hi there, i have a suggestion... convar - 7 its light weight. its waterproof/airthight packed. its good for at least 25 years. 1.99€ for 125gr(comes in 2 60gr bars) 125gr gives you around 630 cals. pretty dense and light and not prone to get wet like that powder in a zip😉 they have pnut butter,choco and multivitamin with actual vitamins in it. try at asmc.de or here on yt überlebenskunst.at from a bushcrafter guy named rainer in austria. he makes pretty good points on this. i wanna say, i watched your rucksack vids and what you said. made me go out today for a 5km walk in the woods...first time in 15 years. im that prime example you mentioned in your vids. since i went into a corporation in 06 i havent done nothing for my body. pretty stressfull job and always tired,turned me into lazy couchpotatoe with 35kg gained (comfort) fat on my body. before that i was working as a welder and now i have crunchy knees,wrists are not the best and my muscles just went straight out the window,because i dont do any pysical hard work for the last 14 years at least. im 47 now and(like you said)the body shows now what i did wrong in the past. high bloodpressure from stress and gained weight....im at 135kg now🤦🏾‍♂️ i just want to tell you,that you reached a person with your videos for sure. thank you sir🤝🏾 my feet hurt from walking around with all that weight but i feel somehow good. keep em comin👍🏾

While working as a house manager for a rehab center, one of the clients used to make smoothies with mass gainer adding fruit and nuts, milk or juice. I had never consumed anything like it. He would always make me a tall glass of it and I got hooked on it. It was so delicious. One of the foods I love to make on backpacking and overland camping trips is bannock using flour, baking soda, salt and water mixing the ingredients into a flat paste. Making the bread entailed either frying it in a pan of bacon grease, olive oil or butter or placing it in greased aluminum foil and placing it directly on hot coals. Top it off with peanut butter, strawberry preserves or just plain with butter and syrup. A bag of the ingredients minus the water would last me a week. Like the mass gain the bread mix weighed about a kilo as well in a one gallon freezer ziploc bag. Bannock, was a staple of pioneers gone by and I believe by adding one other ingredient you can make hard tack...sorry, yuk! I like my teeth too much. The story goes that hard tack made in the last century can be still be consumed safely today. There's a lady prepper who has a channel who comes up with some fantastic food concoctions that last for long periods of time, just cannot think of her name at the moment.

Nice. Definitely a better call than protein powder. As for taste, when hungry, pretty much everything tastes better. Peanut butter is great (and perfect bait). Adding a little honey to it is nice. Honey keeps pretty much indefinitely. We have used powdered peanut butter in the past also. It's ok... but calories.

I'd always take peanut butter over mass gainer, if taking only one. 1. You can just eat peanut butter, when injured, or moving, it's easy to eat while keeping your eyes on where you are going. Peanut butter doesn't fall off a spork, and you can keep it in your mouth a long time, making you feel less hungry. 2. Altitude. People who haven't spent time above 10,000 feet sometimes don't understand the very odd food cravings they can get, and a craving for fat is one of them. Peanut butter satisfies this. 3. It's calorie dense. You can't exclude the weight of water to make mass gainer palatable. 4. It's a great base for other survival foods. Add mass gainer to your peanut butter, add honey to your peanut butter, add butter to your peanut butter, or bits of chocolate or granola. Peanut butter is a way to get weight efficient calories with different flavor profiles because it works will with so many other items that have long shelf lives. I've found many people cannot eat the same thing over and over, even when they are hungry, and they require variety or they will not eat. I personally don't understand this, as I could eat the same thing 3 times a day for years, and while I wouldn't prefer to eat that way, it wouldn't be hard to do. Others cannot do this, they simply won't ingest enough calories without having a variety of foods or flavors. Peanut butter allows you to change flavor profiles much more than mass gainer.

Thanks for the maxxgainer info. I want to point out the peanut butter label you showed. The brand you bought adds sugar, molasses (sugar) and some other additives. I'd recommend a natural peanut butter that doesn't add sugar or use shelled peanuts in a vacuum sealed bag. Still pretty light without the empty fat calories of sugar

Fun fact. Your body can convert protein into carbohydrates, but it cannot convert carbohydrates into protein. That's why carbs are not considered essential nutrients.
@wisenber
@wisenber 3 жыл бұрын
@UCS7kyY9hqClnfIYreR5xvpg Much of it depends on how adapted one is to different energy sources. A person accustomed to higher carb content would probably bonk when carbs are cut. In contrast, someone more fat adapted would probably experience a lot of GI issues if they fell back on a heavy carb content. Either way, if you're not used to powdered food, you might spend more time digging cat holes than making ground. It's best to try to consume some of your emergency provisions of choice occasionally to reduce the side effects of the transition. The challenging part about fats is that most tend to go rancid without a ton of preservatives.
@thriftysurvivor6117

If you want to be lean, consume plenty of fat. It may seem counter intuitive but it's at the opposite end of simple carbs. Long term energy with the added benefit of keeping your body fat percentage to a minimum. Plus, fat gives meat nuts and avocado's... much of their great flavour. Peanuts are not actually nuts but they are very nutritious, contain plenty of fat and if you're like me, I love eating them. Peanut butter also often contains small amounts of sugar which though it doesn't make it the best for a quick energy fix, it can help slightly to bring your blood sugars up enough to keep you going. There is also the unsweetened variety but for survival, I'd probably not chose it. For survival, I prefer to cover both long term caloric needs as well as something to pull me out of a hypoglycaemia. Now I'm a type 1 diabetic so this may be more important for me, but when an athlete "bonks", they're actually experiencing a hypoglycaemia. This can also occur in a survival situation. Just my two cents.

