This is my Siberian Husky Storm at 8 weeks. This video was taken the day after I brought him home. He absolutely HATED his crate the first few weeks, but he is golden now. Lots of sleepless nights when I first got him though!

This isn't harmful. The pup is throwing a fit, like a kid who doesn't get the toy in Walmart. To let him out when he cries is to train him that freaking out will get him what he wants. And what? You're supposed to leave him out to demolish the house until he is "used" to the crate? I guarantee the pup would bark the same if left in a room, a garage, etc... So it isn't about the crate being too small. This isn't cruel. Just tough love

This is a typical response from a puppy this age and perfectly normal. Crate training is the most useful tool in dog training for many reasons, is not cruel, and works with the dog's natural denning instincts. Had had many, many foster puppies and owned dogs and this reaction is pretty much standard across the board. The crate is the right size as well. Fortunately, it is a very short time and the dogs learn much more than just accepting confinement with it's use. Great video demonstrating what can be expected those first few days.

Aryan Ranger Learn about dogs. A dog needs to at least learn to love their crate, but it needs to be done the right way. They are safe from electrical cords, coins and all kinds of things that can harm them. It keeps them from going all over the floor and furniture. It keeps them from eating the sofa. When done properly, the cage like this or an enclosed plastic crate, becomes a den, a safe haven. First, always leave the door open. 2nd, throw toy in, without any toys outside of it. Put treat inside. Put its food inside. Pet and praise inside. Put the bed inside for naps. When the dog loves it, close the gate for short periods. My Yorkies love their crates, even though I never needed to do any of these things, but each dog is different.

GOOD LIVING instead of a crate you can supervise. People that put dogs and pups in crates then go off out to work all day is fucking cruel. Don't get a dog if you are not prepared to spend time with it and supervise. Get a cat if you are going out all day or get a dog sitter.

Thanks for posting this. It's a good wakeup call for folks who think those sweet fluffy pups come trained. I'm not looking forward to this part but I have seen poorly trained Huskies and German Shepherds with no boundaries and they are almost always abused and hurt by people when they act out as adults. It's emotionally hard to train pups and raise kids, but you do it for their future - not to make yourself comfortable.

All puppies do this when first introduced to a crate. It isn't for play, it isn't for fun. It's for calming down and sleeping. You can introduce them over time in some cases but a lot of the time you just gotta stick em in and let them figure it out. We crate trained our Shiba and he sleeps in his crate most nights now. We leave the door open and he goes right in. It's his little den, he loves it.

Mokujin that’s why I like getting my puppies early morning so their first day with us we can leave the crate open and give them treats in it etc to help ease it a bit, our latest puppy we picked up around 7 pm at night and he was NOT happy with his kennel haha. Still freaks out like this at times and is six months. I’ve found toys like Kongs and long lasting puppy chews work great for kennel training.

Street fighter vs Xenoverse we have done consultations with several dog trainers who all recommend the crate should be small to the point of turning around and laying back down. Pups are taught by their mothers to not soil where they sleep. It’s a potty training tactic. Make it through two weeks or so and you should be good to go.

omg i think the highlight of the video was when he peed in the cage, i was in hysterics at that point. Also to all the people who say this is cruel, this method is very vital to a dog's life. If you happen to put your dog in a crate on a 6 hour drive in the car then you want the dog to be comfortable in the crate. My husky has been crate trained to sleep in the 6'4 kennel in the garage at night.

