At no point did I ever, as a little boy, watch Snow White and say to myself “Wow I am rooting for the prince because he is man and I am dominant male.” Snow White was pretty relatable for me. I grew up in a chaotic environment, and seeing a “grown woman” get scared and reaching a place of contentment despite her circumstances was very inspiring to me. Characters like her and Cinderella were role models to all of us when we were kids! When people like modern feminists preach about how misogynistic these characters were portrayed all I can do is wonder what they’ve been through or which insane podcast they’re listening go in order to come to THAT conclusion!

For me Esmeralda and Quasimodo made me see people in a new light. I also liked how Jasmine was so kind to animals and children, she was often angry for the right reasons. You rarely see female characters be angry and not shamed over it. Esmeralda praying to God was also very beautiful cuz even tho there was a pervert priest there was also another priest who saved Quasimodo and Esmeralda who continued to use the church to pray for others. Quasimodo being kind and not bitter over other people rejecting him and lets add Ariel who with all her embarassing moments still being optimistic and even agressive to get the guy. Usually the princes chased the girls but Ariel chased the prince.

The only way this could work is if the mirror tells her that Snow White will steal her throne one day and the Queen naturally wants to preemptively kill her for self-preservation. Thing is, Snow White was like 13 and had an abusive mother. I can realistically see her not being a "strong independent woman" because she is literally an abused little girl. If anything, she has the best excuse out of the Disney princesses to be the way that she is. Yet, she still survived the forest and made the best out of her situation. She's strong in her own right. It seems like that media feels the need to overcompensate for woman's weaknesses in an attempt to make them look stronger, when it literally defeats the whole purpose of female empowerment. Female empowerment is meant to be about an underdog punching up. Not other woman criticizing other females for being weak. Like girl, being a CHILD doesn't make you weak as a woman. Disney already destroyed the live action Aladdin by making Jasmin a feminist who wanted to become Sultan and at one point in the movie, Jasmin sings in the palace and sends every men in the room to oblivion. Imagine a man doing the same, erasing all women in the room. Now, Disney is doing the same with SW. I hope this movie flops great time. Oh wait. It got CANCELLED from movie theaters. HA HA HA

I hate it when people use the word "cartoon" when downplaying the medium itself. _Snow White_ is literally the FIRST EVER animated feature film, and it helped shape the art form to what it is today. Walt Disney literally put his career on the line just to get the movie made. A lot of people, at the time, thought it was going to flop because they didn't think audiences would sit for long periods of time "watching a cartoon". Thankfully the film turned out immensely successful, and it made Disney a household name. So yeah, it's because of this movie that we not only have animated films, but animation in general. It's one thing to call it "dated", it's another to be disrespectful of the film itself simply because it's "old".

In those times animation was picture by picture drawer out colored and the voices music all added in. It took forever to make just one sein in the movie. Unlike now a days where it's all done with computers. The back ground had to be painted and foreground and sequined together. It a very tedious process. But now a days everything is much quicker. This actress lacks the basic comprehensiveness that Snow White wasn't just a cartoon movie about true love. It was a marvelous masterpiece that took alot of art, skill and imagination to do such a feat, and a few actors as well. This cinematic icon deserves respect as well honor. That's is what that actress lacks. She dishonor the actresses and the actors who's voices live on in that film. She should feel ashamed of herself.

I mean, she has a magic mirror that tracks Snow White's every movement, she obsesses over Snow White being the fairest in all the land, and she even disguises herself as an old woman to give her a poison apple. And yet we are to believe that the prince is some major league stalker because he went up to see her singing, in at least one scene in the movie!!! As for the kiss it was mentioned earlier by the evil queen in disguise that love's first kiss was the antidote to the sleeping death apple. I don't care if she's currently Snow White but when she's dissing the original film she's dissing Walt Disney's legacy and of course his first movie.

Lots of young girls dream of their wedding day and having a family with someone they deem as their true love. What is so bad about that? TO portray the prince as a stalker is so infuriating. I think with Zegler it's a combination of things, some of which are her fault, some who might, and some who are not. She is clearly working off a prepped list of talking points given to her by her corporate handlers. That's on whatever incompetents are running the marketing efforts for this movie. She is equally obvious also quite enthusiastic, and not very nuanced in her performance of said script. That could be down to being young and too inexperienced to realize she is being sacrificed on the altar of somebody else's agenda. It could also be the lines she is mouthing are mirroring her true believes and she's counting coup for the cause. That would make her dumb, but still culpable for the damage inflicted on the movie's box office and her career. Finally she comes across deeply entitled, egocentric, and just plain unlikable in that patented Brie Larson mold that can't simply be put down to mere youth. Twenty-two is plenty long enough to outgrow your inner mean girl. If you haven't it's because you just didn't care enough to make the effort. To be honest the whole thing is kind of both comic and disturbing at the same time. Like watching an anthropomorphic cartoon chihuahua on a sugar high strapping on an explosive vest and shouting "I REGRET NOTHING!" as she suicide bombs her career.

Thank you for being the only one so far to comment on the stalker aspect. Shes enamoured with him just as much as he is with her. She blows him a kiss and has a song about romantic he is. Dude isnt even in the film for more than 5 total minutes... Rachel is just trying to capitalize on the whole 'princesses shouldnt have to love a man, and any man that loves a princess feels he is owed her'

And the Prince was looking for Snow White when she ran away from the Queen (the ACTUAL stalker) to rescue her. The movie couldn't go into great detail with it, due to the limitations they had; the animators were just then learning how to animate realistic movement, with the Prince being the hardest one to animate, but these ideas were then used in _Sleeping Beauty._ In retrospect, it portrays the Prince as a noble hero who will save the girl he loves, but that's not acceptable in current year.

