I love this microphone, it's made for people who aren't too serious about recording music but want something that still sounds terrific and don't want to spend big $ on it. This is MUCH better than recording on the phone, but it's nearly as practical and easy to do. No one wants to set up a whole studio if music is just a hobby to them and recording is something they do occasionally. I'm getting one for myself and for my friend as a gift.

This is a mic used for someone just getting into the game. An entry level mic if you may. It was a good suggestion on the MVi. That would be practical if you already have an sm58 to hook up into it but if you dont, you are going to spend a little over $200 for both the sm58 and the MVi. If you want something a bit more sturdy than the MV5, you can get the MV51. That one is metal contruction and it's a beefed up MV5. I believe the price for the MV51 is around $200. So either way, if you want something more sturdy, you are going to be in the $200 range unless you already have the sm58. The MV5 has great sound and great frequency responce. I would recomend for someone looking into starting a pod cast.

I personally could find a lot of uses for this mic. I have a studio downstairs, but a lot of the time I like to play acoustic guitar in the living room writing songs, I use a zoom h1 plugged into a macbook, also i like to record myself sometimes to see how I was playing a riff in quiktime vids on my laptop late at nite half drunk ( i know I'm going to forget the next day)...also i use it for facetime, skype, any streaming, recording song ideas. The fact that its ios ready, means i could use it as a quick and dirty way to record my band at practice on an ipad with video, not to get a great recording but to sit around with the lads in the pub after practice and have a quick playback to see how songs are progressing or not woeking etc...doesn't everyone do that?? instead of lugging a laptop, daw interface, camera etc...its convenient not pristine audio..if i want pristine I'll use my studio mics in a studio..obviously. I suspect it could be a good replacement for the Zoom H1 for me, as my old one is about to die, and I only ever use it as a usb mic. to my ears it doesn't sound worse than Zoom..can anyone confirm??

Do you think this is enough for just communications, though?... I mean, yes, it is, you can hear someone speak, but in terms of pickup and just speech... Because I'm looking for something that is small and "out of the way", which would preferably be like a headset-microphone. But I just don't have headphones that have that and add-ons seem to be expensive for poor quality audio, and usually problematic to attach. - Any ideas for a small affordable microphone with decent communication-sound that won't clutter?

Elastico345 - Mixels and other stuffs M50 is still good. A few years ago, it had zero competition at its price point. Now there are similar or better options, some even cheaper. But they look kind of ugly. I prefer the look of the M50x, and I also have a nice dbrand skin on my blue M50X, it looks great with a dark wood skin and some light wood for contrast. I also swapped out the earpads for a nice brown velour. You don't really get any sort of focus on appearance from other options, and that's because Audio-Technica wanted to create something you'd wear outside and not in a studio. If you're looking for a better sound in the same price range, I would recommend the NAD Viso HP50 which is currently $150: amzn.to/2uElxGe And if you don't care about appearance at all, then get the NVX XPT100 for $76: amzn.to/2uEiP3L but be warned that they are very much studio oriented. Probably the flattest curve and the most accurate sound under $100, and very comfortable to boot, but I wouldn't look in a mirror while wearing them :P

Sounded like the speech mode picked up the lower timbre of your voice way better than the flat or the musical. I'm basically looking for a budget mic that will have more depth and not make my son sound like a 1st tenor, even though he's more like a 2nd tenor. So, the problem with this is you can't get the mic where you want it to be to have good audio? Is that what I'm understanding? Could I stick it on a stack of books? lol Maybe I don't get it!

That's an impossible question to answer. There's no such thing as a TOP 5 microphones. Everyone records in a different environment with a different voice with a different use case with a different preference and a different recording setup. There are too many variables to state this is absolutely the top 5 mics out there.

no this is easy. you need to use an marker. something visual that also makes a noise. then you can determine the excat start of each. guess what movie clapboards are for
@Podcastage
@Podcastage 5 жыл бұрын
I record the audio to my computer, and my the video to my camera. When I start recording both of them, I clap 3 times. This causes three large peaks in the camera audio and the microphone audio. I then line up the microphone audio with the video file using these three peaks as the guide to do that.

Which one would be better between this one and the Blue Yeti ?
@Up_All_Night
@Up_All_Night 7 жыл бұрын
It depends on what you need it for. I think they're such different microphones as not to compete with each other. Where the Yeti really shines is it's versatility, multiple polar patterns and stereo recording. You just aren't going to get that out of the MV5. On the other hand, the MV5 is tiny, portable, screws onto a 1/4" tripod mount and plugs straight into an iPhone/iPad. I don't think it sounds as good as the Yeti, but a little EQ would probably improve it a lot. Personally, I think there's a good reason the Yeti is as popular as it is, and why everyone asks about comparing microphone X to the Yeti.

Should be 50-75 Dollars. - And I think it IS actually more like 75 Dollars from Shure directly even. But I can only find it for like 120 EUROS here in The Netherlands, which is more like 130 Dollars. - For a plastic body and limited features, even if the sound is good, I feel like I should get two of these for that kind of money.
