As long as you get the work done, but this is a slippery slope also are you actually disconnecting what happens when firms say well. Our world of work is flexible enough that you can vacation in between work now they start removing a compensation of PTO because now it’s flexible this is another point with unlimited PTO that I’m against, it’s just a way for them to F you over and give you additional compensation. Overall, I do agree as long as you get the work done doesn’t matter, but what does a bigger picture look like once corporations try to exploit this as they always do.

What you will find with most comments is, it's not about getting the work done and being productive, it's jealousy because all these are white collar professions. Blue collar and face to face service workers do not like this regardless of whether the work is getting done.

I’m with Ken here. Worked in two different companies post COVID and let me tell you, the only ones that work from home are supervisors, managers, and HR. The truth is we are being taken advantage of, paid poorly, and have to frequently cover remote workers slacking off because they want to vacation, but not work for it. My department requires hands on works, but those “working from home” leave early when the work isn’t even done and when they come back next day, they start where they left off making a ton of errors along the way. I’m calling it as it is, this generation of remote workers lack work ethics and suck.

If companies have no way of measuring productivity online, then that's their problem. Chances are, they don't measure productivity on site either so it doesn't matter what their employees do all day whether they be in the office or remote.
@eos_2366
@eos_2366 15 күн бұрын
@@cordfortina9073 the productivity is measured based on how streamlined production is on that day. If we meet our goal, we all get the credit, regardless of who’s working remotely or who’s working on site. In my specific field, you can’t do anything remotely because data are produced in a lab, not at home. What’s the goal of remote workers then? To just monitor and have someone reported to you while you’re at the gym getting paid 6 figures and everyone else is getting paid 70% less than you do? Note I was high up in my last company but I saw the BS of remote working of my peers, going to concerts and gyms on their time not the company’s time and hour of operations which is what they’re paying you for.

Well that’s the slippery slope. Currently all my coworkers and myself are tired of being overworked because we have to cover for these so-called “Work from Home” employees that are mainly composed of supervisores and managers and are using work time to vacation. They set the standards of what the bare minimum is and we have to cover them for slacking off. Guess who’s the one that’s getting paid poorly (surprise, it’s not the remote workers for sure). It’s only a matter of time till we start calling out the BS and another resignation movement will happen because of the poor leadership of these remote workers.

As long as the employee isn't exposing trade secrets, intellectual property, company finances, work product, client personal information, or employee personal information whilst tracking the states in which they work for appropriate tax reporting, it's a grand idea. Would you want your attorney's or accountant's laptop stolen with your personal information on it? Want someone to glance over and take a screenshot of your taxes? Your paycheck? A company's marketing strategy? Source code? Yes, a happy employee is a more productive employee. The company has to consider much more than work deliverables when considering working remotely.

Idk - how about you just go to Disney and enjoy Disney - aka a Vacation? The first guy just realized he could go to Disney and get some work done. But then he’s just thinking about “where can I sit here and work?” Just… keep vacation as vacation. This smells of burn-out. Yeah I’m probably jealous but I think if you are thinking about working then you aren’t either A - enjoying yourself and relaxing or B - actually focusing on your work. Too many people think they can multitask when, in fact, they cannot. I know the older I get the less I really can and my work suffers when I’m interrupted or thinking about too many other things. I need the focus.

I think that as long as your job responsibilities allow you to work remotely, you should absolutely be allowed to. You need to get your work done. I feel that workers that can work from a theme park shouldn't flaunt it in front of colleagues who may not be able to do their jobs remotely or others who couldn't afford to do this. Also, it does blur the line between work hours and off hours, so you and your employer should absolutely have boundaries where you can turn off, too.

I work remote. Every call, text, email, and keystroke is tracked. So is every break. I have percentage measurements I have to meet on each of those, plus productivity in the form of appointments and sales. So there is absolutely zero free time during work hours. My manager can video conference me at anytime to make sure I am at my station. Plus, our company does not allow us to work from laptops. I have a large company-supplied monitor. So while I can travel to another location--it must be a home office like set up during work hours. The plus for the company is no rented office space, I can handle work from all of our dedicated locations, I'm using my internet and paying for my own remote access tools--and they pay us less for the privilege of working remote. So we are a cost-saving tool for the company.

I wonder if people won't be forced to work from "anywhere" at some point. The United States is incredibly expensive. My husband and I don't want to retire, although we would like to slow down a bit. We're seeing geo-arbitrage happening, already. Many San Diegans live in Mexico and commute across the border, to save on living expenses. Same thing happening across the US -- people living in one state and commuting to another, to save on costs. I lived in Vancouver, WA for a while (no income tax) and would shop across the river in Portland, OR (no sales tax). Now, I live in rural WA, to save on costs.

A question came to mind as I was listening. Are they able to get all their work completed quickly because they are really competent at their job/role, or do they not have enough work to keep them occupied during the workday? If the first part is true, I say great. They are a really good asset to have and how can I replicate this to other areas within my org? If the second part is true, do I need a full-time employee to fill that role or are there other job duties that could be added? I understand that most white-collar professionals aren't 100% busy the entire workday and that it would be counterproductive to the type of work they perform.