Just had the first crate night with my puppy- very much the same- the crate is fine for your husky for now- as long as they can stand, turn around and lay down- I know she will get used to it- the other two adult dogs sleep next to her in their beds which once she is settled and trained- she will have her bed- and to all the block heads who think this is cruel- letting her run around without a crate-' poop/ pee anywhere- chew electric cords- eat terrible things while everyone's sleeping?? Then that would be cruel- she is a baby- she is in our room- she needs to be trained- she also needs limits- our dogs are happy members of our family- to say killing her for meat would be less cruel is disgusting- funny how people with such opinions don't own dogs- have limited responsibilities- what have you done? Adopted a child? Fostered a child from a broken home?... Right- nothing- these are family dogs- raised with love- go help feral dogs if you want to see cruel- dogs that nobody bothered to train or care for- they are sick, infected and roaming- our pets are so loved and cared for-

I don't what all this negativity is about, my dog did the same thing when he was young. He'd be out during the day with me when I was home but had to be in his crate at night and if I went to work/school and so he would cry. He was basically throwing a tantrum, got over it, he's now six years old and loves his kennel, goes there when it storms and sleeps in it too.

People really need to realize that a crate is an essential for a young puppy. The whole point of a crate is to provide a safe haven "den" like area for the puppy. It also aids in house training and is highly recommended by veterinarians, dog trainers, and dog behaviorists. Obviously the people leaving negative comments are not educated in dog ownership and training, and did not do any reading before spreading nonsense.

My husky hated his crate at first too. Now he always wants in it. He'll howl until I open the crate door so he can run in. For those saying that this crate is too small, I kept my puppy in a crate about half as much taller and in twice the length when he was the same size and he did the exact same thing.

@khatbyte
@khatbyte 12 жыл бұрын
People, calm down. Crates are used to keep the dog safe when you can not supervise it. Crates make "dens" so that they feel safe and have their own little home inside your home. A crate is not small if the dog can turn around, stand up, and sit down comfortably. If your crate is too big then the puppy will urinate in it, and the reason why most people train their new pups to crates is because dogs never soil their "den". Think before you post.

She will get used to it, the important thing is to not cave. Don't let her out, she will adjust. Obviously your not going to leave her for more than 8 hours at a clip, she just needs a routine. Like walk, bathroom, crate, sleep. Throw some treats in there and be done with it. Hope this helps!

This cage is just fine. If you get a cage that is so big that he can lie down and there is still a whole foot of cage on the other side that the pup can walk to, that other part of the cage will become his potty zone. But with the smaller cage the puppy will hold in his pee b/c they do not like to relieve themselves where they sleep. Hence, the reason why extremely large cages are never used for crate training.

It's not cruel, this is actually part of crate training. You obviously don't have a Husky. If you did, you would know that crate training and strong leadership are ESSENTIAL to owning a Husky, otherwise they will destroy nearly everything in your house. They love to eat things that are expensive to fix, like doorjambs, cords, electrical equipment, bedspreads, collectible items...the list goes on. My Husky now goes in his crate on his own - it's like his little cave in our room, dark and cool.

My 2 husky pups did the same thing yours is doing. For weeks and weeks none stop crying. No matter what we did. The pups wouldn’t stop. So my wife and decided to buy a 48inx30inx33in crate. And they didn’t cry one bit. Seriously didn’t cry once. They were comfortable. They were moving around freely, they were enjoying their chew toy. But the most important thing was. We were all happy at night. They slept through the night in peace. Granted they would scratch the crate to go outside. But other then that. Peace and quiet. All it took was a larger crate. And obviously training.

Leaving him in the crate is not hurting him. Even when you make it positive, such as with treats and toys, some dogs just don't like it or take a lot longer to get used to it. I have a St Bernard puppy I am crate training and he reacted like this the first few nights. After a while they learn it's not a bad thing.

Crate training is positive if you do it right. It's not a cruel thing to do. Your puppy should be monitored at all times. If you leave your puppy roaming freely while you're gone, that's more dangerous for the curious mind. I hate ignorant people that know nothing about crate training and see it as a negative thing. You're giving your dog it's own space which it will grow to love.

Guys calm down this husky pup is fine, cage training is recommended and there should only be enough room for them to turn around so they don't have an accident, and this pup is going crazy because he might have never been in one before and huskies are hard-willed/stubborn so that's why it so long for him to calm down.

