Your hammock tutorials on KZfaq, as anyone on Hammock Forums will attest, are the junior college of hammock camping. Your trip report videos, especially in the deep Minnesota winters, are a pure joy to watch. They serve as the masters seminar in applied Hammockology. I don't know I would have ever considered hammock camping in freezing temps without knowing Shug can do it in crazy sub-freezing temps. Thank you for posting videos for the last 17 years.

We would not be half the company we are today without you and your endorsement. But most of all, Thank You for blessing us with your gift for entertaining. You are just a breath of fresh air😂 I found Jason Irwin at Tumblehome again (he was sick for a bit and was dropped off my feed😡) and he was mimicking you on one of his videos and I was so amused:). He likes you and I like that he mimicked you. So cute. Don’t need to answer this. Just wanted you to know we appreciate your taking the time to create content😉

Film what you want and show what you want. As a viewer, I'm 40% here for the information, 40% for the presentation, and 20% for the je ne sais quoi. People can become trapped by what they think others expect from them, and that probably goes double or triple for someone who performed for much of their life. The same drive and charisma that made you good at performing also can trap you. Just remember that it's all an illusion, and nothing is forcing you to do this but your notion of who you are to yourself and others. Cheers shug! You have our respect, adoration , and sufferance no matter what. ;)

Well, according to me you're a young man because I'm 75. Even though I don't do videos, I wouldn't even know how to begin to do a video of myself, backpacking and hammock camping, or even camping in the back of my truck in a Joy Tutus truck tent. I don't consider you old at all. If you are old physically. Yes, you're up in your years but in the heart no you're like a young boy that wants to have fun in the sun or in the snow? Or even the rain. We thoroughly enjoy your videos.Sean (Shug), and maybe if you cut it down to every other week or even once a month, we still look forward to you to that special video of you and your escapades. You're one of a kind and don't ever change the way you are because then you wouldn't be, SHUG. Sending you much love. Who knows what tomorrow brings? Hopefully more videos from our dear friend, Shug.

I've been watching for years, and sat with you for a bit before one of your shows at the MN State Fair. I was just getting into hammock camping when I found you, and you gave me confidence to dive in rather than just dabbling, and as a result I have been more successful at it and enjoyed my trips much more. So I want to thank you for that! I've stuck with you and feel a connection to you and your other watchers. For example, I've said "Whoo Buddy" to a stranger I meet near a hammock and been answered back "All secure in Sector 7" which was a bonding icebreaker.

Hi Shug, I found your channel in maybe 2014/2015 in the depths of a dark cold MN winter stretch. I can't even begin to express my gratitude for you as a YT Personality. I was always from a camping family but your videos totally changed my life by introducing me to hammocking. It's such an improvement over what I did as a kid and growing up. To be able to work so hard and earn a few moments in the quiet, while still hanging among the trees in total comfort, is an experience to strive for. My wife and I only go by hammock now (after some trial and error) and have found such immense joy, appreciation, and satisfaction in our trips to the woods because of what we learned from you. I mean... I'm not even sure what else to say. Thank you so much for this channel and sharing your skills with us all.

When I first got into hammock camping 9 years ago, I stumbled across your videos and have been subscribed ever since. I've always found your content to be a great blend of entertainment and informative. I spent the first 43 years of my life living in Oregon which in some ways is similar but in many ways, so different than the areas you show in your videos. In April 2022 I moved to the UP of Michigan and after watching so much of your content, the environment almost seems familiar. If that makes sense? The first time I saw lake superior I used your line "Now that is a lake that doesn't have any self confidence issues." i have always enjoyed your sense of humor and personality. some people just have a natural charisma. and i am sure it takes a lot of work to bring that energy whenever you film your videos, but there are some things that not everyone can just do spontaneously. your personality has always come across as genuine and spontaneously fun. it's infectious. i'll always come back and watch your videos, even if they aren't about camping, or hammocks.. i also enjoy music and am always interested in odd hobbies or even just a vlog of someone's day. so yeah, at least for me, there are certain people on youtube, who i always come back to because i just feel a kinship to them, i see something of myself that i relate to in them as a person, i like them as a person and want to keep in touch in some way. so sometimes it's about that person, rather than the topic / content they might produce. even if they didn't have the greatest production quality etc, i'll keep following them because i care. some people just grow on you like that. but of course, your videos are great, well done, entertaining, funny, and informative, and i still enjoy my hammock! i think i'll always enjoy relaxing in a hammock, who wouldn't?! keep on keepin on shug.. long life and good health to ya, whooo buddy!

