@@capt_uncoolguy3285 Health is just based on age alone. You can't be 25 with poor health at any difficulty, the earliest you can be at poor health is 30. Thrust spamming is rng, without the fencing items, Montalban will most likely parry almost every thrust at this difficulty. You may eventually win, but it's a grind, or you may get lucky that the AI fails the parry. Better to just swordfight properly and you can see it only takes like 10-20 seconds to win anyway.

I'd love to say I was one of the ones who played it on the 1987 Commodore 64 version but that would be a lie. My first exposure was Pirates! Gold on the Genesis released in 1993. In fact I'm 50+ and I'm finally making a real trip to Campeche. And Campeche has pirate statues EVERYWHERE. More interesting is the ruin of Edzna which is one of the few Mayan cities that experienced eclipses. They were likely observed using "mirrors" made of obsidian from the Aztecs of Teotihuacan. It's not as exciting as it was 20 years ago as there is LITERALLY a train to many of these ruins.

The lost sister map showed part of the city of Campeche, which is in the same location every game. The stronghold map showed part of the pirate haven of Ville D'Ouragan, which does change locations every game, but most of the pirate havens end up spawning in the area I searched.

@@fluereM Tool Assisted Speedruning, where a programmer manually enters every input of a run frame by frame to hopefully show off the "Optimal to all but a few pixels of movement" Speedrun. Which most Speedrunners will watch the T.A.S. so they can get an idea of how to optimize their game play to "as humanly replaceable as possible"

When you have an overwhelmingly good battle, the units only take 1 move instead of 2. Not sure what the requirements are, it's not just because they're officers (though officers have an easy time of doing it because of very high offense).

@@LackeysLack usually when the enemy morale is low like you beat them quickly but the moment it takes more than a fiew seconds to beat the enemy then it takes the whole 2 turns

@@zelassin If you notice, he reloads there 4 times constantly and each time he rescues a different member of the family.

Why do you think so? The quest icon always remains the same - it's his sister. You don't have to rescue all of the family to complete the game, he just wants a good RNG result so he keeps reloading. It's the same thing as when he was spawning Raymondo

@@zelassin because he got 4 fame at the end of that. You get 1 fame per family member unlocked.

You can see when he reloads the fame count drops to 1 again, he gains 3 every time he saves the sister. It was already on 4 after the first time he saved her

Sure! The basic strategy that I have been using for any% is as follows; - Choose adventurer difficulty, skill at navigation, 1640 start, then choose the Spanish captain. - Adventurer is the lowest accepted difficulty, and will save you time with easier swordfights. - Skill at navigation makes sailing faster and easier, which is what most of your time in any% will be spent doing. - 1640 with the Spanish start gives you the mail runner as a starting ship. This is one of the fastest ships in the game, and has more crew capacity than the pinnace. - Sail into the Spanish city and recruit crew from the tavern, then leave - Sail to the nearest Jesuit mission. These will spawn randomly around the Caribbean but they are fairly common. Quicksave (shift + S) right before sailing into it. - Talk to the abbot. He will tell you the starting location of Baron Raymondo. If it is not very close by, leave and quickload (shift + L) - Sail to and battle Raymondo, saving right before you attack him. Don't bother using cannons on his ship, just sail into it as fast as possible. - Beat Raymondo in a swordfight, he will give you a map piece. If you cannot figure out where the location of your sister is from this single map piece, load and re-do the fight. If you can, keep his ship and its cargo and go to your sister. - Rescue your sister, saving right before you reach the cabin. She will tell you the starting location of Marquis Montalban. If he is not very close by, load and re-do the encounter. - Repeat the same process that you used for encountering and battling Montalban. If you cannot find his hideout with the given map piece, re-do the fight. - Now, you want to get between 150-250 crew before going to Montalban's hideout. The issue is that Spain will hate you now and won't let you enter. French, English, and Dutch cities are typically too far away to visit, so your best bet is pirate havens. You can also try to get some crew between the Raymondo and Montalban fights. - Go to Montalban's hideout and defeat his Indian army. usually it is faster to kill off all the units, but it may be faster to rush the gate, depending on the map layout. - Finally, battle Montalban for the last time. - Defeat him, watch the cutscene, and you're done! My runs, as well as Ganelon's, follow this path for the most part. Another thing to look for during the run is cotton sails and copper plating for the mail runner, which helps but isn't necessary. Unfortunately, A LOT of RNG is involved in this run, so don't get discouraged if it takes a minute or two to get the right Raymondo, sister, Montalban, and hideout spawns. Slower ships in your fleet will slow down your flagship if it gets too far away from them.

@@MrHawtNSmexy Do more ships of the same type slow you down at all? I'm trying out war canoe strat, but is there any downside to just getting a fleet of many war canoes as long as you can keep the crew happy? The fleet feels slower than a single canoe but it could just be in my head.

just downloaded for some nostalgia and had the worst time with that fight on that difficulty, plus the time to win the battle

He did a lot of quick save/loading to get the results he wanted at the mission for Raymondo and sister for Montalbon's hideout.

Hence the title, any% speedrun. There's a 126 fame speed run video here as well.

On the lower difficulties there are tutorial popups which slow the run down, and you are forced to use the longsword in swordfights.
