It is a widespread species that inhabits many of the temperate parts of the Northern Hemisphere. The northern goshawk is the only species in the genus Accipiter found in both Eurasia and North America. It may have the second widest distribution of any true member of the family Accipitridae,

There is a food source right there for the chicks to eat. Doesn't go for the larger and meater bird the parent brought, but the smaller and less meaty sibling

@@uraldamasis6887There is no thinking ahead. The aggressor can eat that chick anytime and it will. It's now concentrating on attack and dominance. If the little chick wasn't there, it would attack the others. You credit with thinking ahead which is something these chicks are not capable of. It's merely exploring the limits or lack of limits of its aggression. Notice no interference from parents even after cries for help. These chicks may be still too young to feed thamsrlves, that would be a cause for frustration. They may still lack the foot strength to hold prey and distance between foot and beak to tear bits off. .

That big chick is in a blood frenzy. Even the other larger sibling chicks are afraid. The big chick is possessed of violence though it looks like it's crop is still full from a prior feeding. That big chick will not stop until the little one is dead. Only then will it be satisfied.

I will be the one: 5:28 - Mom/Dad drops of food and the big chick starts to peck the others, especially the little one Around 9:00 - The big brother focuses entirely on his smallest sibling 19:55 - First blood Around 31:00 - The smallest chick loses strength and hardly defends itself anymore 39:10 - Big brother stands up and reveals the wounds. Tries relentless to eat his younger siblings face 42:40 - Smallest chick is visible still alive Around 46:00 - Big brother loses interest for a moment. Smallest chick still, but barely breathing 47:51 - Big brother starts to eat again, smallest chick falls over an tries to crawl away, even kicking Big Brother (probably accidentally, but hard to watch) 49:27 - Smallest chick still alive. Big Brother threatens one of the other chicks. Between 50:00 and 52:00 - Smallest chick finally seems to be dead 1:05:18 - Big brother looses interest 1:09:30 - One of the smaller brothers starts to eat the little sibling too 1:40:26 - Mom comes back and feeds the smallest chick to it's siblings

It's not about this meal, it's about future meals. The oldest was fed up with having to share food. And as brutal and horrifying as this is, it's nothing more than the family downsizing to adapt to the lesser food supply. Literally no different than the mother laying 1 fewer egg, as far as nature is concerned.

When possibly the father hawk brought in the fresh kill but did not stay to feed them with it, that was when the oldest biggest chick turned wild killer and immediately went to attack the smallest chick. Then it's rage did not stop until the littlest one went still. Then it quieted as it continued eating it's scalp.

Это от нехватки нормальной еды, которую не смогли добыть родители птенцов. По вине человека. Люди уничтожили пищевую базу этих птиц, в результате птенцы вынужденно занимаются каннибализмом, пытаясь выжить. Теперь находятся люди, которые, жуя бутерброд, ужасаются "жестокости" этих несчастных птиц

from what this seems it seems the larger chick might have mistaken the "food" item brought to be an actual live member of its nest perhaps, and decided to go for the smaller chick thinking that was the only food source available. It could also just be instinctual rivalry and whether or not it was hungry this was going to happen.

A literal perfect representation of too many people in our world. Ignoring the problems of our world because they *_can_* just keep ignoring them. Just keep running until it stops following you and gets something else instead. Then it's ok, because it's not you. Where do you draw the line with nature? Each second countless creatures get eaten in ways even crueler and more horrific than what was depicted here. What happened here is normal behavior that has allowed the species to survive.