Hi Shug, I've been enjoying your vids for a while now. Not sure how long, but the t-shirt I have is starting to get that old band t-shirt look, so I guess it's a while. Maybe time to treat myself to a hoodie. Not really fussed about which style of video you release. You make me smile and cheer my day. So thank you for all your efforts. Best wishes Al

Been enjoying your channel for about 8 or 9 years now. I enjoy that you put out what you want when you want. I get tired and bored of the high volume, put out a video every Weds, quest for content approach to KZfaq. When it started, it was just about having fun and sharing. When it got monetized, it started to shift from fun to revenue. When revenue started to creep in, many creators became driven by it and for it. I've never felt like you have. I'm sure there's a period where you felt the pressure, but I have always enjoyed your diversity of content. I don't care about bass guitars (former professional musician, guitar, heavy music), but it's fun to watch you discover it for yourself. I have made gear decisions based off of some of your content, but not to buy what you use. Rather, I have absorbed your reviews and knowledge to apply to my own preferences, camping/backpacking style, and goals. You introduced me to Dutch (don't know whether to thank you or send you the bill). Hammocking has been a fun journey for me and my boys, and like you, I didn't have the issues some others report in adopting it. It came naturally to me. It's still some of the best sleep I get. I'm a retired scoutmaster now (16 years), with two Eagle scouts (of my 4 boys), and a couple active campers who just enjoy time in the woods and on the trail with their dad. As my last two head off to college, and enter the final laps before leaving for college, I just enjoy my time with them, and enjoy the time I get in the woods. I took about a 2 year break from camping and backpacking after stepping away from scouting. I had camped almost every month for over a decade. I'm now getting back into it and rediscovering what I loved about it in my younger days (I won't say "youth" because I still fell like I'm 15 on the inside). Do what makes you happy. That's what we want to see, is you having fun. Control line flying, ice rinks on the pond, tensa stands in the yard, bass playing in the nut hut, barbeques, Halloween ... it's just fun. As long as you feel up to putting it out there, we'll have fun with you. If you don't feel like it, don't worry. The great thing about KZfaq is, it's not a job. It's a hobby. Some people make some side cash on it, but it shouldn't be a job. It was never intended to be. Two of my sons have a podcast on YT (The McDonCast if you feel up to it). They have like 90 - 100 subscribers, and their videos are all like 2 hours long. They just riff on movies, pop culture, etc. They don't care if nobody watches. It's just fun for them to get together, get some fast food, and talk about whatever for 90+ minutes. It's as much about them hanging out as it is about recording and putting videos out. Just have fun with it. That's the most anyone should ask.

Thanks for your comment dissertation. I enjoyed reading it. The bass is new and giving a different scope on life. Seeing and feeling new things. Nice you get out with the boys. I had really great scoutmaster and enjoyed my 6 years in scouts. I still apply a lot that I learned. Maybe I'll saunter over and check that podcast. Whooooo Buddy))) Be Square and obey the law of the pack. My favorite line.

I became a subscriber in about 2019 when I started getting into a hammocks while motorcycle camping. And then once you helped me get going in hammocks, I stayed for the hiking videos and I don't even hike. You had me thinking about a few times but never pulled the trigger, I like touring through the small towns all over the Country on the motorcycle. I had to adjust to riding alone because my long time riding buddy kinda got tired of going for awhile and had some health issues. I have come to appreciate all of you content, and after a while you discover that you keep coming back to watch whats up with them no matter what the content is. I am 57 now and I get the whole sometimes you don't feel like it! Lol. I just wait till you surface again!😎 Well for whats its worth as long as you feel like posting ill keep watching! Till next time my friend! Peace! 😎👍

I want to thank Shug for introducing me to hammocking and allowing me and son to spend some time together! Even now I find it hard to find/make time to get out and Shug's video's help with my sadness of not being able to get out! I wish I lived closer to Shug and would love to get the opportunity to go out on a trip with him! Living here in IN I'm going to have to travel north in order to do any snow camping!

Thank you Shug for your vids. Your videos are best. Entertaining, educational and simple so can understand stuff. No annoying ads, just 100% content. My favourite ones is the one with you sharing how someone at a bar told how you just accept people. And the one how you chose your wife because she wants to be with you, not need. (Also have to ask how much you're into Robin Williams, as your style of comedy sometimes reminds me of him)

Shug, I've been watching you for a long while and love being part of your adventures and teaching. You bring a lot of joy to so many people, you should feel really good about that! That said, you should always put your own life first. Making videos because you feel obliged to is not the way forward. Even if you put out a handful of videos a year, most of your audience would totally understand and support you. I'd be happy with a hiking video or two, an annual adventure with the Hickory Bros, and the odd bit of lolligagging along the way. Keep being you Shug, we love ya! Woo Buddy!
