Those happy tears you described were exactly how I felt when I was playing the Jump Up, Superstar portion. I started playing Mario when I was 3 and at age 21 when I first played Odyssey, that portion made me tear up and it reminded me why I love video games and especially why I love Mario. This format is a blessing. Game reviews had been a problem from the very beginning. At the very core of it, we have: "Fun is subjective". This was solved by unique reviewers, creating their own voice and cementing their preferences and values - aka, just being super subjective about it. But that created another problem. You played the game. Your experience is tainted by the way you played it, your opinion on that, and what you want people to think your opinion on the game is - all this shit is in the way of hearing about something. Because humans have a natural instinct for suspicion, especially when someone describes their own experience with something. It's not like we watch a review and doubt everything... but subconsciously, we don't automatically accept any individual's reporting of his own experience. (also because as an individual they have a name/reputation/character they need to maintain... and then there's us doubting ego/self worth being factors in the review...) But now there's this channel. A 1-person removed review of a subjective experience. We receive valuable/discernible information regarding gameplay experience, from a "clean" observation. Obviously the reviewer cannot be objective about it, but by removing one layer of "having a stake in the review" it makes listening and accepting this perspective as what it is - a better way to inform purchasing decisions. Ok, so it's that, and the songs are really fun. They're surprisingly well written. They're just "wayyy more than expected". They seem effortless, but I bet they took a lot of effort - my point being: they are worth it. tl;dr a gamer's opinion on a game is much less palatable than an observer's conclusions. the songs are great.

5:18 - I had to come back to this video and explain that Shelby saying "pop at the top" stuck in my head and I started saying it to my 5-month old when I would play with him and toss him in the air. So for a year and half now every time I toss my son into the air, I go "we go uuuup and then we do a little pop at the top." It's his and my favourite thing and it's due to this video.
