If u live in Palermo, u would know that u never leave bikes out at night, most here carry their bikes up the stairs to their apartments..very bad on the Guest house not letting them put the bikes inside the gates..name and shame, I live in Mondello and would like to know where this guset house is ??

I was shocked to see the bikes gone. Still wonder how some people have no conscience. But you guys took it unbelievably well! Not surprised your budget is running low though. Europe is expensive! Perhaps do South America in the next series to lower the expense!

I'm currently travelling Europe, including Italy, and I think the dream of doing on €1000 is well and truly over, except in Eastern Europe (and even then, only on a shoe string budget) Inflation means that what was €1000 five years ago really isn't any more; Covid has closed many tourism businesses which has led to a rise in prices due to a lack of supply; food and fuel are going up in price, in part due to the Ukraine crisis, and even if you don't hire a car, certain bus prices will cost more. I feel that trying to travel in Western Europe as a backpacker, you'd realistically need €2000 per month now, and even then certain activities could easily push you past that. Still admire you guys for trying to do it and being incredibly imaginative.

Thanks Darryn. Yeah, backpacking Europe is getting really expensive. You can do it still, but as you say- if you wanna experience and do stuff- you can easily spend 2000euros a month. Easily! We'll keep doing our best to do as much as possible on a budget. Even people with less money should be able to travel 🤘

I stayed in that exact place in Palermo just before the pandemic, thinking it would be hot I brought mainly summer clothes and it was like 2 degrees at night and those rooms aren't heated at all.

I'm so sorry your bikes got stolen! It's sad that people can't be trusted and will even target something as essential as transport. That said, I'm sure you'll still have a great time and I can't wait to see what you get up to next on this trip! RIP bikes :( But cant say that I am surprised that they got stolen it's so common in europe that I rather take a rental bike within the city since my back up bike got stolen last year. Anyone I know who park their bikes outside their house at night, had got them stolen. But on a brighter note: Whenever I hear "Palermo" I am stuck with the Calimero theme all day😆

As a Sicilian myself I feel extremely mortified and sad for the theft of your bikes. On behalf of the majority of people please accept this apology. I hope the remaining of the trip outweighed the inconvenience.

Pinches bike thieves! I remember that Masaya volcano in Nicaragua. Went up there as well and thought it would be a good idea to go around the "fence" only to lose grip and slide off by a few inches... lesson learned. So def looking forward to your Mount Etna hike.

I live in Mondello..u arrived when the beach was free, it usually costs €20 a day !! Sorry u'r bikes got stolen but unfortunatly that is Sicilia life..u can't even go to the beac alone, u always need 2 people, one swims one watches u'r belongings..rule of the land 😢😢😢