I was thinking about gainers and went with whey protein and with calories in other forms. There's not much going on in there in terms of meal replacement, vitamins, good fat etc. Meal replacements are expensive AF and this is not cheap either. IMO most of the vitamins they list come from the whey protein. It's up to 80% maltodextrin - which is a hydrolized starch. You can mix whey protein with sugar, one multivitamin pill in the whole bag and get the same result. I occasionally drink vegetable oil as my winter fuel. I once tested a crazy vegan version of Pemmican which was just oat flour, sugar, salt in oil in a PET bottle. I could function on it after SHTF.🙂 Instant potatoes is a good hack but depending on recent potato price it's 10 to 20 times more expensive than potatoes. They are 79% water so one must calculate if it's a good deal. Of course it takes energy, equipment and labor to make it. If you ask me, I'd take a diy potato mash with whey protein over a gainer everytime. I dont eat meat much so a good fat (except butter, cheese) is a problem. I'd eat a sausage full of pig lard if I had to but I dont. Otherwise it's almost perfect. Maybe not in the summer. Peanuts 👍are much cheaper than peanut butter where I live. I use sunflower seeds a lot but peanuts have even better ratio of fat/protein/carbs. Even better than beans and you dont have to cook them for hours. I like beans but it's hardr to enjoy them without a lot of stuff like fried onion, tomato, spices and bread

The best survival food is pemmican which was a Native American survival winter food. It’s jerky preferably bison or venison mixed with tallow and berries. It’s has enough calories and fat for the whole day. Animal tallow is the best friend when it comes to fat. This and bannock.

Excellent tips man! I've had Excellent results with mass gainer. Honestly when it comes down to pack weight and the amount of space something takes up powders are the way to go. I've found a decent supplement store with honest staff and good prices. While getting back into work I've been using a mixture of my preworkout and Amino IQ in place of a fat ass meal and a bunch of coffee. It fuels me for the shift and keeps me alert. It's been a while since I got some decent mass gainer though, I'll definitely have to stock up. Nuts are an excellent source of fuel and a guy definitely can't go wrong with some peanut butter or Nutella.

You're absolutely right about the worth of nutrient-dense foods for survival situations -- but there's one big caveat that relates directly to the notion that "I could eat it for a year and be fine." Factory foods are likely to have some ingredients that are extremely pro-inflammatory and/or hormonally deregulating. And while chemical analysis may indicate contents of certain macro- and micronutrients, their bioavailability may be in question. Native peoples of North America used pemmican as a survival food during lean seasons and travel (but you can't buy it in the store and preparing it at home can be tricky). But quality dried meat and shelf-stable fats like tallow and ghee, along with dried fruits and maybe some desiccated organ supplements, while not cheap, are another option -- and the recipe options could be slightly better than those with mass gainer products.

Beef talo is the best. I make my own to make pemmican. I recommend staying away from vegetable oils because they will go rancid in a couple months and take your food with it. I get the beef fat free (now after paying for a few lbs/kg’s) from my grocer after developing a relationship with them. I vacuum seal my dehydrated fruits and vegetables, the trail mixes and yes, the powdered meal replacements. I determine quantities/portion based on per meal, daily or multi-day needs. I also determine portion sizes for trading or selling. Yes, it’s labor intensive but necessary. I keep an inventory spreadsheet of item, vacuum seal date, size then box 📦 and store. Same with seeds.

That crap might work for a few days until you run out of it, then what are you going to do for an extended time period like maybe 6 months? Synthetic stuff like that is not replenishable nor readily available. If there is only ONE vegetable to pick for long term survival it has to be the potato. They keep without refrigeration. They can be stored for months, and they can be grown very easily. This reminds me of the people that take their generator and their Nintendo out for a wilderness camping trip. LOL.

In the process of storing these powders, say you put a days worth of servings in food saver bags, then sticking these bags in your BOB, how long before they loose their value? You can either stuff your back with survival bricks and live off what amounts to a big cookie for a few days, or go with this powder. Putting some of this in your bag is a great idea, but if expose to heat, cold in your car, how long will it last or be safe for consumption.

That's a good question. I'd say it depends on the bag and conditions. I rotate this stuff all the time. Maybe a non-dairy version would hold longer

What would you say about beef jerky??? Caned sardines. Yea that’s good weight gainer is what most people call it . But whatever that’s a great idea 💡. Gonna start incorporating that into my inventory. Again jerky meats and peanut butter is great 👍🏼.

OK, I couldn't find that video on electrolytes you mentioned. I'm currently been drinking Body Armor because it's the only one that has zinc in it so far, though I don't know if it is an electrolyte.

Powder tastes artificial or at best crap. Peanut butter, raisins and salty biscuits made with wholegrain flour and yeast or sourdough, and you're good to go. An for fat; smoked peppered mackerel, full of omega-3 www.scanspecialties.com/products/peppermakrell-peppered-mackerel-by-sunnmore-of-norway Also delicious and can be eaten on it's own not just as a spread.