Well, think whatever you want, but my Husky is 18 months old and loves his crate. It's his own personal space. It's just big enough to stand up, turn around, and stretch out in. You have to spend time training him that it's HIS space to be comfy in. My dog is certainly not "crazy", nor does time in his crate make him anxious or upset. Secondly, the dog in the video isn't my dog - sounds like you're a bit confused about that.

I'm no expert but what the owner is doing is crate training him. This is to help to stop him from going to toilet inside of the house. It may seem cruel but as the owner has stated they get use it very quickly and the dog is simply over reacting. This method isn't used for the entire of the dogs life just until whenever they have been properly trained. The only issue I really have is that the owner should not be in the same room as the siberian husky as this is pretty much teasing him....
@EmiTheNinja
@EmiTheNinja 10 жыл бұрын
i have a siberian as well and maybe a better way to approach crate training in the future and prevent as many headaches and stress on the pup would be to keep the crate somewhere you are often with its door open occasionally putting treat or toys inside to let him/her explore it. usually after a few weeks the pup is more comfortable going inside and laying down on their own. after they become comfortable with that you can start closing the door for short periods of times and slowly increase the length of time spent, all the while praising the dog for good behavior with petting or small treats. using kong toys that are puzzle feeders are also very handy to use as it keeps them busy and they don't focus on being locking a cage as much and this equals less boredom for the dog. glad the dog is fine with the crate now but this is just future advice if you ever get another. as every breed and every dog is different i found this method to work best with our husky. best of luck.

Crate training is in no way cruel, although at this stage it may appear so. I have an 11 week old husky and he was identical to this at 8 weeks. He now willing goes into his crate at night to sleep. If he wakes up before me he sits there quietly until I am ready to let him out. When I leave him during the way (only for a couple hrs at a time) he whimpers for the first 5 minutes then goes to sleep. I should mention though that your husky probably should not have his collar on while in his crate.

Unless you can keep an eye on your 8 week old SIBERIAN HUSKY puppy 24/7, then yes maybe the crate is not needed. But in a practical situation this is not the case. You could also cordon off a section of the house for the dog but what about when guests are over? What if he starts chewing things you don't want him to chew? If you do it right crates are a GREAT solution to those answers and the benefits far outweigh the cons(if there even are any) in teaching your dog to be crate trained.

Actually, a crate was recommended by both my obedience trainer and my vet. It isn't suffering, it is the safest place for a new puppy to be. They are dogs so they don't understand. Any dog can be trained to love their crate. It is new and frightening and takes adjustment. My 2 month old did the same thing for the first couple of weeks I had him. Now he goes in it with no problem and little fuss.

When crate training it needs to be big enough for them to stand, turn around and lay down. Any bigger and they have much higher chance of using the bathroom in it

^ If they pee/poop so be it. Can u imagine being stuck in a crate like that? It's no wonder the dog is going crazy. That's too small.

my dog loves it. she treats it like a den. We only put her in it at night to sleep in and when we leave. But she's more than happy in her crate. Dogs feel more comfortable in tight spaces where they feel its like cave or den. its a natural instinct.

Victoria Samano the only reason the dog is going crazy is because it's not properly crate trained yet. If you do it right they go in WILLINGLY. They use it as a safe house and even lie in it when the door is open and everyone is home. If this is to small in your opinion, what kind of crate would you use if they're full grown size? The biggest ones only go to 127cm and those are for great danes. And also crates are used so they get potty trained quicker, because they see the crate as their den they will not pee or poop.

I have a 36" for when he gets bigger. The one in the video is a 30" I am borrowing for the meantime. If you are going to use a 36" to start, make sure you have the divider in or he will goto the bathroom in it because it will be too large. The 1st week was hell, I had to sleep on the floor next to the crate. However now he goes and lies down for the heck of it. Just purchase some ear plugs that 1st week or so! :-)

No crate is going to be enough space for a dog to just go walking around in to get its energy out... Crates are meant to keep the dog entirely in its "living space" as they are not dirty animals by nature and will not poop or pee where they sleep. A very large crate would likely result in puppy laying on one side and pooping and peeing at the other.

