The town of wood carving in Inami, Nanto City, flourished as the gate town of Zuisenji Temple, a separate temple in Inami. The carved designs of Zuisenji Temple were a traditional Japanese art to be seen. In the Meiji era (1868-1912), the back streets of the approach to the temple were used as a permit area, and a brothel and flower district flourished.
