Noise won’t come from the Mic for sure. Keep in mind that condenser mics are always suggested for audio recordings, but the SM58 can be used. You say “crisp” sound quality. For this you definitely need a condenser microphone.

This video is meant for you to take conclusions :) This is why I didn't say anything. For ex: if you're impression is that they all sound similar, it's a good input for you as it means that you could purchase the cheaper one without wasting money :)

That’s what I liked about this video! Often enough people waste money for things they don’t need. This might keep a lot of people from making this mistake themselves. I for myself would go for the Beta 58 A, but not because of the sound, but for its background noise rejection. Thanks for the video. It was quite entertaining!

I can work it out of course, and let you hear the differences...but singing with different positions would have compromised the comparison of course eheheh People would have accused the different position of changing the inputs EQ, by the way I'll upload a different test soon using the "suggested" positions, comparing just the BETA and the SM (as it was in my plans)! Hey! Well, let's start saying that the QLX-D have a metal handheld mic that is surely more robust. At the same time, even if the GLX-D is made of plastic, it's a thick and solid piece of plastic, absolutely far from the typical crappy plastic things that you find when purchasing cheap microphones. I've been using it on a lot of stages for almost 5 years and never had a crack even if I admit it fell a few times :) It's not a cheap or entry-level mic, so I would never think of its construction as an issue :)

Grazie mille per i complimenti (approfitto per invitarti a seguire le mie band: Visions of Atlantis & Temperance) Tutti i sistemi wireless di base soffrono del problema delle interferenze, ed è scontato che maggiore è la spesa, minori saranno le problematiche. Abbiamo 2 sistemi BLX presso la sede dove lavoro: li utilizziamo solo ed esclusivamente come microfoni per speaker. In questi termini sono il meglio in rapporto qualità/prezzo, ma per il cantato te li sconsiglierei non solo per la questione interferenze ma anche per la definizione della trasmissione che tende a perdere un po' di gamma armonica. Il GLX-D è un sistema ottimo che ho utilizzato per anni e continuo a vedere in utilizzo anche nel settore professionale! L'unica accortezza da avere è che il posizionamento del ricevitore sia a debita distanza da eventuali router wi-fi (anche quelli utilizzati sul palco). In più aggiorna il firmware, in quanto l'ultima versione rende disponibile un canale aggiuntivo (il 4o) che è di stabilità notevole ed è una risorsa fantastica in aree ricche di interferenze!

@@francescocavallaro3511 qualche piccolo problema si ha persino a livelli altissimi. Ho appena finito un tour con gli ERA in cui avevamo antenne di altissimo livello e una gestione dei canali studiata a pennello, e qualche volta è stata dovuta cambiare frequenza comunque, per cui succede. Ma con un GLX-D e l'aggiornamento firmware (che si fa semplicemente tramite cavo USB da mac/pc seguendo le istruzioni -semplicissime- dal sito shure) sarà davvero difficile che tu abbia problemi. Ricordati della questione router wi-fi però! Io di solito appoggiavo sempre il ricevitore sul raiser della batteria alle mie spalle o comunque in linea di vista!

@@MicheleGuaitoli nella zona di utilizzo router wifi non ce ne sono, e in ogni caso la distanza trasmettitore, ricevitore sarà sui 10 metri. Al massimo qualche smartphone potrebbe fare interferenza e interrompere il suono?

Yep, be careful: the 87a is a condenser mic. It sounds great and clear but as a condenser, it has much more sensibility. I would suggest it for big stages but another capsule would be needed in case of smaller stages.

Hi-mids, I totally agree. What I would say is that they are "too much" if you're not looking for it: it may sound obvious, but considering what the SH55 is made for, I think that if you decide to get it for its sound and not for its look, you may be part of a retrò tribute band...and the "exceeding hi-mids" are definitely something "typical" of that sound :)

Yeah, I thought that too. 50's mics sounded a little too hi-mids. We still have the chance to fix it by cutting them a little via EQ. Thanks for you answer!

I would never suggest a PEDAL, but if you are in NEED of one check out the BOSS VE-1. Could be a good combo quality/price. In general for vocal effects it’s always better to rely on the digital desks / external racks

Hi Jackie! The delay on QLX-D is below 2ms, and on the GLX-D is below on 4ms in the first channel. I personally DON’T feel anything wrong :)

Blx is analog, entry level. Slxd is the latest difital addition, I would suggest it, digital conversion, RF transmission. GLXD has wireless transmission, so instead of RF transmission it goes on 2.4/5 wireless networks - Convenient, but easily subject to interferences. BLXR, GLXR ecc ecc is the same of BLX and GLX but with Rack-mounting receivers.

@@MicheleGuaitoli What about PGX? Among them all what do you recomend to use with my band in pubs and other places (not too big).

@@carlodeluca Not sure if PGX is even produced anymore. If I am right, it's basically the "old model" that now became BLX. In general, if you don't have big demands, the GLX is probably the most convenient choice due to its rechargeable battery and the easy setup. If you don't play in big venues with potentially hundreds of people interfering on the wi-fi, you should be good to go with it. If you want certainties, the SLX-D is a superior model and the entry level in the professional universe (vs the GLX being a great option for non-professionals).

