This engine is loud... I mean LOUD! Proud owner presented this engine on Rauta ja Petrooli (Iron and Petroleum) event in Hämeenlinna, Finland 2022.

Когда мне в далеком 1988м году сказали " возьми пару пацанов и идите запускать самолет вручную , я думал , что шутят - 1000 л.с. руками ? А оказадась правда ! В АН-2 есть такой запуск ... Когда начинаешь крутить ручку , кажется , что она заклинила

У меня такой стартер в запасах валяется, его просто занятно покрутить, чисто ради звука раскручивающегося маховика. Да, стронуть эту штуку сложно, передаточное там на повышение 1 к 250, насколько помню.. не хухры-мухры )) Надо бы уже достать железку и полноценный обзор на неё замутить.. давно собираюсь.

@@gadavr а мы свой АН-2 в Мариуполе как раз в 13м году продали . Достали хохлы своими законами , правилами и прочей хренью ... А до этого ( недолго , правда) кидали парашютистов в Марике ...

@@lanehacker5833 Of course - it's a normal behaviour for this engine. I remember talking to AN-2 mechanic in the airfield near the place I lived back in the day. He told me it was not unusual for this engine to waste several liters of oil per flight - don't remember the exact amount he mentioned, but it was substantial.

It's called inertia starting method. Copy-paste from Wikipedia: "Here the starter motor does not turn the engine directly. Instead, when energized, the motor turns a heavy flywheel built into its casing (not the main flywheel of the engine). Once the flywheel/motor unit has reached a constant speed the current to the motor is turned off and the drive between the motor and flywheel is disengaged by a freewheel mechanism. The spinning flywheel is then connected to the main engine and its inertia turns it over to start it." In this case the engine is a the man who turned the crank...

Двигатель аш-62 разработан в ОКБ - 19 под руководством Швецова .

Фактически лицензия была закуплена на двигатель SGR-1820 F3, один из большого количества модификаций двигателя R-1820, запущенного в серию в 1931 году и производившегося по лицензии во многих странах. М-62 отличался от базовой модели главным образом установкой ПЦН и другими деталями, которые были скопированы с более поздних модификаций тех же двигателей, устанавливавшихся на купленном по лицензии в 1936 году самолёте DC-3.

Inertial starters were in use by all aviation nations, not just in Russia. By the beginning of WW II these starters were powered by pneumatic or electric engine.

it was electric in the actual airplane - there was an electrically-driven flywheel.
