Hey kids! Its Uncle Ben Eller here with Weekend Wankshop 261: Sick SICK Sixes!
In this video, i'm going to show you all my 3 favorite easy to shred scale sequences that are all centered around the number 6! These patterns are very much inspired by shred masters like Paul Gilbert, and can be applied to ANY 3 note per string scale shape.Practice these licks for a couple weeks and i guarantee you'll be getting speeding tickets from the fuzz in no time!
In this lesson i will be showing you all Straight 6's, Alt 6's, and Split 6's being used ascending through an A Lydian scale. Along the way, you'll also get tips about hand synchronization, downward and upward pickslanting (ala Troy Grady's Cracking the Code series), phrasing, and using these sequences creatively in your soloing by mixing up your timing and the shapes themselves. If you're looking for great alternate picking exercises that you can use in a musical context, you've come to the right place!
Playing my Ibanez RG550 in my Fallout finish, which is loaded with the amazing Fishman Fluence Open Core pickup set, into my Fractal Audio AXE FX III.
What do you want to see next on the channel? Let me know in the comments!

I don't understand why KZfaqrs make videos that take minutes before they get to the point. I post the times too. They haven't figured out that people are not interested in the talking and don't want to waste their time waiting for the content.

@@kostikyoda1078 I think he's a good player and like his content but that has nothing to do with the filler in the videos that KZfaqrs make. As far as having exposure to content that's not an issue for me, I study under a studio musician who teaches me shred, gypsy, fusion, jazz, bluegrass, country, theory, technique, and other stuff not in music books. I have no problems when it comes to learning real guitar. These licks were "in" in 1989, that's when I learned this type of shred...

FYI for those who may not know... a lydian scale has a raised 4th and is the same notes as the major scale of the 5th... so if you play an A lydian scale it's really the same as an E major scale. This is the same in any key, and if it's easier for you to play a minor scale it's the 3rd's minor scale... in this case a C# minor scale. Happy Pickin' edit... ps, no dis to you Ben with me sharing this and I do thank you for the vid.

Someone commented, thank you for giving me the desire to practice more and I say, thank you for giving me the desire to ask my son in law for my guitar back so I CAN practice more! That may sound a bit callous but my father left me his Les Paul Gibson, (not sure of year, somewhere between 58 and 63 and looks exactly like that cherry red one Angus Young likes to play). I never learned how to play guitar but always wanted too, just never figured I’d get the chance so I gave it to my son in law who has never once played in in 3 years; it just hangs on his wall for decoration. I started to take piano lessons when I was 17 but I play by ear; never could read music and the teacher insisted I read the music only which looked like Greek to me. I used to sing though so I learned a little bit. However, your teaching is fabulous and really makes sense to me. It is explained well and demonstrated well. I can see, and hear what your doing and am pretty good at playing what I hear and see, at least on a piano. Hopefully I can translate that to guitar. I’ve only seen two of your videos and I love them! Gotta find some way of getting that guitar back! Thank you!!!

I am a mutant. I forced work on my pinky at a very early point and now I have an insane pinky and do all kinds of weird wide runs. But I have other problems. No matter what you work on, you'll neglect something else. The fun is in the phrasing. But this is what someone meant who I heard recently saying that Marty Friedman's playing is based on patterns of 6 notes. I was envisioning 6 notes on 2 strings - makes no sense. This is brilliant though - I shall have to work on this.

A friend of mine does a pattern he calls "backpedaling" similar to what you showed at the end of the video, but he also plays the notes descending. He ascends three strings (EAD) then reverses and descends (DA) then ascends three strings (ADG) then reverses two strings and so on. Once you get to the top you reverse the whole pattern and play it descending three strings then ascending two. It makes for an enormous lick that lasts forever
