Hearing this again for the first time since the 80s confirms the impression that Jennifer Bate's recordings have aged better than many others of the era.

Indeed. She was maligned because of her marriage to GT-B, but she was a fine musician. Her Reubke was also excellent, and, IIRC, never made it onto CD... Bitte schon!!

Her Messaien recordings are still definitive, especially since she and Messaien were close friends. I heard her perform the complete Livre du Saint-Sacrement in Glasgow Cathedral in the late 1980s and it's an experience I'll never forget.

@@davebarclay4429 Agreed 100%. I also heard her play the Livre at that time, but in the RFH in the composer's presence. Likewise, unforgettable. Her Messiaen & Franck at Beauvais have withstood the test of time.