Surely a 58a out of the two you suggested. No need to get a condenser mic as the 87a is for a karaoke situation :)

Hi Paul! The Super55 is much more sounding as a modern mic, with the “envelope” of a vintage one. You even see bands such as Metallica using it live nowadays and you can find tons of recordings made with this mic to understand what I mean. The 55sh is recalling the vintage style not even in the look but in the sound too, this is why I’d probably won’t recommend it for a ROCK band, suggesting the SUPER 55 instead, that is gonna perfectly fit the style \m/

@@paulmartinez2069 I borrowed an sh55, and I felt like it was prone to feedback in our rehearsal room. I read that it's an sm58 capsule in a metal shell, basically. The super would be a Beta58 capsule, so supercardoid which will be better for rehearsing rock. I bought the regular Beta58, really hope to use it soon! I have tried it before and like it for my voice.

@@onzkicg My favourite mics are the SHURE SV200 and the OQAN QMD50, both professional microphones. Thank you for your question. I always prefer to use microphones that sound with a great quality.

I would pick a Beta58. The SM58 is quite directional and might not be extremely efficient when it comes to the harmonica with all the movements needed to play it. The Beta58 has a wider polar pattern that will totally help you there! It might be a bit more expensive, but it's a once-in-a-lifetime purchase

condenser mic is the answer

It is possible to do it if you have an audio interface with a Jack or XLR input. It's surely not the best studio-microphone though as it's a dynamic :) But of course this is possibile as with any other microphone

La cosa positiva della Shure a mio parere è che comunque vai caschi bene: intendo dire che anche i modelli più economici rispetto a quelli che ho "presentato" in questo video, sono comunque qualitativi. Qualche anno fa il rischio era quello di ritrovarsi, acquistando un radiomicrofono di fascia bassa, con un sound "inscatolato / poco definito / povero di armoniche". Oggi mi sento tranquillo nell'affermare che anche un sistema BLX (il più economico di Shure) garantisce comunque in palchi medio-piccoli un "esperienza" ottima. Certo è che con un centinaio di € in più puoi accedere al sistema GLX che al di là della trasmissione digitale (già ottimo motivo per aspettare e risparmiare qualcosina in più), ha il grossissimo vantaggio della batteria ricaricabile...ed ecco che i 100€ risparmiati prendendo eventualmente un BLX vengono riguadagnati nel lungo termine... Per quanto riguarda la capsula, personalmente ed indipendente dalle dimensioni dello stage, sono innamorato della risposta del Beta58...

Proximity is fundamental with dynamic mics :) 3mm are already a “considerable” distance in terms of frequency response. + the closer you are to the capsule, the less gain you have to apply...with less noise, inteferences, bleeding ecc ecc :)

I'm using it for all my live shows with Kaledon/Overtures and my personal performances :) It may be a bit expensive, but I'd suggest it to everyone who can afford its price.

Oh Wow yes! for live recording Beta 58 GLX-D or Beta 58 QLX-D?

I have to admit that the difference in the recordings is not that much but the QLX of course offers more stability and functionalities in the bigger stages and open airs / difficult conditions. I see the QLX-D system as a pro-system, the step before the ULX-D, the GLX-D is a great system for semi-pros :)

Michael Benedicto hi Michael! Consider that condenser = wider polar pattern. The 87a is a supercardiod mic, this means that you’ll not only have the advantages of a cardiod mic (more definition + more harmonics) but the bad sides too. If you’re planning to play in small/mid sized venues, I would definitely not reccomand a Beta87, unless you’re playing really clean styles with low volumes on stage. If you’re playing in a rock/heavy/metal band (with loud drums, guitar/bass amps etc...) ...avoid condensers for the live shows. If instead you’re playing soft styles or if you want a multi/purpose mic (live & home recording) with softer styles, it is is your mic :)

Michele Guaitoli thank you so much.. i think i'll just go to the store and check both dynamic and condencer.. i am really confused because regularly i sing in casinos solo i am using minus one and sometimes in weddings with a full band set up.. my voice is sometimes soft sometimes it is loud when needed depends on the song i am singing. Im so excited and confused at the same time.. by the way you sing really good i love the quality of your voice.. it made all the mics sound better..

Reading your lines and your thoughts about the dynamics, I am thinking that the problem is more concerned about the lack of a compressor rather than he choice of a microphone! If you sing in casinos/weddings a dynamic is a good choice and you can also save some money :) at the same time I would not deny a condenser since it would be not a such loud stage... :) go and try: it is always the best solution!