He reminds me of my dogs when I first got them (especially the shizu I have). We had her in a cage the first night and she was barking all night. Our goldens were like that too, though for Tucker, he took up residence in the laundry room and he quickly adjusted to the situation.

This is not cruel in the slightest and is in fact a good thing for all dogs to learn. Crate training is an essential part of potty training. Also, many huskies (not all, but many) cannot be trusted inside when the owner is gone and so proper crate training keeps the dog and the house safe. Not to mention it becomes the dog's safe place when they need a break.

The worst part about husky puppies is crate training they are very loud and are hyper 90% of the time. Takes them a long time to grow out of it also.

I just got a Husky puppy that I absolutely love. This is exactly crate time for us as well. I do not use it very much only if I must leave her alone at home because her chewing on anything is a bit frightening to me. I’ve done everything, put in toys, her favorite blanket, music, nothing works. She makes it sound like she is in a torture chamber! My neighbors are probably wondering what is going on...

Thank god my Siberian Husky puppy doesn't cry like this when I put her in her crate (only do on time out). Though she likes to poo and pee in it because the crate is a crate for an adult Husky >.<

why the hell are people talkin about "would u put ur child in a crate" obviously freakin not! this is a puppy/dog we are talkin about, not a human being. Crates are recommended by trainers and vets alike! How the heck is this crate too small for this puppy? its the perfect size for it! crates are only suppose to be big enough for the dog to lay in comfortably and able to turn and not pee/poop in it

I just got one 10 weeks old husky and I`m mad with the breeder because he has not crate trained the puppy. I was awake at two in the morning, he peepee and pooped inside the house, just like a newborn human. Now he is in his crate crying just like yours, but he will get used to it. I have him out to play outside for every 30 minutes and then back to his crate. Thanks for posting this video, I was looking for something just like it to make sure I was not doing any cruel thing to my baby.

Less than 2 weeks,you have to make it a place he can explore, you can't force him in there unless your leaving. I had him on a leash in the kitchen where he had free reign on the area where his crate was located. Within 2 weeks he was living in there. Hope this helps!

please please answer this question i'm desperate to know how long it took your puppy to get used to the crate. my husky pup we've had her now for 3 weeks and she still acts exactly like this in the crate. i feed her in there i ask her to go inside and she goes.. but as soon as i close the door after about 5 minutes if that she is doing this same thing. she has to stay in there at night or i'm sure she would be a danger to herself so i definitely want to keep going but this is craziness :/

We put a blanket of her mothers scent in the cage along with a few toys, also fed her in there and left treats, she was used to the cage after the first day. We dont leave her alone with the door closed just yet, we have the cage inside a puppy pen area. We sometimes close the crate door when we are in and it doesnt bother her and she is totally used to the cage now. Agree that for the first day you shouldnt of closed the door and left him in like that, but as long as he is ok now!

The "stress" that the dog is showing is fairly common for dogs that have just arrived at a new owners house and have not been house trained yet. It is called separation anxiety. This usually behavior halts after you stop giving the dog attention whenever he starts barking/making a ruckus and when you teach him that you going out of the house doesn't always mean you'll be gone for hours. Spread the word and watch kikopup's channel on crate training.

@NinyGirlForever the trouble with huskies is that they learn to open all kinds of doors very fast, thats why owners resort to the crate option...

Lol it's hilarious watching them throwing a tantrum when you first bring them home. I wish I could've filmed my baby jindo at 8 weeks. He went pyscho on the play pen. He falls right asleep now though at 5 months. Crate them when they're young to get them used to it. A lot of owners tell me crating isn't for their puppy and they give up too soon without realizing that every puppy goes through the same whining and crying process. It's a life saver and a great training tool

My dog sounded just like that. You have to let them do this as annoying as it is. Giving them ANY attention only rewards this. Now my puppy goes into the crate on her own and makes no noise at night. Make it a positive place.
