He is one of the best(probably the best) of this decade but can you really compare him to the likes of Nesta, Maldini, Terry, Hierro, Koeman, Baresi, Roberto Ayala and Blanc? I just named a few of the previous two decades.

@@shreyams5770 speed/pace doesn't make a defender good. Positioning and game awareness does. Speed does help, but if a defender reads the game well, they won't need to run.

2:30 That Real Madrid had Roberto Carlos, Saldado, Halguera and Samuel. They were far than bad. The problem was the fact that the Real Madrid side of 2005 had Casillas in goal, those four above average defenders in defense and then 6 people up front that don't know what defending is. They were times that their XI had Robinho, Ronaldo, Raul, Beckham, Zidane and Guti. Simple desperation... Though the decision to get Woodgate instead of Samuel was a little bit ridiculous... .

Beckenbauer's probably one of top ten players of all time; he's got to be higher than Maldini. So, yah, you're probably right: Maldini is second and Ramos is third or at best second. I kind of see where people come from, though, because nowadays you don't think sweepers when you think defenders.

Injuring the former by practically ripping his arm off, and giving the latter a concussion meaning he was unable to save Benzema's shot and Bale's second (his bicycle kick Karius would be unable to save - concussion or no concussion). He should at least have gotten a red for either. How he went the entirety of 2018 without a red is beyond me.

Even if Ramos wins a fifth champions league, he still couldn’t be considered the greatest defender of all time, Paolo Maldini, franz beckenbauer, Franco baresi were all better than him, and champions league don’t quantify the greatness of a player since champions league are more useful to quantify a team effort than individual ones, individual awards and pure ability are what we can use to measure a players greatness and in that regard, all the above mentioned names are better than Ramos, Ramos is likely the greatest of this decade, but no more
