श्रीराम और रावण का युद्ध देखने के लिए अगस्त्य मुनि देवों के साथ पहुँचे थे|
उन्होंने देखा कि रावण युद्ध के लिये श्रीराम के सामने खड़ा है,
परंतु श्रीराम थके हुए और चिंतित है और युद्ध के मैदान में ही खड़े हैं |
ऋषि अगस्त्य ने कहा,
"हे राम, हे राम, शक्तिशाली भुजाओंवाले महान योद्धा,
हे मेरे पुत्र, इस शाश्वत रहस्य को सुनो,
जिससे तुम युद्ध में सभी शत्रुओं पर विजय पाओगे|
आदित्यहृदय स्तोत्र सूर्यदेव का एक पवित्र स्तवन है और सभी शत्रुओं का नाश करनेवाला है,
जो चिरस्थायी तथा अत्यंत कल्याणकारी है,
चिंता, शोक, पाप मिटाकर आयु बढ़ाता है ।
जिसका नियमित पाठ करने से विजय प्राप्त होता है।
देवता और असुर दोनों सूर्यदेव को पूजते हैं। ये विवस्वान नाम से प्रसिद्ध है, प्रभा का विस्तार करनेवाले, संसार के स्वामी हैं
जो देवलोक असुरलोक सहित सभी का पालन करते हैं।
ये ब्रह्मा, विष्णु, महेश, स्कन्द, प्रजापति, कुबेर, ऋतुओंका निर्माण करनेवाले प्रभा के पुंज हैं।
आदित्य, सविता, पूषा(पोषण करनेवाले), गभस्तिमान(प्रकाशमान), तिमिरोन्मथन (अंधःकार का नाश करनेवाले), शम्भु (कल्याणकारी), अंशुमान(किरण धारण करनेवाले), हिरण्यगर्भ (ब्रह्मा),
अहस्कर(दिनकर), व्योमनाथ(आकाश के स्वामी), अपां मित्र(जल को उत्पन्न करनेवाले),
विंध्यवीथीप्लवङ्गम(आकाश में तीव्र वेग से चलनेवाले), आतपी(घाम उत्पन्न करनेवाले),
मंडली (किरण समूह को धारण करनेवाले), मृत्यु, सर्वभवोद्भव(सबकी उत्पत्ति के कारण)
आदि नामों से ये जाने जाते हैं। आपको नमस्कार हैं।
पूर्वगिरि तथा पश्चिम गिरी रूप में आपको प्रणाम।
ग्रह-तारों के स्वामी, दिन के अधिपति आपको प्रणाम।
आप जय विजय के दाता हैं। आपके रथ में हरे रंग के घोड़े जुते रहते हैं। सब सो जाने पर भी आप जागते हैं।
उग्र (अभक्तों के लिए भयंकर), वीर, सारंग (शीघ्रगामी) पद्मप्रबोध(कमलों को विकसित करनेवाले) हैं
अज्ञान, अंधकार, जड़ता का नाश करनेवाले,
शत्रुओं का, कृतघ्नों का नाश करनेवाले हे आदित्य भगवान आपको बार बार प्रणाम।
रघुनन्दन ! इसलिए तुम एकाग्र चित्त होकर देवाधिदेव जगत्पति की पूजा करो|
आदित्यहृदय स्तोत्र का तीन बार जप करने से तुम युद्ध में विजय पाओगे|
महाबाहो ! तुम इसी क्षण रावण का वध कर सकोगे"
यह कहकर अगस्त्य मुनि चले गए|
यह उपदेश सुनकर श्रीराम जी का शोक दूर हो गया|
आदित्यहृदय स्तोत्र का जप करके वे धनुष्य उठाकर आगे बढे|
उस समय देवताओं में खड़े हुए भगवान सूर्यदेव श्री रामचंद्र जी को देखकर प्रसन्न हुए|
रावण के विनाश का समय निकट जानकर उन्होंने हर्षपूर्वक कहा,
"रघुनन्दन ! अब जल्दी करो"
Sage Agastya had arrived with the gods to witness the war between Shri Ram and Ravana.
He saw that Ravana was standing in front of Shri Ram for war.
But Shri Ram was standing in the battlefield, tired and worried.
Sage Agastya said,
“O Rama, O Rama, great warrior with mighty arms,
O my son, listen to this eternal mystery,
Due to which you will be victorious over all the enemies in war.
AdityaHridaya Stotra is a sacred praise of the Sun God and the means for the destruction of all enemies, which is everlasting and extremely beneficial,
Increases lifespan by removing worries, sorrows and sins.
Reciting it regularly leads to victory.
Lord Surya is worshipped by the gods and demons.
He is well known by the name Vivasvan, he is the one who spreads the light, the lord of the world, who takes care of all the lokas including Devlok and Asurlok.
Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh, Skanda, Prajapati, Kuber are the rays of light that emanate from him who creates the seasons.
You are known by names such as Aditya (son of Aditi), Savita, Pusha (nourisher), Gabhastiman (illuminator), Timironmathan (destroyer of darkness), Shambhu (benefactor), Anshuman (bearer of rays), Hiranyagarbha (Brahma),
Ahaskar(Dinkar), Vyomnath(Lord of the sky), Apam Mitra(creator of water),
Vindhyaveethiplavangam (one who moves fast in the sky), Aatapi (one who creates heat),
Mandali (bearers of the group of rays), death, Sarvbhavodbhava (cause of the origin of all) and many more such names. Greetings to you.
Salutations to you in the form of Purvagiri and Paschim Giri.
Salutations to you, Lord of the planets and stars, Lord of the day.
You are the giver of success and victory. Green Horses pull your chariot. You remain awake even when everyone is asleep.
You are Ugra (terrible for non-devotees), valiant, Sarang (swift), Padmaprabodha (one who makes the lotus bloom).
You are the Destroyer of ignorance, darkness and inertia,
O Lord Aditya, who destroys the enemies and the ungrateful, I bow to you again and again.
Raghunandan! Therefore, you should worship the God of Gods, the Lord of the World, Suryadev with a concentrated mind.
By chanting AdityaHridaya Stotra thrice you will be victorious in the war.
Oh Mighty armed one ! You will be able to kill Ravana this very moment."
Saying this, Agastya Muni left.
After listening to this sermon, Shri Ram's grief disappeared.
After chanting the AdityaHridaya Stotra, he picked up his bow and started moving ahead.
At that time, Lord Suryadev, who was standing among the gods, was pleased to see Shri Ram.
Knowing that the time of Ravana's destruction was near, he said happily,
"Ragunandan! Now hurry up!"