@@lmahu6627 it’s funny how people say in older Disney movies, the prince rescues the princess, which could not be further from the truth. You can somewhat make a case for Sleeping Beauty, but in the case for Snow White… it was the DWARVES that came to the rescue!!! Besides, no one but the queen, knew that love’s true kiss was the way to break the curse. And it so happened to be the prince, who was the only one in Snow White’s life who treated her with love. The kissing scene was such a satisfying payoff, and to have these morons say that she did not consent, like WHAT?? How can a person who is in a state of suspended animation consent?? He though she was dead! And it was a loving gesture of saying goodbye to her. Geez… stupid people like Rachel make me so mad…

I don’t understand the "the prince assaulted her" narrative. At my grandma's funeral, I kissed her forehead before they closed the coffin, not because I wanted to "assault" her, but because it was literally the last time I would ever see her body and I wanted to give her a send-off. In Snow White, they all thought she was dead. The dwarves put her in a coffin for crying out loud. The prince kissed her and was probably not expecting her to "wake up." Yeah, it's kinda weird that he kissed her on the lips, but that's just semantics.

Looking for true love isn't a sign of weakness. If someone has an abusive family it's only natural for them to look for someone who'll love them unconditionally. Phoebe Buffay from friends did not have a family as a child and it was sort of her dream to find someone to love and start a family. And in no way that made her weak. Looking for love is someone's personal choice but calling that "weakness" is some celestial level of 'stupidity'

Weird? weiiiird!

funny enough Japan already did their own version or take on Snow white a few years ago called Snow white with the red hair. It's obviously no where close to the original tale or Disney version. It's also not close to what you're describing as while inspired by Snow white it's very much it's own version but here's the basic plot (Copied from it's wiki article). Contains mild spoilers. Shirayuki is an herbalist in the kingdom of Tanbarun with one unique feature: her beautiful red hair, which attracts a lot of attention. Due to her hair color, Shirayuki was raised to always be careful of showing her hair in new surroundings, tying it up with a red ribbon. She grew up to be an independent young woman. The first prince of her kingdom, Prince Raj, learns of her unusual hair color and orders her to become his concubine. She refuses his orders, leaving behind her herbalist business and her long red ponytail. Just inside the border of the neighboring kingdom of Clarines, she meets and befriends Prince Zen Wistaria and his two aides, Mitsuhide and Kiki. When Zen is poisoned by an apple meant for Shirayuki, gifted by Raj, she successfully obtains the antidote and decides to accompany the trio to Clarines. Shortly thereafter, Shirayuki passes an exam for a position to train in the palace as a royal court herbalist. Shirayuki finds a place in Clarines and works as a court herbalist, befriending the youngest herbalist, Ryu. Prince Raj realizes his feeling towards Shirayuki and starts working hard to become a ruler that she could be proud of. In spite of external opposition due to their difference in social status and the demands of their professions, Zen and Shirayuki begin to fall in love with each other and eventually begin a romantic relationship. Later, Shirayuki promises Zen that she will wait for him.

Kindness being considered weakness is why our country is in the state it is today. Snow White is strong not because she is a “girl boss” but because even in a time of great hardship for her, she still befriended the dwarves and helped them. Her kindness and friendship is what brought her happy ending because the dwarves kept her safe until her love could find her. SNOW WHITE IS A STRONGER WOMAN THAN RACHEL COULD EVER HOPE TO BE. Understanding when you need to rely on others is a great thing. We are social creatures. When independence is favored over teamwork and community then everyone ends up alone and miserable in the end.

There's a difference between being a feminist and taking shit out of context 24/7. I've been in an abusive relationship but I've seen 0% predatory tendencies in Snow White. She sings and then a prince hears her, listens to where the singing is coming from and he introduces himself, but he ends up startling her and she runs to the balcony. He never ran after her to stop her from getting away,he stayed there trying to talk to her and get to know her and he even sang a song for her,so she could see they both have something in common. Plus the whole consent thing, she never rejected him,she was just surprised that a man is giving her the type of attention she's never experienced before,so her first instinct was to find a place away from him so she could think about what it meant. When she "died",he kneeled down in front of the girl he had a crush on and wanted to kiss her for the last time, savoring the feel of her lips and signifying that he wanted a unit with her (love and marriage). Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've seen nothing predatory in the movie. This Rachel Trashzegler needs to calm the fuck down and get her hormones under control.

I had a dream where a live Snow White movie was announced. People were excited to see what Disney would do with its first ever live action remake. The dwarves were dwarves, and dressed like some of the Lord of the Ring dwarves but given some nice light-hearted personalities. The actress for Snow White was so excited for her part as the lead role, that she would go out over way to practice. She would visit kids in hospitals as Snow White to cheer them up, leading up to the big event where everybody would remember a timeless classic made with love and care. It was a nice dream.

Why is the "modern twist" always not being saved by a man, being a "strong independent woman" in the literal sense, and chucking the idea of love to the wayside?? A strong independent woman CAN be in love and CAN require help from a man. A feminine woman isn't weak because she embraces her femininity. In fact, she's strong in the sense that she's secure in herself and knows who she is. Not saying a more masculine woman is insecure, just that the idea of a feminine woman not being part of the vision of a modern woman is crazy to me. I love my femininity and I want to see more complex women characters that don't just feel like stone walls and cookie-cut outs of the same "women empowerment" drivel we've been seeing a lot of these past few years.
