Death threats are not the answer but this is very ablest, and I see people who do not have autism to see as this is not a big deal, but this can leave a very big mark on the autistic community if this is taken seriously because if you set an example for people who do not have autism, then people might think that every single is like that autistic person is like that we are not just just clueless and sometimes we don’t have a smile on or face and people have different struggles autistic. I think people were looking for a film that could represent everyone on the spectrum and the truth is that would be impossible. Every person has different perceptual abilities and challenges. The story is simply an interpretation of one individual who may in fact perceive the world much differently than others. For example, one child might find colors overwhelming and another may find them more stimulating and exciting. I’ve worked with the worst cases of autism in NJ and every child reacts differently to the same stimuli. They do perceive the world in their own way so there’s no way to characterize it in a way that can be generalized to all cases. I think people went way beyond feeling insulted over this when she truly had good intentions.
@EclecticallyEccentric

She may have had good intentions, but that doesn't mean she wasn't misinformed. She also deflected most of the blame instead of taking responsibility. Tbf acting in a role is not bullying. To take part in bullying one must intentionally desire to hurt the person or community (whether physically or mentally). ACTING IS ACTING. This idea that every. single. role. must be given to exactly the person whos "demographic" the character is... like.. that isnt acting anymore if you just play yourself... we dont need any more Kristen Stewarts in the world... whether gay straight or spectrum, i do not care.. simply portraying yourself is not acting... In regards to the rest of the film and its content, I cannot speak. I havent seen it. No doubt the script has its issues....my only point is the best actress or actor for any role should be the one who can actually do all that the role requires and then some. The best "actor" ... Which probably really wasnt Maddie in this case 😂 but... it doesnt make it okay in other cases where a shitty actor ruined a whole movie just because they were cast based off their race, gender, sexuality or otherwise... Edit: this was meant as a reply to a comment where someone said Maddie was worried she was bullying by taking the role. Guess I didn't hit the reply button but hit comment on accident.
