Me: This section moves me to tears. It's like ascending into Heaven. Sibelius: Swans.

Sibelius said of this Symphony that when God opened heaven you could hear his orchestra playing the Swan Motif, or words very close to that‼️✅

I think you're referring to when the most beautiful and emotionally painful moment of this symphony suddenly and abruptly ends and goes back to the 16th notes as if nothing happened. I wish somehow it continued

2:19 Double bass bows tapping on the instrument, creating a sort of "wing-flapping" percussion effect. I saw Mr. Järvi conducting the Hong Kong Phil on 8 April 2023, and was very surprised when that part came in, as I've never heard that interpretation before. Now I see he's been doing that at least since 9 years ago. Super interesting, thank you for sharing this clip.

Nice to see Sarah Willis giving her all on the horn; the very first female brass player in the Berlin Philharmonic.

The two horn passages are spine-tingling, especially when the second passage is played in a lower key.

The more I hear of Jarvi, the more convinced I become that he is a great conductor. His Sibelius is marvelous. I want to hear this whole performance, which I can do with my BPO online subscription. I recommend the conducting masterclasses Jarvi has been doing with his Tonhalle Orchestra in Zurich. His teaching style is like his advice to his students -- information conveyed very directly without decoration. He's an extremely smart, articulate guy with tremendous knowledge of the art of conducting (not too surprising, given who his father is). He's also charming and funny.

I love the bowings the basses are using, its so noisy yet adds to the intensity of changing chords after the modulation.

Una orquesta, tantas voluntades empeñadas en la precisión del sonido y el silencio, ejemplo de cooperación, mentes exactas en la expresión de la armonía y el ritmo. Viva la musica! y agradecimiento a quienes la hacen posible.

Again Paavo Jarvi demonstrates his expertise with Sibelius - possibly the finest conductor of this composer's music we have today - brilliant! (and with an orchestra supposedly not very familiar with this music, unbelievable as that might seem)

Schön. Man fühlt die Athmosphäre der Natur in Finnland. Den scharfen, kalten Wind und die Landschaften. Das ist bei wenigen Interpretationen der 5. von Sibelius der Fall.

That horn melody is so hauntingly depressing, it trumps anything I've heard in that regard from Beethoven, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, or any other composer........
@polenc7167

Depressing? Yes it is a descending passage. But it suggests something eternal. Something like the eternal force of life or love.

What? It's not depressing, it's melancholic and nostalgic, it's sounds like my grandmother, when she watches me and my sister dancing around the christmas tree and slowly falls with a smile on her face to sleep
