I am one of those people who thought the 9.5 kWh rate is what I would pay for every kWh used. No one has ever explained this to me. I still feel slightly confused, but I have a much better overall understanding of it now. Question: Why should those two "base rates" be different from one company to the next? I had two stunning bills recently. One for $268, so I lowered my thermostat from 74 F to 59 F for the next month and STLL had the next bill come in at $221. I was appalled. I was uncomfortably cold day and night for that second month, and all I saved was $45. Turned out I actually paid more per kWh at 59 F than I did at 74 K. I still cannot wrap my head around it. One thing is certain, my bill with all electric is now almost 3X as my combined bills for gas and electric used to be, and I cannot afford an electric bill anywhere near these amounts. A friend told me one factor affecting my bill is that the cost to operate an electric furnace is much higher than the cost to operate a gas furnace. I do not see why that should be so, either.

You probably have a plan that has bill credits, the bills are higher when you don't hit it, the 45 bill probably means you used RIGHT AT the amount of the bill credit or slightly more. Gexa does a $125 bill credit at 1000 kWh for some plans, avoid bill credits.

Great info! I’m a current Ambit customer, but I have a question. On the facts sheet you showed for the Lone Star Classic plan it showed three rates. Are you charged a rate based on the usage at the end of the month, ( over 2000 kWh, so all usage is charged at the 2000 rate?) or do you pay a certain rate for your first 500, then another rate for for usage up to 1000 Kwh and then finally a third rate for usage 2000 and above? Should you look at your average usage over the year to do the math? I always use over 2k.
@JoinAmbitiousEnergy
@JoinAmbitiousEnergy 2 жыл бұрын
I can't say for sure without seeing your bill, but that's likely just showing what the average rate calculates out to be at those different usages since the average rate factors in both flat fees and per kwh fees.

@WolfByNight95
@WolfByNight95 3 жыл бұрын
I'm looking at them right now and its taken me a minute to figure this out. I'm a bit of a slow learner. I think I've got it though. So I'm looking at their Gexa saver supreme 12 and it lists pricing as Energy charge(base charge from power plant) 11.3500 cents per kWh or 0.1135 per kWh for calculation purposes because its change and a TDU delivery charge of 4.2308 per Kwh which would convert to 0.0423 because its change. So then add everything up: .1135 + 0.0423 = 0.1558 or 15 cents per kWh. So then you'd multiply that times your usage, I just used my last months usage reading. So I got 0.1558 x 1,903.00 = 296.48. Then add in all the base fees you pay per month which for this one is a base charge of $4.39 so I'd have a monthly bill of 300.87. All that and it turns out my current plan is still cheaper. Lol Of course this is assuming I've done my math correct..

@@sbean2987 a contractor ending is 1 thing, but for them to triple the rate is straight up thievery. The whole shop around for electric is a scam. There should be a law against their predatory practices of luring people in with a great price & then triple the price with no warning. The first bill I got after my contract expired was over $1000 for my tiny house with led lights, oil heat, no ac. Robbery! 2 years later & I almost forgot how dirty they are. Thanks for reminding me. Careful shopping around for better rates because the money you saved all year on a good rate, they get that all back when they do their slime ball maneuver on the first bill you get. The price is pulled right from their butholes. The owner of the company is a slimeball lawyer who buys & sells electricity. They don’t produce or generate their own electricity. They basically scam unsuspecting people out of their hard earned money. American families who struggle in this economy & click energy gets rich off of them.
