Honestly its hard to pit them against eachother. I enjoy the third better because its got better jokes than the fourth one, but then of course the fourth wraps everything up neatly. Third has the jokes from 1 and 2 but shit story, and then its the inverse in the fourth... i guess all one can ultimately say is that the last two films just didnt match the quality of the first 2.

It’s an ongoing theme on his channel the 4th one is the real Shrek 3 and so Shrek is a trilogy. I completely buy into this thought because not only is Shrek 3 is shit, it more or less feels like a side story (and Shrek 4 recaps everything that happened between Shrek 2 and Shrek 4 in that baby montage perfectly)

Yeah, I've personally always loved the fourth one. Never got why people either hate it entirely or decided not to watch it at all.

I think the combination of 3 being so bad the series lost popularity and the faith of fans plus the story being a little over the heads of kids and dark, like really dark, gave everyone a Mandela effect of thinking it was terrible. And over the last few years people have been revisiting it and realizing it's actually a great conclusion.
