There's one another movie (actually based on a true story) that I'm interested in hoping that comes to Broadway. It's one of the most inspiring stories.... Rudy. It came in 1993 with Sean Astin. For those who haven't seen it, it's the true story of "Daniel Rudy Ruetigger", a young man who dreams of playing Football for the Fighting Irish at Notre Dame. However, people said he's a nobody, lacks the grades, and looks for making it there. However, he fights for his life and makes his dreams a reality. He was the only student to be carried off the field by his teammates. Just like Rudy dreams of being at Notre Dame, I dream of being on Broadway but have had people told me I was nothing. However, it doesn't stop me. Been training, improving, and continuing to grow in my craft. For me, I really want to originate the role of Rudy. He's the ultimate underdog.

just because something was a movie first doesn't mean effort wasn't put into it by the creative team and cast but go off i guess lol

nigel ratburn no im sure effort was put into the adaptation, however the mass flooding of adaptations in 21st century musical theatre calls for a lack of originality and franchise.

There is a vast difference between using material for inspiration and literally adapting a film for the stage. These days creative teams are beholden to iconic aspects of a film for fear that audiences won't like the adaptation. Rodgers and Hammerstein reinvented Lillom to turn it into Carousel but Honeymoon in Vegas was a prime example of the schlock virus infecting Broadway. Just looking at the promo for Pretty Woman the musical is daunting. Some very talented people are involved in that show but here is Samantha Barks wearing the red dress from the movie...so where is the artistic collaboration of the actress, director and costume designer? There are many original musicals which have been successful which are not based on a movie [Memphis, Next to Normal, Dear Evan Hansen, Book of Mormon, Company, A Chorus Line, Follies....] and when you adapt a book you always have to make significant changes. If you do the math and look at the movies turned musicals the success rate is pretty dismal.

I mean, at least it won’t be a trash adaptation because Tina fey wrote the book for this show lol