Manuel Peña Ruiz Hi Manuel! The quality in terms of harmonics is very good both in the QLX and te GLX. I personally feel the QLX a bit deeper, this may give you a sense of major proximity/loudness. I have to say that the huge difference is the extreme stability of the QLX in terms of transmission. Nothing huge and not noticeable in such a small space. On the big stages though, the QLX is definitely more responsive than the GLX and I almost never had wireless issues. The GLX is sometimes suffering some weak transmission issues, easily solved with a channel switching, but consider that groups 2 to 4 on the GLX have 8ms latency, whilst only group 1 has 4ms latency. The QLX always keeps latency 4ms

Nicola Bartoletti ciao Nicola e grazie mille! Le differenze sono parecchie! Dal numero di gruppi e canali selezionabili, maggiori sul QLX, alla latenza (inferiore nettamente sul QLX per quanto si parli di millisecondi). Il QLX ha poi una maggiore portata, sincronizzazione ad infrarossi ed in generale una risposta dinamica migliore. Sono tutte cose che rendono la fascia di qualità superiore sul QLX rispetto al GLX, ma è altrettanto vero che si tratta di differenze udibili e percettibili solo in ambienti professionali. Ultima e forse più importante differenza: la trasmissione. Il GLX trasmette a 2.4 ghz, come i normali router, infatti è sconsigliabile posizionare il ricevitore vicino a router Wi-Fi ed è potenzialmente soggetto a interferenze date da smartphone, connessioni Wi-Fi varie ecc ecc. anche se con l’ultima versione del firmware, il problema praticamente non sussiste. Il QLX invece malgrado la conversione digitale del segnale, trasmette comunque in UHF, garantendo tutti i vantaggi sia della trasmissione analogica che del segnale digitale!

Hi Ricardo! If you don't have a clear idea, I'd definitely go with an SM58. It's a classic and it can be adapted to almost every voice with just a few EQ :)

L'advanced è molto carino per via del montaggio a rack. Se fosse uscito prima, mi sarei direzionato sicuramente su di lui anche io prima del QLX-D. Il GLX è davvero versatile ed efficiente, sopratutto se utilizzato con i gruppi di frequenza 1 dove la latenza rimane attorno ai 4ms. Ti confesso che in alcuni test fatti con allievi / colleghi, in davvero pochissimi percepiscono la latenza (cmq sotto i 10ms) dei gruppi 2-3-4. Ad ogni modo, è davvero un ottimo sistema, che a quella cifra non ha eguali. Se il target è quello dei locali e di qualche open-air, vai tranquillo: è una garanzia e non ho praticamente mai avuto problemi di sgancio di segnale e la qualità di trasmissione - anche registrata - è validissima. Paradossalmente è l'acquisto che consiglio di più. QLX e ULX-P sono sistemi con delle funzionalità che iniziano ad avere una vera praticità solo in contesti più impegnativi.

Ciao Carlotta! L'SH55 è un microfono molto particolare che ha un sound tutto suo, penso sia evidente anche dal video. La fortuna è che esiste in diverse versioni. Il classico Series II (che è il più economico del lotto) dà una sonorità decisamente (volutamente) mediosa che richiama il sound retrò.Se canti ROCK può non essere la soluzione migliore, mentre nel Jazz lo vedo decisamente bene! Esiste poi la versione SH55 SUPER, di base cromata e blu, ma esistente anche in due versioni limited edition - una totalmente nera, l'altra nera con i dettagli rossi. Questa seconda versione mantiene le caratteristiche visive "vintage" ma "aggiorna" la sonorità con una capsula differente che rende il suono decisamente più moderno e attuale, rendendolo un microfono assolutamente comparabile con i vari concorrenti di formato "standard"...ma con il look affascinante che lo caratterizza! Se è specifico per il tuo progetto Jazz, allora vai assolutamente a creare un'identità sonora :) Per il rock la scelta è quasi inevitabile: SM58 o Beta58. Il Beta ha una ripresa più rotonda e brillante (io lo preferisco) ma anche un maggiore rischio di larsen se di tuo non hai una gran volumata in gola. Avendo un tipo di ripresa più ampio (super-cardiode) quando il gain si alza hai molti più rientri. Se invece di tuo hai un gran volume, vai a occhi chiusi sul Beta58! L'SM58 permette margini di gain più vasti, senza andare a rischiare sotto l'aspetto della ripresa perché è un normalissimo dinamico a cardiode. Se è diventato uno standard, un motivo c'è :)

Yep. For my personal experience I've seen that too many people care about the loudness of a specific microphone instead of the "response" of that same microphone compared to others, and in the end people buys the mic with more output because it "feels" better, without editing any setting while trying it. Imho, this is the wrongest way to "test a microphone". In correct working conditions, the "gain" of the preamp or the "output" from the mic is not the point, as it is another section of the chain. Some preamps work better, some worse...but they all "affect" the sound. The response of a microphone instead, must be evaluated with the most similar final output level compare to the other you're "testing". Defining the loudness of the mics I've tested should be done in another video. Moreover, especially in a live situation, the needed level must be reached with every microphone. When you sing (no matter if it's in a band, with a backing track or whatever), your volume will be defined by the preamp and the fader, and you'll never keep the same setting when switching microphone. What finally comes back to your ears is THAT "loudness"..as much as for a recording where you'll need to set the levels.

microphones are meant to be used with proximity man. 3-5mm from the capsule, which basically means attached to the grid, or you lose information.
