey Gordon, honestly I don't really even know what a tube scanner is, similar to a drum scan? I would love to try a dark room print of one of my photos at some point, hopefully in the near future.

Did you think about buying some printer something like old good canon 100p??? Great job 👏 not many photographers are now printing a photo. I like holding photo and feeling paper make me feel proud 🥹
