Funny, growing up camping in a tent I dreaded rain. Camping in my hammock I almost look forward to the rain. Almost. So peaceful and relaxing.

God that is some heavy gear. It’s like going back thirty years in time. I will stay on the ground with my 18 oz tent. All I can say is you really have to love it. Sadly I am to old for lugging things like that around. Thanks for sharing, it does look comfortable and we’ll make. Take care

@mtadams2009

@@shugemery I think it’s about 12 oz. You are right it looks very comfortable. I can see it’s use if your going on short trips. Maybe need to take some short trips and just hang a bit. Who knows maybe I will give hanging a try. The other day I was camped on the Long Trail and I got up early to beat a big storm hail and all and woke up at 5 am and the man hanging in his hammock was already on the trail . I never heard him pack. Pretty impressive. I end up carrying more than I want often because I have a dog. She loves the trails. Take care

I just pre-ordered the Haven XL. From the outside looking in: I would consider this a Bridge style Hammock with respect to the flat lay the hammock provided while loaded, achieved by the combination of the way the material is cut and the spreader bars. I think the closest comparable hammock was the Maverick which Derek Hansen review in 2014. The Haven seems to use the mattress to assist with the flat-lay, the Maverick used fiberglass “ribs” connected to a frame underneath the hammock. The tarp is pretty minimal for coverage, but I'm looking forward to trying this system in the winter to see how the tarp toggled down on the sides performs as a winter barrier/micro climate of sorts. Thanks for the great review Shug.

Really convenient for hanging over rocks . A plus is no underquilt ... A sheet of reflectix under the insulated pad is good to 0 degrees .

I have a Haven Hammock / Tent, its fantastic, the set up and take down is very simple and quick, I get a great nights sleep in it and its so stable I can get dressed in there. Durability is the key quality of this set up, everything is made with longevity in mind, if your serious about staying a number of nights in the woods then I think its the best shelter on the market. Shug has done a great review, he's obviously a seasoned wilderness / hammocks guy, don't believe the other KZfaqrs out there who mislead on how good this set up really is with their own personal ' design solutions'.

Another great video shug! I ordered one and it’s coming the day before thanksgiving. For what I’m looking for, it checks all the boxes. Like you, I might use an additional tarp but I am surprised you didn’t point out the extreme weather uses the existing tarp could be used for. Even if just used to block wind or cold from one ... or both sides. (Think sock) Weight is not a concern for me, so I’ll keep existing tarp attached in cool or cold weather and may even bring additional tarp for higher more airy tarp. Thanks for keeping us informed AND entertained shug!

It was a satisfying project. They should do well this year. Watched all the races...F1 and F2, quali, practice. Fun for 3 days. It is my happy spot. McClaren is my team. Don't want Carlos to go to Ferrari. Rooting for Williams too. They are doing a bit better. Enjoy that Warbonnet.

Interesting. I've been been slowly poking around for a hammock system that goes to the ground easily. Sometimes when I am kayak camping you get stuck with a barren sand bar. I've seen it happen and sleeping on sand with no pad is rougher than you'd think. I'd love to hear you thoughts comparing systems that are ground and tree friendly.

hmm, lotsa hammock stuffs on this page. Only one I've ever slept in was one of those double wide net rope type with spreader bars each end. (yeah, took the Jeep) I can't remain comfy sleeping as a banana. So I pulled the hammock tight/flat as can be, loaded it up(old heavy sleep bag/5° job), lay'd on for a tad and re-tightened to flat again..simple square knot. (-: It was quite comfy..a pad would have been nicer. ~ Couple times I set up two as bunk beds same trees...whoa, this is kinda high... ..yeah, we normally have beers.~ Getting up in there was dicey. "I'm not going to want to get up/out and back middle of night to tinkle". I put a sealable coffee can in the bottom of my sleep bag and it worked great. Just don't dump it on the missus below. ;-) blah blah~ have a great November silly rabbit.

If I could pull that out of my car/truck/suv, it would be awsome. For me as a old man (60ish) if my 4 day kit (excluding water) is over 14 lbs.....NO! I love being surrounded by feathers floating in the air. Like sleeping on a cloud. Though, if I didn't have to hike over 10 a day. I'd give that a shot in a PA winter!

I did a review on the Haven tent a few months ago. I felt it was a bit too narrow for me to be comfortable. I must have gotten one of the older tarps too, because it was leaking at the toggle points. Like you though, I really like the concept. Derek mentioned they were working on a wider model, and they were very good about their return policy. If they do come out with a wider model, I would be very interested. Although, I'm sure the weight and bulk will be too much for any long hikes.
@shugemery
@shugemery 4 жыл бұрын
It is heavy but the ground pitch alternative is a positive for times you might need too. At least it is something different and Derek has stood by it very well. Must be very tough to bring out a new product. Hammockers seem to be very very picky so I try to keep an open mind.
@RichADio
@RichADio 4 жыл бұрын
@@shugemery agreed. Thats why I'm looking forward to the wider model. I hope it doesn't take too long to get to market. I'd even be happy to beta test it for them. 😆
