I feel like British viewers wanted to project everything they hated about their boss on a single character, while American viewers wanted to see the boss they kinda wish they had, that's why they had to change Michael's character so much.

@@s.e.e455 Tim is basically Jim’s sad and depressed British cousin. He’s a 30 year old university drop out, who still lives with his parents, doesn’t have any friends, is jealous of Gareth (Dwight) because he has a much bigger social life than Tim does, has ambitions for a better future but isn’t motivated to peruse his dreams, and gets humiliated in front of his crush Dawn (Pam) and the rest of the office when Chris Finch (Todd Packer) and Lee (Roy Anderson) pin him to the ground, snatches his shoes and threw them over the office building, which leaves Tim having to walk home in his socks. Basically the complete opposite personality of Jim

**Things I noticed that makes me like the US Office better than the UK version** -US actors look direcly into the camera, while UK looks at someone off camera - US Dwight talks more monotone and acts crazy, UK one seems more like an average guy who is serious but normal. - When Michael makes the joke about firing pam, he has a smile on his face which quickly fades after Pam cries - The UK version doesn't focus on the boss' face as much, and when it does, he doesn't seem to feel as bad as Michael - Basically the US version is more expressive/over the top and you can see their expressions and reactions more and camera placement helps.

Weird that in the UK version, Gareth (UK Dwight) looks younger or more less the same age as Tim (UK Jim). It's the complete opposite in the US version where there is a clear age difference with Dwight and Jim; where Dwight is older and has more sales experience. Kinda makes sense in UK version where they're close in age which makes the enmity make more sense.

I might be a little biased, but the US Office feels a little bit more like a real mockumentary due to the handheld sweeping movements instead of just cuts and the actors in the US put more energy and life into the characters. Honestly I think most people say the opposite of that. The UK one kept it to a strict mockumentary style. The US one ends up just being more like a sitcom and the camera crew is hardly even noticeable most of the time, similar to parks and rec, it's supposed to be a mockumentary at the beginning but that part quickly fades and it's a sitcom remaining. Not saying that's bad thing, both shows are amazing.

@OVNI-Present
@OVNI-Present 3 ай бұрын
@@chrisjansen9912The reason the US Office looks like a "sitcom," specifically after Season 1 and onwards, is primarily because of the color grading that was introduced after Season 1. Season 1 of the US The Office had that gloomy Raw/Camera Log Profile footage that the UK has, which made it look more authentic to an actual documentary. However, after Season 1, they changed it up, started color grading the footage, making it more colorful and got rid of that "office lighting" and atmosphere, making it appear more like a "show" than a documentary. And that was not all; they knew that to continue for many more seasons, they had to also change the writing, make story arcs, and character developments. In the process of doing so for the sake of longevity, they made it more like a show and not so much a mockumentary anymore. That was intentional though.

The most real thing about the UK version is the relationship between Dawn and Tim. Pam turning Jim down doesn't make as much sense as Dawn turning Tim down... Jim is cool, confident, put together, good looking, witty, at ease with himself, a lot going on outside work etc. Pam turning him down out of fear only makes sense if she has low self esteem, which we know she doesn't. Why else would she be scared to take a chance? Why would she see someone like him as a risk compared with someone who's failed to commit to her for years and treats her so poorly? If they were going to change Jim to that degree they should also have changed Roy to make the appeal of the safety he represents more obvious. Dawn turns Tim down because despite them being made for each other, the way he leads his life makes it hard for her to make that leap. That's what makes it so painful to watch. The gift turns things around for him because it shows how well he knows her, sees her, loves her and believes in her in this totally selfless way and I think she suddenly twigs that by being together they can raise each other up and that's what love's all about. It's so real

As much as I love the U.S version, I definitely feel like the writers took things in the wrong direction. I feel like the idea of "The Office" is genius. It's a tragedy disguised as a comedy. It shows people stuck working at a job they hate in a dying industry, and their struggles to find meaning and fulfilment in it. The US version definitely lost the underlining tragedy to all of it by romanticizing things and giving all the characters happy endings. I feel like it completely lost the point by the end of its run.

I think you’re missing a big detail, British office was 2 seasons long, American office was 9. It’s impossible for a show with this storyline to go on for 9 years without the comedy, without the happy moments, otherwise it would be torture. You can see Michael transition from a horrible boss, to a charismatic boss.

They are basically two different series after the first season of US version. Both are funny, but for me it's hard to compare those two because they are so different. British one is way more cringy and depressing but at the same time it's genius how it makes you laugh. US version is funny but mainly entertaining, it's like a fantasy. I love both.

Yeah, and if things took off pretty well then they would adapt the show to the American Market and let it progress. And it did, for many more seasons than the UK did. Sadly Ricky Gervais did make a movie a few years ago based about the return of David Brent and when I saw the trailer, it didn't look as good as anticipated.. Then, when it did come out.. It was utterly dreadful, barely anyone liked it. Worth a waste of his time and money all for nothing.

I am Irish, but we have much more close sense of humour to that of the UK than the US. I am very biased, but I find the UK office a lot more funny because I really dislike slapstick comedy. I also find it more relatable, but I guess the US office isn’t aiming for relatability so I get that. As I said, I’m biased as fuck so don’t hate me! Both are good in their own ways, we all have preferences.

i think it honestly just comes down to differences in culture because when i tried watching the uk version, i couldn’t relate to any of the characters! but i did in the us one. so i doubt it’s really a preference of quality for most people, just people relate to one culture more.

The Original British Office seems to have better delivery of lines. It has a more relaxed and bored tone with slower pacing which is a lot more realistic to an actual office. David Brent also seems much more annoying and dreadful than Michael Scott, which is much more fitting to his lines and the atmosphere of the office.

They became so different because of their reasons for being made and the differences between US and UK humour. The reason the UK one is how it is comes from mocking UK TV docusoaps at the time that the US didnt really have. Thats why it could be transferred and adapted for the US audience because it felt completely new there. Anyone who's interested on how and why the UK office came about then these links show it from Ricky and Steve kzfaq.info/get/bejne/obt6qtp9qM_VeYk.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/brSqncpq0b6rl5s.html Parts 1 and 2
