Dude. Thanks so much for these videos brother. I just bought my first one yesterday and I am about to spray for the first time. I'm painting warhammer miniatures so these videos are a major blessing. Preciate you.

I knew I needed to strain my paint but I only use a few drops at a time and the large regular strainers would literally waste 20x the amount I actually use. Your metal filter solution looks perfect. It’s amazing how many chunks are in the paint. I used an Eclipse and just got a Creos 771. First day using it the tip plugged. Couldn’t believe the chunks when I cleaned the nozzle even after cleaning well between colors. I suspect when guys say the have dry tip, it’s actually paint goobers (actual technical term😂) plugging the tip This looks great. Thx! Also, I try to clean the tops of the caps before dispersing paint with a cloth wetted with a warmed water alcohol mix. You’ll see chunks that get cleaned off on the cloth.

i have touched on that before.. Often people THINK its tip dry when it is clogging. and they are seperate issues caused of course by different problems. Tip dry is a fact of life.. clogging can be prevented.

The hardest part was rounding out the hole.. but honestly its plastic i used a burr tool from my dremel in about 2 minutes including cutting a bottle down. At first I thought I would have to heat up the plastic and shrink it. but they fit in the bottles so well i didn't have to bother! I did forget to mention they will filter for the small side feed cups as well.. just wont sit in them.

I always strain my airbrush paint--been doing it since the 1980's...except for pearls, micas, and metallics just like you say.

im afraid it took me a while to come around to doing it regularly :) Of course we got a lot better paint than we had in the 80s even so i still am amazed how much debris gets in there!

Great option! Sort of looks like a faucet aerator! Great review! Bill 👍👊

pretty close to the same, these are for pipes. most faucet aerators arent formed though and just the single screen. And definitely more expensive.

I've been looking for something like this. Thanks for finding the filters.

i like this a lot better than metal solutions... im not a fan of metal in my airbrush cup. I was stoked when I found these and realized I could use old paint bottles. I DO like the ones you can buy that clip on.. but at 15 bucks for 2 and knowing id lose them. this was the easy quick fix i was looking for. they are stainless so with rinsing they should last a really really long time!

Some nice ideas and good reasons there Bill. Like the idea of the cup filter from a mustard top. 👍😎

Purchased the mesh cup for inside the Createx bottle. Haven't tried them yet, but wondering about bits forming above the mesh cup, i.e. inside the cap, getting into the brush. Thoughts? Thanks for the great videos & interesting ideas for us to try.

yes if you leave the top open.. it will dry up at the tip. Actually mustard tips are pretty bad about small little bits drying up on them.... Not enough of a problem ill give up the convenience however.. BUT that is why i made a small secondary filter. and it really depends on if im doing ultra precise work if I bother with it or not. Every so often you need to clean out the mesh filters if your getting any large particles. But overall it decreases any chance of big dried blotches of paint from going into the bottle and coming back out. If your MUCH more organized than me... And close the tops and store them upside down the mesh filter will never get dried paint in it. But im not organized enough for that... That and I have a huge supply of paints that makes that impractical.

What about the craft paints that some people use in their airbrush for these pipe filters?
@TheAIRspace
@TheAIRspace Жыл бұрын
these would fit a lot of the craft paints as well. But the craft paints may be pretty slow through the mesh. many craft paints are pretty large pigment particles, so you would possibly need a more open mesh but of course you would need to check.

i was having a lot of trouble with burnt umber .. the airbrush keeps missing ..not a consistant spray..
@TheAIRspace
@TheAIRspace Жыл бұрын
depending on the paint used burnt umber is a naturally occuring pigment that can be a little thicker. However same things apply, strain, make sure the paint is mixed well. Keep the air on and make sure the airbrush is running right with no air leaks.

are these fine enough to work to strain paint that is going thru a .15mm nozzle?
@TheAIRspace
@TheAIRspace 9 ай бұрын
yes these are ideal for detail airbrushes. They are a very fine mesh , much smaller than the pictures would seem.
